Chapter 66 Entering the Mountains

Before dawn, Li Xiao naturally woke up; it had become a habit.

After a quick wash and a simple breakfast, Li Xiao left the space.

It was still pitch black outside, but a faint glimmer of light began to appear in the east.

Li Xiao looked around, and only the north side was dark.

In the north, a vast expanse of black shadows stood there. Li Xiao stared at it for a while and saw that it was a range of rolling mountains.

Li Xiao gazed at the mountain range, the map gradually revealing its topography.

A winding road leads into the mountains, passing between two peaks.

Inside was a wide, flat area with buildings on three sides, but nothing on the side facing the exit.

Looking at the map, Li Xiao stopped in her tracks.

This is?

What's inside? Is it the one I'm thinking of?

Li Xiao was extremely surprised. What incredible luck! To actually run into this!

Li Xiao, who was about to go to the factory, suddenly changed direction and headed directly towards the road.

That's the main road we came in on. Continue for another ten kilometers or so, then take the smaller road that branches off at the fork.

Li Xiao took out the car he had previously owned, climbed into it, and started the engine.

It only took half an hour to reach the fork in the road; just follow the path in front of you and you'll find the place.

Li Xiao was very excited just thinking about it.

The road was peaceful; not a single zombie could be seen.

The road to get here was teeming with zombies, and the car was wrecked the whole way. There wasn't a single clean spot on the car.

But the road was quiet and there was nothing there, which made Li Xiao feel a little uneasy.

She sped along, and the dark mountains in the distance drew closer and closer until they were right in front of her.

Looking at the two towering mountains in front of me, they are lush and verdant under the sunlight, with abundant trees.

The entrance, which was right in front of us, was blocked by some thick branches and vines, making it impossible to see the road surface.

Li Xiao gripped the dog's leg and carefully got out of the car.

A verdant expanse of green layers upon layers, revealing the occasional brown branches extending from below.

Those tree branches were as thick as her thigh.

Those things, as thick as her arm, were either vines or branches; their original shape was no longer recognizable.

Li Xiao packed up her bike, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and tried to cut the nearest tree branch.

With a "thud," the branch trembled. It was very sturdy and difficult to cut.

Is it just an ordinary tree branch?

Li Xiao became wary, constantly watching his surroundings as he chopped.

While Li Xiao was busy cutting down trees, Cheng Shaolin also rushed to the town she had entered earlier.

Cheng Shaolin followed the trail of the car that hit the zombies, and he was still grateful that Li Xiao had left him a clue. If he had to search slowly on his own, it would have taken forever.

The search ended here, which puzzled Cheng Shaolin.

Why aren't there any zombies in this place? How come there aren't any?

Cheng Shaolin looked around; there seemed to be some movement ahead.

He followed the sound and saw that the area was surrounded by zombies, three layers deep.

Cheng Shaolin was taken aback, thinking something had happened to Li Xiao. Just as he was about to rush in, a hoarse rooster crow interrupted him.

Cheng Shaolin almost stumbled and fell. There were chickens here?

What's going on?

A live chicken?

Cheng Shaolin was full of questions; at least it wasn't Xiaoxiao.

The rooster crowed, and the zombies surrounding them stirred.

Following the sound, Cheng Shaolin finally saw a rooster on the roof of the house with a large red comb, reddish-brown feathers, and glossy claws.

It was daylight, the perfect time for crowing, but the sound was a little off.

The rooster stood on the roof, pacing back and forth, looking very agitated.

It craned its neck, ready to crow, "Cluck—cough—cluck—cluck, snap..."

……!

What is this?

Cheng Shaolin paused for a second to think, and the chicken seemed to be startled by him, freezing in place.

Hearing the rooster crow, the zombies surrounding below became very excited and roared along.

The zombie's roar startled the stunned rooster, which then took flight.

"Cluck-cluck—tap—cough—cluck-cluck—cough cough—tap-tap," it almost lost its footing and fell off the roof. Then it frantically flapped its wings and tried to climb back onto the roof.

After a period of chaos, they managed to hold their ground.

Cheng Shaolin below was also sweating bullets for it.

With all this commotion, no wonder we can't see any zombies; they're all here.

Cheng Shaolin didn't bother looking any further. Since Xiaoxiao wasn't there, he would search elsewhere.

Li Xiao spent a long time cutting down trees, but apart from one mutated vine, the trees themselves did not mutate.

Only after the branches at the top were cut off could the area that was being covered be exposed.

A mutated vine tried to reach out and entangle her, but she knew it beforehand.

He swung his knife and looked over, slicing the outstretched vine in half with a "crack".

Keep reaching out, keep cutting it off for you.

Fortunately, the vine wasn't very thick, so it wasn't too difficult to cut it; otherwise, it would have been a real problem.

It took half an hour of hacking and slashing to clear away the vine; the rest will be quick.

Waving his dog legs with a "whoosh," Li Xiao's face was soon covered in sweat.

Although the trees can block the sun, it's still stuffy and hot.

Li Xiao rubbed her face with her arm, wiping away most of the sweat on both sides.

Seeing that there were only a few meters left to cross, Li Xiao felt a surge of strength welling up inside her.

Keep pushing, we'll be out soon.

Li Xiao exhaled and chopped at the tree branches in one go, then casually put them into her spatial storage. She would have to walk this way again later, so she didn't want them to block her path.
