Chapter 232 Preparing for the Night

Yan Bin's arrival relieved Xiang Yuping's anxiety. He was poisoned and unable to make arrangements, so he waited for Yan Bin to come and take care of the rest.

Seeing Yan Bin approaching, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Yan Bin came with several teams of supernatural beings, and now he can take over from Yu Yanbin and his team.

Soon, Yan Bin arranged for his superhumans to begin patrolling inside and outside the area to guard against a zombie siege.

Yan Bin never expected that the Second Superpower Squad would almost be wiped out, and he was still wondering to himself why no one had come over for so long.

If it weren't for the messenger coming to look for us, we wouldn't have known that such a big thing had happened here.

Fortunately, the casualties were not significant. We really have to thank Yu Yanbin and his team for helping to eliminate the mutated plants; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Seeing that the first brigade had arrived, Yu Yanbin immediately relinquished his heavy duties and stepped down.

Why not just relax and have nothing to do? Why get involved in all that fuss?

The nine of them gathered together and relaxed.

"Aren't you going back today?" Shao Jie asked.

"Yeah, it's not safe on the road at this time of year. Can't you see? The rain outside is getting heavier and heavier."

Shao Jie glanced outside and nodded in agreement.

A sudden downpour disrupted my planned itinerary. Now it's impossible to go back; I'll just have to spend the night here.

Yan Bin was still talking to Xiang Yuping over there, but they were a bit far apart, so it was impossible to hear what they were saying.

Li Xiao took out her phone and checked it. The phone was no longer usable, but it could still be used as a clock.

It was already 5:23 PM, but it looked like night outside; it was incredibly gloomy.

The roars of zombies could be heard intermittently; in this kind of weather, spending the night outside was definitely not a good idea.

But there was no other way; going back in such strong winds and heavy rain would be even more unsafe.

Visibility is poor, and being surrounded by zombies would be far more dangerous than staying here.

Not to mention, there are so many wounded who have no fighting ability whatsoever.

Li Xiao didn't think too much about it. Since she had already decided to rest here, she might as well relax.

At most, a few more people will patrol back and forth at night.

She took out the food she had prepared from her storage space: steamed buns, pickled vegetables, and nine bottles of water.

Of course, the steamed buns weren't the usual plain white ones; these were specially prepared later, in case we encountered situations like today, with mixed grain steamed buns and homemade pickled vegetables that we'd put in cans.

It's perfect to bring these out now.

Divide them into two portions for each person, and let them eat first. If they're still hungry, they can take more.

You can't be too extravagant in front of so many people.

"..." Shao Jie held the steamed bun and stared at Li Xiao.

...Li Xiao was puzzled. "What's wrong?"

"...warm..."

"Shut up!" "Eat your food!" Cheng Shaolin and Yu Yanbin immediately stopped them in low, stern voices.

Shao Jie shrank his neck, quickly lowered his head, and shut his mouth while biting into his steamed bun.

Cheng Shaolin glanced sharply at the group and said, "Hurry up and finish eating."

...Li Xiao held the still-warm steamed bun in her hand, chewing it bit by bit, glancing at Cheng Shaolin every now and then.

Cheng Shaolin knew that Li Xiao was watching him. After warning the others, he looked at Li Xiao.

Li Xiao looked a little dazed, her eyes filled with timidity. It was rare for Cheng Shaolin to see her lack confidence.

"Eat up, it's alright." Cheng Shaolin's tone was completely different from when he spoke to Li Xiao. He looked at Li Xiao with gentle eyes, as if he would take responsibility for anything.

"Hmm." She wanted to say something, opened her mouth, but then didn't know what to say, so she closed her mouth again.

Cheng Shaolin didn't ask any further questions. There must be a reason why she couldn't tell him, so why force her?

He took a bite of the steamed bun and said nonchalantly, "It's okay, let's eat first."

Li Xiao didn't say anything more. She listened to him and decided to fill her stomach first.

They were speaking in riddles, while the others kept their eyes closed and focused on eating their dinner. They didn't care about anything else; they might even make things worse. It was better for them to stay put.

Nobody's a fool; the right approach is to see through things but not say anything.

They were all quietly eating steamed buns with pickled vegetables, creating a rather cozy atmosphere.

They're enjoying their meal here, but those watching from the sidelines aren't having such a pleasant time.

Li Xiaoyu and Yan Bin were engrossed in their meal, paying no attention to anyone else. But that didn't mean others weren't paying attention to them.

Sure enough, seeing how intently they were eating, those watching couldn't help but swallow their saliva.

My throat bobbed up and down, and my mouth got drier and drier.

I ate multigrain steamed buns for lunch, and they've long since digested. How could I resist seeing someone eating?

Yan Bin also noticed his team's predicament, and when he turned around, he saw Yu Yanbin's team eating.

I didn't get back to base in time today, and we didn't have enough supplies, so I might go hungry tonight.

Seeing Yan Bin's slightly furrowed brows, Xiang Yuping glanced over there before saying, "Captain Yan, I suspect that team has spatial ability users."

Yan Bin: "...What? Are you sure?"

"Yeah, that's what I thought when they took out the gas masks. Who would carry something like that on a mission for no reason, especially without any definite information? And so many of them."

Yan Bin glanced around and realized that it wasn't just one or two people who had been poisoned; there were dozens of them.

It's understandable that people would think that way.

“They have food. We can go ask them, and we can chip in and get through tonight.”

Yan Bin agreed with the idea, "Hmm, we can give it a try. We'll compensate them when we get back to the base."
