When Zhen Jia saw Zhen Zhen after school, she was really happy.
The fourteen-year-old boy didn't expect that his sister would come to pick him up after school. The other students were teasing Zhen Jia, but Zhen Jia turned her face away and ignored her good friend and went straight to Zhen Zhen.
"Sister, why are you back today?"
"I missed you. Let's go back quickly. My aunt is stewing chicken!"
Zhen Jia exclaimed, "As expected, you have to go home. Otherwise, she wouldn't do all this. She said she would feel bad if you couldn't eat the delicious food."
"Don't worry, I'll tell her when we get back. You're still growing and need to eat well. Besides, I'm working and earning money now, so eating chicken twice a month is easy!"
Zhen Jia is already half a head taller than Zhen Zhen, and is already close to 170cm tall. Zhen Zhen subconsciously feels that boys shouldn't grow too early, otherwise they won't grow any longer. Tall boys usually start growing slowly in high school.
But she then questioned this idea. Why would she have such an idea? It's so strange.
Zhen Zhen shook her hair twice unnaturally. Zhen Jia saw her strange movements and asked, "Sister, what's wrong? Do you have a headache?"
"No, it's okay. Just walk faster. Your lunch break is only an hour and a half."
"I was walking too fast and I was afraid you couldn't keep up, silly!"
"Hey, you little brat, you dare to call your sister stupid! I'll hit you with a left hook and a right hook."
Zhen Zhen ran in the direction Zhen Jia escaped, but didn't realize that he had said some strange words again.
When the two arrived home, Zhang Qiuhong had already stewed the chicken and was trimming the potatoes to put in the pot later.
When the two children came back, they bought a few bottles of soda and half a watermelon at the intersection. Zhen Zhen knew that her uncle and aunt were always saving money and reluctant to buy things, and they wanted to take away anything good for her.
When she was little, she woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and heard her aunt and uncle say they would love her as their own daughter. Zhen Jia wasn't even born at the time, so she made up her mind to be filial to her uncle and aunt, and to give her all to her future siblings.
Zhen Zhen only kept some pocket money from her salary and gave the rest to Zhang Qiuhong to manage.
She had expected her aunt to spend some, but Zhang Qiuhong remained as frugal as ever. But every time she received money from her, she would be delighted and carefully place it in a cookie box in the closet. Zhen Zhen knew it was her dowry and her younger brother's tuition.
Zhen Guoqiang also got off work and went home quickly. Today happened to be his night shift, so he didn't have to go to work in the afternoon or evening.
He was also very happy to see Zhen Zhen, and pulled her aside to ask her all sorts of questions. Zhen Zhen lamented that he had only been away for two weeks, and wondered what his uncle's expression would be if he had gone to Beijing for several months or half a year.
"Uncle, my boss asked me to go on a business trip to Beijing for a while. I may not be back for several months. I came back to see you today, and I'll take the train tomorrow!"
Zhen Guoqiang was setting the table and preparing to serve the food. "This is a good thing! Young people should go out more often! Don't worry about home! But we have to be more careful over there. We are outsiders and we are unfamiliar with the place, so we should keep a low profile and not cause trouble."
Zhen Zhen nodded, "Don't worry, uncle. I won't offend anyone unless they offend me. Besides, I went there to accompany Juzi. You know Juzi, her in-laws are from Beijing. There's no problem for me to be with her."
Zhen Guoqiang had heard Zhen Zhen mention Ling Ju several times, "Okay, that girl seems quite reliable, so I'll feel more at ease!"
Zhang Qiuhong brought out the stir-fried shredded Chinese cabbage. "Zhen Jia, go get the rice, Zhen Zhen, get the chopsticks. Get ready to eat!"
"Okay!"
Zhen Zhen had a very warm meal, chatting with Zhen Jia. They finished the whole chicken and even the cold dish of shredded Chinese cabbage. When Zhen Zhen wanted to wash the dishes after dinner, Zhen Jia stopped her and said, "Sister, don't move. It's my job to clean up the dishes now. Don't fight with me."
"What's going on? How did it become a job?"
Zhang Qiuhong chuckled, "Pocket money, two yuan a month for cleaning. If you behave well, you can get an extra yuan."
Zhen Zhen admired her aunt, "Wow, Aunt, your idea is great. It not only cultivates Jia Jia's enthusiasm for doing housework, but also helps him earn some pocket money."
Zhen Guoqiang looked at Zhen Jia who was washing dishes and whispered, "Your aunt learned this from a short story in the newspaper. Now Jia Jia occasionally helps with the laundry and sweeping when she's free. Your aunt and I are so happy."
"I didn't expect this kid to change so much in just two weeks."
Zhang Qiuhong was a little proud. "I can only say that money talks. After all, it's only three yuan, and I can buy a lot of snacks."
Zhen Zhen agreed.
Zhen Zhen looked at the time and thought it was time for her uncle to go to bed and rest.
"Uncle and aunt, it's time for me to go back to the factory. I'll call you when I get to Beijing. Also, don't be too frugal. Eat well. There are four of us in our family, and three of us have salaries. It's easy to support Jiajia! Saving money won't produce children, so we need to spend it appropriately."
Zhen Guoqiang nodded. "I know. Jiajia has a lot of eggs and milk now, and your aunt often makes him fine grains. But boys shouldn't be spoiled too much. It's good to endure a little hardship. Too much pampering will make them useless. Life is much better now than when you were a child. When you were a child, our family couldn't even eat fine grains, let alone a lot of meat and eggs. Drinking milk was good. Otherwise, your health wouldn't have been so bad when you were a child."
When Zhen Zhen heard Zhen Guoqiang talking about her childhood again, she quickly interrupted, "Alright, uncle, it was so long ago, don't mention it. Isn't life much better now? Remember to cherish the present. When I come back from Beijing, I'll bring you some local specialties. Then I'll be leaving!"
