The eldest sister-in-law supported Yan Jinqi and looked around, "Come in quickly! Let's talk inside!"
Yan Jinqi was helped into the house by the cleaner, and then the village chief, Old Wu, came over. "Why is there so much blood on his body? Mom, go get some hot water and find some clean clothes. I'm going to find a doctor!"
Village chief Wu rushed out of the house and closed the gate tightly when he left.
Yan Jinqi was completely exhausted, half leaning on the kang, his hair soaked with cold sweat, his face was extremely pale and his lips were bloodless.
Mrs. Wu got some hot water and a towel, and found some clothes for Yan Jinqi and
"Sister, come here, lie down for a while and wait for the doctor to come."
Yan Jinqi nodded gently, his voice very weak, "Sister-in-law, thank you!"
Mrs. Wu was very enthusiastic. "Don't say that. When something happens, the people have to bear the burden together. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about what happened to you here. Everyone will keep their mouths shut."
Yan Jinqi was very moved, but she was so tired that she couldn't speak. She felt pain in her lower body and had even lost the strength to moan.
Village chief Wu quickly came back with a doctor, a man in his fifties.
When he entered the room and saw Yan Jinqi's expression, his brows were furrowed.
He took Yan Jinqi's pulse briefly and looked at the blood on her body, then pulled the village chief and Mrs. Wu out of the house.
He stuttered a bit, trying to lower his voice, "Village chief, this, this female soldier, had a miscarriage!"
"What!" the village chief exclaimed and was slapped on the hand by Mrs. Wu.
"Keep your voice down! Doctor Zhang, how could she have a miscarriage? This female soldier used to be in the village. I asked her and she's not married!"
"Do you think it was possible that he was... by a spy..."
The three of them looked at each other and sighed.
"Doctor Zhang, what should we do now?"
Doctor Zhang pulled out his medicine box and said, "It looks like she's pregnant very young. I'll prescribe some medicine for her and wait until the discharge is clear. She's very weak, and it's not feasible for her to stay here for long. We need to find a way to send her back to the army. Let the army send someone to catch the spy!"
"Should we tell her about the miscarriage?"
Mrs. Wu rejected it outright, "Stop talking. What if he really is...will he still have this reputation? Let's just pretend we don't know. Keep our mouths shut and don't say anything!"
"Okay! Let's save them first, and then try to contact the police and think of a solution!"
The three of them discussed it, Doctor Zhang prescribed some medicine, and Mrs. Wu changed Yan Jinqi into clean clothes, gave her food, and washed her body.
Mrs. Wu only told Yan Jinqi that she might be too tired and exhausted, or it was a problem with her menstruation.
She knew that Mrs. Wu had good intentions. She was not stupid. In fact, she knew what the reason might be.
But since Mrs. Wu preserved her dignity, she was very grateful.
Yan Jinqi was lucky this time. She stayed at the village chief's house for the whole day and the group of spies did not come.
She thought about it and thought that they must have gone in another direction. After all, the road leading out of the woods and towards the village was the most difficult to walk on.
They probably guessed that she was walking in the direction of the road.
But she really couldn't stay there any longer.
"Village Chief, Sister-in-law, I have to go back to the army! The longer I stay here, the more dangerous it will be. They might come looking for me. I can't cause any trouble for you!"
Mrs. Wu was very concerned. "But how are you going to get there in your current condition? It's dozens of miles from the town, and even a donkey cart would take ages!"
Yan Jinqi certainly knew it, but she had to leave, especially since the intelligence she had collected was all kept in her mind.
There is no time to waste!
"Sister-in-law, I'm a soldier. I have to go back. This is my duty! Thank you so much, you and the village chief. Without you, I might have... When I return to complete my mission, I will come to thank you in person!"
"Comrade, don't say that! How about this, we'll find a donkey cart to get you out! Our area is remote, and the spies won't be able to find us for now!"
Yan Jinqi is so grateful.
That afternoon, the donkey cart that the village chief had found arrived. It was a family of three going to visit relatives in town, and they were just the right size to take her along.
The village chief told the family of three that they were her distant relatives, gave them some instructions, and then they set off.
Two hours after Yan Jinqi and his companions set out, the village was found by that man and dozens of others.
When the village chief and his wife heard people asking about a female soldier, they became suspicious.
They all said they had never seen it before and that no outsiders had ever come to this small village.
Just as a group of people were about to evacuate, someone found Yan Jinqi's bloody clothes from behind the village chief's house.
Village Chief Wu and Mrs. Wu's hearts were about to jump out of their throats. They had originally wanted to wash the clothes and let Yan Jinqi take them away, but they hadn't had time to wash them yet.
The man held the clothes and smiled slightly, "Village Chief, don't tell me this clothes are yours?"
The village chief hesitated, not knowing what to say. Seeing this, Mrs. Wu took the initiative to speak, "I found this dress in the woods. I saw that it was not torn, but it was stained with blood, so I brought it back and wanted to wash it and keep it for myself."
The man didn't say anything else. He picked up the clothes and compared them with Mrs. Wu. "Sister-in-law, isn't this dress a little too small for you at your height?"
Mrs. Wu was exposed and dared not say anything.
The villagers who were driven out of their homes didn't know what had happened. They only saw the soldiers questioning the village head and his wife, and thought that the couple had done something wrong.
"Search every house! I'm telling you, if I don't find this female spy today, none of you will be able to leave!"
A middle-aged man couldn't stand it anymore and stood up and shouted, "Hey, what's wrong with you soldiers? Believe me or not, I'll report you!"
