Chapter 13: Tearful Warmth
An Mingji still doesn't know what Gu Jin did for him.
He sat on a stool in the cabin, looked around the furnishings in the room, and finally looked at the neatly folded bedding on the bed.
He was the only one in such a clean and empty room. Even though he was tired and his eyelids were drooping, he would not sleep like this because he was afraid of making the clean bed dirty and messy.
When Gu Jin pushed open the door, he saw him sitting stiffly on a stool, his eyes moving around the room.
"Why don't you go to bed?"
An Mingji stood up and stammered, "...I'm too dirty."
Gu Jin smiled when he heard this, turned around and gently closed the door.
She had applied a black plaster to An Mingji before, so she naturally saw the wounds on his body and the signs that he hadn't taken a bath for several days.
But she didn't mind these. The other party's body was covered with scars and couldn't be touched by water. It would take some time to heal.
Gu Jin pulled the light cord in the room to turn off the power, then walked towards the bed in the moonlight outside.
Even if she got into bed, she would still have to get up and turn off the light, so she might as well just turn it off.
The room suddenly became dark, but An Mingji was not frightened. He just waited by the bed.
Gu Jin walked to the bed, took off his shoes and went up to it, and said to An Mingji, "Come up and sleep."
"Um."
In the darkness, An Mingji obviously relaxed his body and was no longer as tense as before.
He took off his shoes very quietly, as if afraid of disturbing anyone.
By the time he climbed onto the bed, Gu Jin had already made the bedding.
However, there is only one set of bedding in the room.
Under the moonlight, An Mingji sat in the middle of the bed, watching the slender figure in front of him busying around.
"Okay, come on in."
Hearing the gentle voice, An Mingji pursed his lips and hesitated for a moment before crawling towards the source of the sound.
There is no vacant room at home, so An Mingji can only live with Gu Jin for the time being. If An Mingji lives with his cousin, his aunt will have something to say.
In the past, when conditions were difficult, it was not uncommon for five or six people to squeeze into one big kang. It was only in recent years that Gu Jin had his own room.
When An Mingji approached, Gu Jin covered him with the quilt in his hand.
Not sure if it was some aftereffect, but Gu Jin felt a sharp pain in the back of his head.
That location was exactly where she had suffered the fatal blow that ended her life in her previous life.
Feeling the child lying down beside him, Gu Jin smelled the quilt full of soap scent and soon fell into a deep sleep, not affected at all by the presence of another person beside him.
The breathing of the people around him became even, but An Mingji was still maintaining the posture of getting into bed as at the beginning, holding the quilt with both hands, and lying in a very stiff and restrained position.
He weighed the even breathing beside him and made sure that Gu Jinren had fallen asleep. Then he slowly relaxed his body and enjoyed this rare warmth that made him want to cry.
In the darkness, her little hands groped for the quilt that was not soft but full of cotton and covered her body. Her eyes were sore and she wanted to cry.
He forgot how long it had been since he had covered himself with such a thick and warm quilt, and how long it had been since he had been cared for so much.
But all this warmth is not like before, when it was given out of pity and compassion by other villagers.
An Mingji clenched the quilt in his hands, unwilling to think about it anymore.
Many times, extravagant expectations ultimately lead to disappointment.
He closed his eyes, and the moonlight shone on his face, as if water was flowing across his face.
…
Gu Jin was dreaming.
I dreamed of little An Mingji.
She was like a bystander, watching the thin child in Qingshan Village endure the contempt, beatings, insults and verbal abuse from adults and children.
Watch how he changed from a child with clear eyes and a pure heart into the little wolf cub of the village.
I saw that he was wrongly accused and stole money from the villagers.
