Chapter 14 Returning to the Old House

Ma Aning knew he was the one who was suffering the most, so she comforted herself instead.

"Okay, Brother Shan, let's do it your way. Let's go home first."

Hearing his wife speak, Shen Zishan quickly got out of bed to get dressed, then took his wife's clothes and placed them by the bedside, helping her get up and dressed.

It was around 6 o'clock when the two of them came out, and Wenli was already busy in the kitchen.

"Mom, you're up so early." Shen Zishan quickly stepped forward to greet her.

"You still have to go to work today. If I don't get up early to make you something to eat on the way back, what will happen to the children if they go hungry on the way?" Wenli was still angry, and her words were sharp.

Shen Zishan touched his nose, smiled, and said nothing more.

"What delicious food did you make, Mom? I'm so hungry." Ma Aning quickly interrupted her mother's incessant chatter.

Wenli knew exactly what her daughter was thinking, and she never intended to make things difficult for him.

"Go wash your face and you can eat. I made your favorite egg pancakes."

After Wenli finished speaking, she glanced at Shen Zishan and said, "Hurry up and take it out. Make enough for both of you. Eat your fill so you can continue your journey."

Shen Zishan smiled and replied, "Okay, I'll serve it now."

Looking at Shen Zishan's honest and simple appearance, Ma Aning secretly smiled as she brushed her teeth.

After the couple had eaten and drunk their fill, they waved goodbye to Ma Quan and the others, and then slowly walked out of the Ma family's gate.

By this time, the sun was high in the sky, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting dappled shadows.

Ma Aning looked up at the sky, then turned to her husband beside her, her face full of worry, and said, "Brother Shan, why don't you go straight to work from here? I can get home by myself. If we delay any longer, you might be late."

Shen Zishan gently patted his wife's hand and comforted her, "It's okay, honey. It doesn't matter if we're late. We can just ask the company for an hour off."

"And this just gave me an opportunity to talk to the director about work-related matters."

As he spoke, he grasped Ma Aning's hand tightly, and the two walked slowly forward side by side.

Along the way, they sometimes whispered to each other and sometimes smiled at each other. Before they knew it, they had walked for more than an hour and finally returned home.

Upon entering, one sees only Qian Daniu sitting in a chair mending clothes.

Shen Zishan stepped forward, greeting her with a broad smile, "Mother! We're back!"

Qian Danu raised her head and glanced at her son and daughter-in-law. She originally wanted to nag and scold them, but the words her husband had said to her last night suddenly came to mind.

So she simply replied, "Okay, now that you're back, you should go to work! I'll take care of things at home, don't worry, I won't let your wife suffer any grievances."

Although he said that, his tone sounded somewhat annoyed.

Hearing his mother's words, Shen Zishan quickly smiled and said, "Thank you very much, Mother. I'll go to work now." After saying that, he turned and walked towards the door.

As Shen Zishan's figure receded into the distance until it disappeared, Qian Daniu glared fiercely at the tightly closed door, as if she wanted to tear the person inside apart alive through that door.

She spat angrily on the ground, muttering, "Hmph! That bitch is so pretentious. I don't know what tricks that vixen used to seduce my son and make him side with her."

However, remembering her husband's special instructions that she must never do anything to upset her son, Qian Danu could only suppress her anger.

She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails almost dug into her flesh, but in the end she resisted the urge to rush forward and beat and scold her.

At this moment, Ma Aning, who had been on edge all along, finally relaxed.

The tension and exhaustion she felt when she made eye contact with Qian Danu earlier surged into her heart like a tide. She felt weak all over, and her legs felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead.

Ma Aning dragged her heavy steps to the bedside, supported her belly and slowly lay down, soon falling into a deep sleep.

Shen Zishan arrived at the steel plant and greeted, "Uncle Li, good morning!"

"Ah Shan! You're late today." Uncle Li opened the small door and let Shen Zishan in, greeting him as he did so.

"Yes! Something came up at home and I was delayed. Has Director Wu arrived yet?" Shen Zishan took out a piece of fruit candy from his pocket and handed it to Uncle Li. "Uncle Li, please don't mind."

Uncle Li accepted it with a smile, "How could I possibly dislike it? Candy is a precious thing. Director Wu was a few minutes earlier than you; you came in around the same time."

"Thank you, Uncle Li. I'll go in now," Shen Zishan said goodbye and hurried away.

When I arrived at the office, I knocked gently on the door and waited for a "come in" greeting before opening the door and going inside.

"Director, hello, I am Shen Zishan," Shen Zishan introduced himself as he entered.

Time passed by, and before we knew it, it was almost 11 o'clock.

Qian Danu was busy in the kitchen, the clattering of pots and pans filling the air.

But no matter how long they waited, Ma Aning never came out of her room to help with the cooking.

Qian Danu grew angrier the more she thought about it, and couldn't help but mutter under her breath again: "What time is it? She's still lying in her room and won't come out. Does she really think she's a rich young lady from a landlord's family, that she can be waited on hand and foot?"

However, she only dared to complain in her heart, because if she made too much noise and others heard it and spread it, her own family would definitely be the one to suffer.

Ma Aning was sleeping when a sudden commotion woke her from her dream.

She sat up groggily, and upon listening carefully, realized the sound was coming from the kitchen. She knew without a doubt that her mother-in-law was fiddling with something again, and most likely deliberately making noise to wake her.

Thinking of this, Ma Aning sighed helplessly, shook her head, threw off the covers, got out of bed, put on her slippers, and went to the kitchen.

Thinking of this, Ma Aning sighed helplessly, shook her head, threw off the covers, got out of bed, put on her slippers, and went to the kitchen.

As soon as Ma Aning reached the kitchen door, she heard Qian Daniu muttering in a low voice, "Hmph, this lazy wife, what kind of wife is still sleeping in the middle of the day and not getting up?"

Ma Aning felt a pang of grievance, but she held back her anger. After taking a deep breath, she deliberately raised her voice and said, "Mother, I'm here to help you! What do you need me to do?"

Startled by the sudden noise, Qian Danu's hand trembled, and she nearly cut her finger with the cleaver she was holding.

Still shaken, she turned around and launched into a tirade against Ma Aning: "Oh my god, are you trying to kill me? Why are you yelling so loudly! You're trying to scare someone to death!"
