In the early morning, sunlight streamed through the window onto the dining table, illuminating Shen Xiaoxiao's slightly shy face.
She kept her head down, eating her breakfast silently. Occasionally, she would look up and steal a glance at Dai Xingyun sitting opposite her, then quickly lower her head again, a blush creeping onto her face.
Dai Xingyun noticed Shen Xiaoxiao's actions, and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly, revealing a gentle smile.
He gently picked up a meat bun, placed it in Chen Xiaoxiao's small bowl, and said softly, "Don't think too much, eat more."
Shen Xiaoxiao looked at Dai Xingyun with some surprise, then nodded, picked up the bun and took a bite.
During breakfast, the two did not exchange many words, but the atmosphere between them was exceptionally harmonious.
Time flies, and breakfast was finished in the blink of an eye.
Dai Xingyun got up to get his car keys, preparing to take Shen Xiaoxiao to school. He was driving Grandpa Dai's car, which was spacious and comfortable.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Shen Xiaoxiao couldn't bring herself to look Dai Xingyun in the eye. Her gaze kept drifting out the window, seemingly admiring the scenery, but in reality, her mind was elsewhere.
As Dai Xingyun drove, he kept an eye on Shen Xiaoxiao's reactions. When the car was almost at the school, he said softly, "Xiaoxiao, we're here!"
Shen Xiaoxiao then came to her senses, quickly responded, and reached for the car door.
However, just as she was about to get off the bus, Dai Xingyun suddenly grabbed her hand.
"What's wrong?" Shen Xiaoxiao turned her head in surprise, her gaze falling on Dai Xingyun, and asked in confusion.
A hint of grievance appeared on Dai Xingyun's face. He looked at Shen Xiaoxiao and said softly, "Am I pushing you too hard? Are you avoiding me?"
His tone revealed a hint of sorrow, as if he had truly suffered a great hurt.
Seeing this, Shen Xiaoxiao felt helpless. She rolled her eyes and said irritably, "How long have we known each other? Don't pretend in front of me."
"I was just a little shy at first." Her words carried a hint of reproach, but she wasn't really angry.
Upon hearing Shen Xiaoxiao's words, Dai Xingyun's lips curled up slightly, revealing a faint smile.
Shen Xiaoxiao said helplessly, "Alright, don't you have class today? Hurry up and park the car and go to class. Stop pretending here."
"Okay!" Dai Xingyun unbuckled his seatbelt, grabbed Shen Xiaoxiao's hand without hesitation, gently pulled her into his warm embrace, and then kissed her without any reservations.
This sudden kiss caught Shen Xiaoxiao off guard.
Her face flushed bright red instantly, and her heart raced like a wild horse.
After all, this is a school campus! Besides, there are very few people who can drive these days, and it would be really embarrassing if the students saw this.
Thinking of this, Shen Xiaoxiao hurriedly pushed Dai Xingyun away, her shyness becoming even more obvious.
This lesson was pure torture for Shen Xiaoxiao.
Her face remained flushed, and she kept drifting into a daze, the heart-pounding scene from just moments before constantly replaying in her mind.
Even the professor noticed her unusual behavior and cast a questioning glance at her several times.
Finally, the bell rang, and Shen Xiaoxiao breathed a sigh of relief.
She looked at the timetable and found that the next class wouldn't start until after lunch.
Suddenly, she remembered that she had accepted Dai Xingyun's marriage proposal and had not yet informed her parents. So, she quickly walked out of the classroom and headed towards the post office near the school.
Upon arriving at the post office, Shen Xiaoxiao found a quiet corner and dialed the village branch's phone number.
The familiar voice of the brigade leader came quickly from the other end of the phone: "Who is it?"
Hearing that familiar local accent, Shen Xiaoxiao's eyes immediately lit up, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously turned up, revealing a happy smile. "Grandpa Captain, it's me, Xiaoxiao!"
"Oh, it's Xiaoxiao. Aren't you studying? How's it going? Is the city fun? Are you getting used to it?" The captain's tone revealed his concern for Shen Xiaoxiao.
When Shen Xiaoxiao heard the captain's question, she obediently replied, "Grandpa Captain, I'm doing well here. I'm studying and I've gotten used to life here. I came to see my parents today because I have something to tell them. Could you please inform them for me?"
Upon hearing this, the brigade leader laughed and said, "Oh! You're looking for your parents, right? Okay, wait a moment, I'll go to the fields and call them." After saying that, the brigade leader hung up the phone.
After paying, Shen Xiaoxiao stood quietly to the side, silently counting down the time, waiting for the five minutes to pass.
Time ticked by, and finally, five minutes had passed.
Shen Xiaoxiao couldn't wait to pick up the phone and dialed the village branch's number with slightly trembling fingers.
This was the first time she had called home since she left home, and she was filled with anticipation.
The call was answered quickly, and Ma Aning's familiar and warm voice came through: "Hello, Xiaoxiao, is that you?"
Upon hearing her mother's voice, Shen Xiaoxiao's eyes immediately welled up with tears. She tried her best to keep her voice steady and said, "Mom, it's me! I missed you all so much!"
Ma Aning's voice was also a little choked up. After a while, Ma Aning spoke first: "Xiaoxiao, are you doing well out there? Have you been wronged?"
Shen Xiaoxiao quickly replied, "Mom, I'm fine, don't worry about me. I just miss you all a little." Her voice revealed a hint of longing.
Hearing her daughter's words, Ma Aning's heart softened, and she comforted her, "Silly child, if you miss us, call home more often."
"How is Xingyun? He hasn't called these past two days," Ma Aning asked.
Shen Xiaoxiao briefly told her mother about her experiences after arriving in Kyoto, of course only reporting the good news and not the bad, so as to reassure her mother.
Then they asked about the family situation, how Mom and Dad were doing, and if there had been any changes at home.
Ma Aning answered all the small questions one by one, telling her that everything was fine at home and that she could rest assured.
Shen Xiaoxiao happily shared her daily life with her mother, recounting what she saw and heard in her new environment.
Ma Aning listened patiently to her daughter's story, occasionally interjecting with her own opinions and suggestions.
