Chapter 78 I'm Not Human
"Yes, it was the car accident the next day!" the police officer said. "Do you know that what you did was a crime? Because of your action, the driver of that car is still lying in the hospital."
"He deserves it. He should have thought of this day when he forced me to kneel down to my son. I have never suffered such humiliation in my life. He is lucky to be alive." Zhang Wanben gritted his teeth, as if he remembered the scene of kneeling that day again.
Lin Hai had been trying to hold back, but upon hearing this, he rushed into the interrogation room without a word and pounced on Zhang Wanben, starting to hit him.
When the two policemen saw the situation, they quickly pulled him out.
"Zhang Wanben, are you still a human being? Do you know that you killed your son?"
Lin Hai was so emotional that he put his foot against the door and cursed at Zhang Wanben non-stop: "If you want revenge, come at me. Why did you brake? Did you know that Zhang Shuai was driving that car? You killed him. As a father, you killed your own son. Are you a human being? Are you still a human being?"
"Go out first and don't disturb our investigation here..." The two policemen tried to pull Lin Hai out, but failed.
He was so emotional at the moment that he used too much strength. He held the door firmly with his foot and glared at Zhang Wanben angrily.
Zhang Wanben was surprised when he saw Lin Hai. He was about to curse when he suddenly heard the words "You killed your own son". He was stunned for a long time and didn't react.
He stared at Lin Hai with wide eyes in disbelief, muttering, "What did you say?"
"I told you that you killed your son, you killed Zhang Shuai. Are you satisfied now? How could there be a father like you in this world? Why don't you just die?"
"Shut up, my son is fine, why would I hurt him? Tell me clearly, what happened to my son?" Zhang Wanben panicked and shouted at Lin Hai.
The arrogance he had just shown had disappeared. He looked at Lin Hai, his jaw shaking so much that he couldn't speak, and his hands couldn't help trembling.
He turned to look at the police, gave a panicked smile, then turned back to look at Lin Hai. He opened his mouth several times, but before he could say a word, he began to choke up: "You said... Zhang Shuai is dead?"
Without waiting for Lin Hai to answer, he turned his head and looked at the police officer, pointed his finger at Lin Hai and asked: "He said... my son... is dead?"
"Are you satisfied now? You killed him! How could you be so vicious? How could there be a father like you in the world? Why don't you just die?" Lin Hai lost control of his emotions and yelled at Zhang Wanben. The two policemen dragged him out.
"Impossible... Stop it, stop it! I... I didn't mean to harm my son... He's my son, how could I possibly kill him! I... I didn't!"
Zhang Wanben collapsed, covering his face and crying loudly, slapping his face while crying: "I am a beast, I am not a human... I killed my son, I am not a human..."
The subsequent interrogation took little time, and Zhang Wanben, heartbroken, confessed the entire incident truthfully, admitting that he had damaged the brakes, indirectly causing Zhang Shuai's accident.
A few months later, Zhang Wanben was sentenced to ten years in prison for both intentional injury resulting in serious bodily harm and intentional financial damage. He did not appeal the verdict.
After the trial, Tian Xin went to the detention center to see Zhang Wanben.
She had met this person less than three times in total, and both times were because of Zhang Shuai.
When he asked Zhang Shuai for money, his face was disgusting. But when she saw him this time, Tian Xin was shocked to find that he seemed to have aged suddenly.
His hair was almost completely white, and he looked much more haggard. The first thing he said when he saw Tian Xin was that he was wrong.
"I'm a bastard!" Zhang Wanben stared blankly at something with a lifeless look in his eyes. He said weakly:
"I haven't done many good things in my life. I did something evil once, and now it's my son who is paying the price! I deserve to die. It's my fault that he harmed me!" Zhang Wanben muttered to himself with his head down.
"I probably won't be able to repay him in this lifetime. As his father, I haven't done anything for him. I... I really am... worse than an animal..." Zhang Wanben cried bitterly and slapped his face. This time, he seemed to be truly repenting!
Unfortunately, it was too late! He had failed in his duty as a father and could no longer expect his son to forgive him!
But he can still make up for it!
"Uncle, if you really want to do something for Zhang Shuai, just tell me where his mother is. We have to let her come back to see him." Tian Xin asked this question on behalf of Zhang Shuai.
In the letter Zhang Shuai wrote to her, he said: "Boss, I miss my mom and I want to go find her. I believe she loves me. I want to bring her back and treat her well. I never had a good father in my life. Now that he's gone, he won't bother me or my mom. I want to find my mom! Having you and my mom as my family is enough for me!"
When Tian Xin read the letter, Zhang Shuai was already in the hospital. This was his wish; if he couldn't make it through this, he and his mother would never see each other again.
The letter also said that Zhang Wanben once mentioned that his mother was working in Tongcheng, but refused to tell him where exactly.
"Okay, I'll tell you! Go find her and tell her I'm sorry for her and my son!"
After coming out of the detention center, Tian Xin looked up at the sky.
The north wind blew, ruffling her hair. The weather was gloomy, with dark clouds covering the sky like a huge net, hiding the sun deep in the thick clouds and gently scattering a handful of snowflakes.
She stretched out her hand, and a snowflake fell into her palm. Before she could see clearly, the crystal clear snowflake melted in her palm and turned into a pool of water.
She wrapped her coat tightly around her, turned, walked down the steps and into the street.
Passing by the Public Security Bureau, she unexpectedly saw Lin Zhou's car parked at the entrance of an alley not far away.
She thought she was seeing things and went around to look at the license plate number.
Lin Zhou was sitting in the car, talking to a man. The man had his back to Tian Xin and was leaning against the car door.
"Lin Zhou!" Tian Xin called out tentatively.
The man outside the car turned around, and she saw that it was Lin Hai.
The two were surprised to see Tian Xin unexpectedly.
Lin Zhou got out of the car in a hurry and gave Lin Hai a wink, asking him to go first.
"Wait a moment?" Tian Xin called to Lin Hai. "Do you two know each other?"
"Ah! Yes, a friend!" Lin Zhou looked at Lin Hai unnaturally and gave her a dry laugh.
"Then why didn't you tell me that day?"
"Uh... I thought..."
"What do you want to say?" Lin Hai interrupted with a cold face, and Lin Zhou's half sentence was stuck in his throat.
"What is your relationship with Zhang Shuai? You're not relatives, are you?"
"What does this have to do with you? Is it your business?" Lin Hai looked impatient.
"Of course I'm in charge!" Tian Xin had originally just wanted to ask, but when he asked her that, she suddenly felt a little angry. This man had never left a good impression on her since they first met, and asking him a question was like taking a bullet, which was simply speechless.
"Then what is your relationship with him?" Lin Hai approached her with a sneer on his face.
The two people were on the verge of a fight, and Lin Zhou, caught in the middle, couldn't bear to watch it anymore!
"Okay, okay, stop arguing! You go first!" Lin Zhou gave Lin Hai a wink.
"good!"
"Why are you leaving?" Tian Xin was fed up and grabbed Lin Hai's wrist.
"Why are you in such a hurry? Explain yourself clearly."
When she pulled, all three of them were stunned.
Lin Hai pushed her away, turned around and asked impatiently: "What else do you want to do?"
Tian Xin's hand was a little painful from being thrown. She grabbed her wrist and rubbed it, then glanced at Lin Hai and said in a deep voice: "I misunderstood you this time. I'm sorry!"
"Tian Xin, it's okay, Lin Hai..." Seeing Tian Xin apologize, Lin Zhou quickly tried to mediate and ease the atmosphere.
"Let her speak!" Lin Hai interrupted Lin Zhou, seemingly not accepting her apology.
"I was worried, so I called the police. When I asked you that day, you refused to say anything. I also want to know why you exchanged cars with Zhang Shuai."
"So you think I did it on purpose?"
"Isn't it?"
"Idiot!" Lin Hai cursed, turned around and left.
