Chapter 63 is a bit pathetic.
After leaving the mall, Shen Xuewei and Chen Fangli stayed where they were, while Chen Fangyang went to drive the car over.
A short while later, a black sedan pulled up in front of the mall.
Chen Fangyang leaned out of the car and said, "Get in quickly, I'll take you home."
Shen Xuewei and her companion opened the car door and sat down in the back seat.
Chen Fangyang was driving. Shen Xuewei, who was carsick, closed her eyes uncomfortably in the back seat, while Chen Fangli looked at the car in front of her with a mixture of unease and curiosity.
Chen Fangyang glanced at himself in the rearview mirror and said, "Second sister, do you also think I'm pretty useless and lack ambition?"
Chen Fangli thought for a moment and nodded honestly.
"It is a bit pathetic."
Chen Fangyang's face stiffened, and he tried to explain himself.
Before he could speak, Chen Fangli paused and then said, "What happened to you is indeed a bit unpleasant to hear. However, you have definitely benefited from it. If you feel good about your life, then it's good. Don't worry about what others think."
At first, when she learned about Chen Fangyang's situation, she shared the same thoughts as Chen's maternal grandfather.
However, as time went by, she witnessed Chen Fangyang's life improve and things that were once distant became readily available, and she suddenly understood him.
If you can live a good life, who would want to live a hard life?
This is all just human nature.
If Chen Fangyang can't achieve it himself, but others are willing to help him achieve it, that's also his ability.
Although she is his sister, she is now just an outsider.
As an outsider, I have nothing to say and no right to criticize him.
Chen Fangyang was stunned. When he came to his senses, a smile appeared in his beautiful eyes.
"Thank you, Second Sister."
"There's nothing to thank me for. It's your own life, as long as you don't regret it."
The car drove all the way back to Xiaoli Village.
Although Shen Xuewei has been discharged from the hospital, she is still not in good spirits and hardly eats.
Only half a bowl of rice was served, and after everyone had almost finished eating, there was still half a bowl of rice left.
Chen Fangli was really worried about her, so she stayed at the Chen family's house and slept with Shen Xuewei at night.
She gently sang nursery rhymes to lull Chen Xuewei to sleep.
Shen Xuewei nestled in her warm embrace and drifted off to sleep.
When she woke up, Chen Fangli was not beside her.
Shen Xuewei glanced at her watch and realized it was only a little past nine o'clock at night.
After being sick, she was more sleepy than usual, and sleepiness quickly overcame her, but then she heard her grandmother's voice on the phone.
His eyes, which had been closed, suddenly opened.
The Chen family's mud-brick house was not very soundproof.
Shen Xuewei's room was separated from the main room by only a wooden board, and she could hear sounds from outside intermittently.
"...Weiwei is so sick in the hospital, she's almost dying, why don't you come to see her..." This was Grandma Xi's voice.
I don't know what was said on the other end of the phone, but Grandma Xi's voice was tinged with sobs.
"What kind of parents are you? I've never seen anyone so heartless..."
Chen Fangli was also saying something, but her voice was low and Shen Xuewei couldn't hear her clearly.
There seemed to be some kind of argument between the two sides, which ended with the other side hanging up the phone.
Shen Xuewei turned over, her eyes wide open, seemingly lost in thought.
Chen Fangli returned to the room, slowed her pace, breathed on her hands to warm them, and then went to bed next to Shen Xuewei.
She patted Shen Xuewei's back gently and whispered, "Weiwei, go to sleep. Your second aunt will stay with you. From now on, your second aunt will dote on you and ignore your parents, okay..."
Shen Xuewei snuggled closer to her, feeling enveloped in warmth from all sides.
Gradually, she fell into a deep sleep again.
Just before falling asleep, she muttered, "It's okay... I stopped caring about them a long time ago."
Upon hearing this clearly, Chen Fangli's eyes welled up with tears. She didn't say anything, but simply continued patting her back.
The next morning, Chen Fangyang left the Chen family.
He owns a house in the city and is married, so he doesn't want to stay in Xiaoli Village often.
Before leaving the Chen family, he took out all the cash he had and gave it to Chen's maternal grandfather.
"Dad, Mom, I'm leaving now. I probably won't be back for Chinese New Year this year. Fang'er needs me to be with her. I'll come home to see you after the New Year. Here's some money for you. If it's not enough, just let me know."
Grandpa Chen didn't want his money, and his attitude was still not good this time, just like the first time.
However, at least he didn't physically assault anyone.
“I don’t need your money. The money I took from you last time is something I owe you. I’ll pay you back when I’ve saved enough. You can come back to this house if you want, or not if you don’t… it’s all up to you, you don’t need to tell us anything.”
Chen Fangyang opened his mouth, but under the oppressive gaze of his maternal grandfather, he couldn't say a word.
His expression darkened, his shoulders slumped slightly, and he left with the wad of money in his hand.
After he left, Grandma Xi looked at Grandpa Chen and couldn't help but complain:
"It's a child's heartfelt gift, why are you making such a sour face? Wouldn't it be terrible if you hurt the child's feelings?"
Grandpa Chen remained silent for a long time before saying in a somewhat hoarse voice, "He's not the only one who's been hurt."
Grandma Xi had been married to him for many years and rarely saw him look so distraught. She was so shocked that she dared not say another word.
Shen Xuewei rested at home for three days, and at her insistence, Chen Fangli soon sent her back to school.
There are only two days left in this semester.
Going back to school now will allow me to take the final exams in time.
She hadn't been back to school for over ten days, and when she returned, everyone in the dormitory gathered around her.
Ye Meiling touched her face tenderly, "Weiwei, you've lost so much weight in just over ten days."
Shen Xuewei has recovered from her illness, but her appetite has not returned, and she has become thinner and thinner each day.
She was listless, and when her friends gathered around her, she could only manage a weak smile, her voice sounding feeble.
"I'm fine, I should be better in a few days."
After everyone left, she climbed into her bed.
After spreading out the quilt, she picked up the schoolbag next to her, unzipped it, and took a look.
Wu Yuhong from the next bed came over and handed over two pieces of clothing hanging on the hanger.
She whispered, "When you went back that day, you hadn't packed your clothes yet. When I packed them, I packed them for you. Otherwise, they might get stolen if left outside."
Shen Xuewei smiled gratefully, "Thank you, Yu Hong. I'll treat you to something to eat later."
"No need, just get well soon. I'd like to go to and from school with you again later."
"Yes, it will. It definitely will."
Shen Xuewei removed the clothes hanger, folded the clothes, unlocked three locks, and placed the clothes in the wooden box.
After putting the clothes away, she took out a locked notebook from the bottom of the wooden box.
I breathed a sigh of relief after opening the box with the password and seeing the bank card inside.
She put the bank card back in the folding box, closed the notebook, scrambled the PIN, and put the notebook in the backpack she carried every day.
