Chapter 72 Sinking Together
Teacher Yao was still in the classroom, walking around it once.
Seeing that everyone was very quiet, he went to the podium and picked up all the homework assignments for the three subjects.
When he reached the door, he paused and glanced at Shen Xuewei.
Seeing this, Shen Xuewei put down her book, picked up a red pen, and followed.
After arriving at the teacher's office, Ms. Yao placed the Chinese and English homework on the desks of the other two teachers.
He had Shen Xuewei sit to the side and then picked out her math homework first.
He quickly finished grading Shen Xuewei's math homework and put it back in front of her.
"Come on, Xuewei, help the teacher grade the homework. After you finish grading, hand it back to the class. Then check which homework was submitted blank and which homework was not submitted at all. Call them to the teacher's office."
"Okay, teacher, I understand."
Shen Xuewei said she was already used to it.
She sat at her desk with a red pen in hand, grading homework right under Teacher Yao's nose.
The homework was graded by Shen Xuewei, and Teacher Yao, who had some free time, chatted casually with the other two teachers on duty.
Shen Xuewei finished grading the math homework in just over ten minutes.
Teacher Yao casually flipped through a few books, nodded, and said, "Okay, that's fine. Take them back and distribute them."
Shen Xuewei took the assignments back to the classroom and handed them out. After handing them out, she stood on the podium and called out a few names.
"Wu Jinming, Deng Yufang, Li Liguo, Zhang Ming, Wang Jinyu, the teacher wants to see you in the office."
The group headed to the office with long faces. Because of what happened last time, Wu Jinming turned back and glared at Shen Xuewei before leaving through the back door of the classroom.
Shen Xuewei didn't react, pretending not to see it, and sat back down in her seat to read quietly.
After finally getting through two evening self-study sessions, everyone returned to their dormitories.
Shen Xuewei didn't have time to fetch water during the day, so the first thing she did after returning to her dormitory from the classroom was to take a bucket downstairs to fetch water.
After the water was applied, she rested for a while and wiped her face with some water.
Using the leftover water from washing his face, he washed his feet, then quickly climbed into bed, took out a new notebook from his schoolbag, and started writing something.
I had only been writing for about half an hour when I heard the lights-out bell downstairs, along with the old dormitory supervisor's voice.
Ten minutes later, the lights went out completely.
Shen Xuewei continued writing, bathed in the cool moonlight streaming in from outside.
There were still some people talking in the dormitory at this time, but as the footsteps of the patrolling teacher gradually approached, everyone stopped talking.
At the same time, Shen Xuewei put away her pen and packed her things into her schoolbag.
She was very busy for two days in a row.
Even during physical education class, after the teacher had the students run two laps around the playground and dismissed them, she went straight back to the classroom to continue working on her manuscript.
We have to seize every second!
She promised to finish writing the entire novel in ten days, but without making the most of the time, she might not be able to finish it.
Ye Meiling watched her run back to the classroom and complained:
"Why is Weiwei so focused lately? She's always been busy, but never to this extent."
Although I didn't jump rope or play badminton with them much before, I was at least willing to play a few rounds during PE class.
Now, I don't even play with them in PE class anymore, and I don't know what I do all day.
Wu Yuhong hit the badminton shuttlecock over, saying as she hit it:
"Oh dear, she said the material she's been learning lately is getting harder and harder, so she definitely needs to do more writing and practicing. Never mind her, just keep playing, it's not like you're all alone."
Under her increasingly aggressive offensive, Ye Meiling could no longer pay attention to Shen Xuewei and focused on playing badminton with Wu Yuhong.
After ten days of hard work, Shen Xuewei finally finished all the manuscripts.
On the tenth day, which is also a Thursday, boarding students are not allowed to leave the school alone.
Shen Xuewei made up an excuse, got a leave slip from Teacher Yan, asked for a day off, and left school smoothly.
She rushed into an internet cafe and sent the completed draft to the editor.
After everything was done, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She bought some food at the market, and seeing that it was almost time, she hurried back to school.
Friday arrived, which happened to be the day of the final exams.
After finishing the three exams and returning to the dormitory from the classroom, everyone in the dormitory was still laughing.
But someone started a conversation, and the originally cheerful atmosphere gradually turned heavy.
"When you go to junior high school, you must never forget me!"
"And me too. We should all be in Mingda Junior High School, right? Don't go to study somewhere else."
"If we're still in the same class, you guys will continue to play with me."
...
Shen Xuewei listened quietly to everyone talking and smiled at them.
Ye Meiling, who had gotten out of bed, poked her head up and said earnestly, "Weiwei, when we get to junior high, if I need to find you, you're not allowed to pretend you don't know me!"
Her serious tone carried a hint of nervousness, as if she were afraid of hearing something she didn't want to say from Shen Xuewei's mouth.
Shen Xuewei chuckled and reached out to tuck the bangs that were covering her eyes behind her ears.
"No, what if we were still in the same class, going to and from get out of class together, eating together, and saving seats together?"
Ye Meiling nodded vigorously, "Okay, it's a promise, no changes allowed!"
Zhong Shiqi, who had just gotten out of bed, and Wu Yuhongye, who was next door, peeked out.
"Don't forget the two of us!"
Ye Meiling put everyone's hands together, "Okay, we're all together now, and we're not allowed to change this for the rest of our lives!"
A promise made now is unchanging, but as time goes by and more and more people enter your life, that promise is destined to change.
Shen Xuewei knew that a lifetime was too far away, but she didn't want to ruin the atmosphere at this moment.
Why bother with being so clear-headed? When it's time to sink, let's all sink together.
The four girls looked on with longing and made promises one after another.
Since the exams were over, the parents who were waiting outside the school were allowed to enter.
Grandpa Chen arrived at the school on Chen Fangqiu's motorcycle and together they helped Shen Xuewei bring her things home.
Shen Xuewei carried her schoolbag, while Grandpa Chen carried her quilt and mat, and Chen Fangqiu helped carry her suitcase.
She waved goodbye to her roommates and, urged impatiently by Chen Fangqiu, went downstairs and left the dormitory.
Upon arriving at the school gate, Chen Fangqiu tied the box to the back of the motorcycle.
Wu Yuhong ran over carrying a box, and Shen Xuewei lent a hand, and together they stacked Wu Yuhong's box on top of Shen Xuewei's box.
The motorcycle is only so big; after putting things in the back, it can barely fit two people.
No one from Wu Yuhong's family came to pick her up, so it was arranged beforehand that Chen Fangqiu would help take her suitcase back with her so she could take a bus home by herself.
Shen Xuewei also carried some things for Wu Yuhong, so that she wouldn't be unable to carry them all by herself later.
After securing both boxes, Shen Xuewei and Wu Yuhong told each other to be careful on the road before squeezing onto the motorcycle.
The sound of the motorcycle starting rang out, and it quickly left the school gate, gradually disappearing into the distance.
Shen Xuewei glanced back at the school, which was getting smaller and smaller, and a variety of emotions flashed in her eyes.
When Grandpa Chen saw her twisting her arm to look behind her, he scolded her.
"Weiwei, turn your head back quickly! It's dangerous like this!"
Shen Xuewei smiled and obediently agreed, gently resting her head on her uncle's back, letting the wind blow past her ears.
