Chapter 92 The New Transfer Student
Shen Xuewei swept up the trash outside and went back inside when she heard Grandma Xi muttering in front of the phone.
She asked in confusion, "Grandma, what are you talking about?"
Grandma Xi came to her senses and, not wanting to mention it to her lest it hurt her mother-daughter relationship with Chen Fangmin, covered it up by saying:
"It's nothing, I was just thinking about what to bring to your godfather's house tomorrow."
Everything in this house was decided by Grandpa Chen and Grandma Xi, so Shen Xuewei said, "Just refer to what we brought last year, or you can ask Grandpa."
"Okay, I'll go ask your grandfather in a bit. By the way, the pig feed at home won't be enough after we finish feeding them tonight, so remember to cook another pot."
"Okay, Grandma, I'll go with my aunt to gather pig feed later."
Shen Xuewei changed into some old clothes and called out to Chen Fanglan at her door.
"Auntie, come with me to gather pig feed in a little while."
Chen Fanglan was lying in bed reading a novel. Upon hearing this, she casually put the novel aside and replied, "Okay, help me prepare the basket. I'm going to change my clothes."
Shen Xuewei searched the storeroom, retrieved the basket that Granny Chen used to use, then carried her own and waited for Chen Fanglan at the door with a wood-chopping knife.
Chen Fanglan changed her clothes, took the machete and basket from her, and walked with her towards the back mountain.
She chopped pig feed, only filling Shen Xuewei's basket halfway, and stuffing the rest into her basket until it was full.
"Let's go home."
Shen Xuewei watched her retreating figure and smiled.
After returning home, Chen Fanglan fed the pigs and chopped up the pig feed, then asked Shen Xuewei to cook the pig feed.
The next day, Shen Xuewei went with her maternal grandmother to visit her godparents for the New Year. When they returned, Chen Fanglan had already packed her things and planned to take a bus back to the county for work early the next morning.
That evening, Shen Xuewei was writing in her room when someone knocked on the door.
She closed the notebook in her hand and asked, "Who is it? Come in."
Chen Fanglan pushed open the door and came in. Seeing the test papers and homework books next to her, she sighed, "Weiwei, you study much harder than I did back then. Study hard, and you'll definitely have a bright future."
Shen Xuewei smiled, sat on the edge of the bed, and patted the spot next to her.
"Auntie, what brings you here?"
Chen Fanglan walked over slowly, sat down next to her, and took out a handful of money from her pocket and stuffed it into Shen Xuewei's hand.
"This is from your aunt. Keep it safe and don't let your grandparents take it. They're used to being frugal, and your parents... well, never mind. Just keep it for yourself, and remember to buy something to eat if you get hungry."
"If you run out of money later, remember to call me. I gave you my number before, remember?"
She continued speaking only after Shen Xuewei nodded.
"I'm leaving tomorrow. The beauty salon is opening a branch after the New Year, and the boss wants me to learn more about management so he can arrange for me to be the manager of the new store. I'll be quite busy after that, so I probably won't be coming back as often."
“If you miss me, remember to call me. Also, your grandparents are getting old, so tell them to farm less. They should spend the money I give them as they see fit; I don't need them to save it for me. Please remember to persuade them to do the same…”
“They don’t like what I say, and I don’t like what they say either. Your two uncles are unreliable; the only people you can rely on besides your second aunt are you. Anyway, try to persuade them if you can. If they don’t listen after you’ve tried… well, then just forget about it…”
Chen Fanglan was about to return to work in the county, and she was worried about her family, which consisted of both elderly and young members.
I just hope that Weiwei can try to persuade them a little.
Shen Xuewei nodded, "Auntie, I understand. You should work hard after you go out. I'll take good care of the house when I come back on the weekend."
Chen Fanglan patted her head with satisfaction, then turned and left the room.
Shen Xuewei looked down at the wad of money in her hand and counted it.
There were two hundred yuan in total, all in ten-yuan denominations, and they were all brand new. Chen Fanglan must have specially exchanged them for her from the bank.
The next morning, Chen Fanglan packed her bags and prepared to leave.
The elderly couple and Shen Xuewei escorted her to the village entrance to wait for the bus.
While waiting for the bus, Grandma Xi couldn't help but say again:
“Alan, you should focus on your work, but you also need to see if there’s a suitable man for you. You’re almost thirty; you can’t keep living alone forever.”
"While you're still young, find someone else. That way, I'll feel at ease knowing you'll have someone by your side in the future."
Chen Fanglan's expression instantly collapsed. "Mom, I already told you, I'm busy with work, how can I have the time to look for someone! Besides, didn't you say you wouldn't urge me anymore?"
"Didn't I say that last year? It's already past the New Year, you can't live alone forever, can you? If you don't want to find someone, how about Mom asks someone to introduce you to someone..."
Shen Xuewei, who was standing to the side, glanced at Chen Fanglan's pained face and took a few steps back.
Chen Fanglan's reluctance to leave her home vanished as her grandmother Xi continued to murmur.
She listened to the sounds around her, her eyes almost fixed on the road ahead.
He thought to himself: Why is the bus taking so long to arrive today?
The short twenty minutes felt incredibly long to her.
When she saw a three-wheeled vehicle carrying passengers ahead, she almost burst into tears of joy.
Before the tricycle had even come to a complete stop, she hurriedly walked over, carrying her luggage.
Only after getting into the car did I finally breathe a sigh of relief, forcing a smile as I waved goodbye to the three people on the roadside.
The three men watched her leave with reluctance in their eyes.
The three of them didn't go home until the car was out of sight.
Chen Fangqiu was eating in the main room when he saw the three of them return. He tilted his head back, poured the rice from the bottom of his bowl into his mouth, wiped his mouth, and reached out to ask the two elders for money.
"Mom and Dad, give me five hundred yuan."
Grandpa Chen frowned. "What do you need money for?"
Chen Fangqiu's expression showed some impatience, "Don't..."
He had barely uttered the two words when he realized that if he didn't put it in a positive light, the two of them probably wouldn't give him the money.
He changed his tone and manner.
"I plan to go to town or the surrounding area to see if there are any suitable jobs. I'll use the money to find someone to help me, and I'll also fill up the gas tank for my motorcycle."
Upon hearing that the money was for legitimate purposes, Grandpa Chen's expression relaxed.
"Okay, since you want to find a job, work hard once you find one, don't quit after just a few days. In two years, save up some money and get married..."
"Okay, Dad, give me the money first."
Grandpa Chen paused, but still counted out five hundred yuan for him.
Chen Fangqiu took the money from him, turned around and left through the door, riding away on his motorcycle.
Shen Xuewei glanced at the sighing elderly couple. She figured they probably knew that Chen Fangqiu wouldn't honestly go to work after taking the money.
However, Chen Fangqiu was their youngest child, and as long as there was even the slightest possibility, they were still willing to believe it.
Not long after, Shen Xuewei started school.
School days were no different from before; they were still fulfilling and busy.
A new student transferred to the class; he came from the neighboring town.
She was different from normal people; she was a dwarf.
On his first day after transferring, he was noticed by all the students in the class because of his special physical condition.
