Chapter 35 A Stunning Beauty
Shen Xuewei walked past Ye Meiling's mother and stood at the office door.
After she called out "Report!", she went inside and placed the collected homework on Teacher Lin's desk.
As soon as the school bell rang, Wu Yuhong and Zhong Shiqi rushed to the cafeteria.
After getting their food, they returned to the classroom.
Wu Yuhong handed Shen Xuewei her lunchbox. Shen Xuewei opened the lunchbox, took a bite, and then sat down in the chair in front of Ye Meiling, still holding the lunchbox.
Zhong Shiqi placed Ye Meiling's lunchbox on her desk, nudged her arm, and whispered:
"Meiling, dinner is ready."
Ye Meiling, who had been burying her head on the desk since returning to the classroom, raised her red and swollen eyes and said in a slightly hoarse voice:
"Thanks."
She held the lunchbox and silently ate her rice.
After a few bites, tears started falling again.
She said bitterly, "She only likes my brother, not me!"
The person she was referring to was, after all, her mother, and none of them knew how to comfort her.
Shen Xuewei swallowed the food in her mouth and said gently, "If she doesn't like you, you shouldn't like her either."
She understood Ye Meiling's grievances and pain.
However, it's something that the person involved should be able to accept.
A magnanimous person will eventually heal themselves; a person trapped in it will never be able to escape it in their lifetime.
After finishing her meal, Ye Meiling returned to her usual cheerful and lively demeanor, but her still red and swollen eyes betrayed her true emotions.
The weather is getting colder and colder. Someone in the dormitory has caught a cold, and it's inevitable that people will get infected while living in the same dormitory.
The sounds of chatting in the dormitory were interspersed with coughs and sniffling, rising and falling in waves.
Shen Xuewei put on her coat, wrapped herself tightly in the quilt, and then took a deep sniff.
She comforted herself, saying: It's okay, just one more day and I can go home; in a little over a month, I can have a vacation...
As soon as school was over on Friday, she and Wu Yuhong rushed out of the school gate.
Grandpa Chen saw the two people at the market and noticed that their snot was flowing from their noses at the same time.
"Weiwei, Yuhong, dress properly at school and don't get chilled."
Wu Yuhong was always a little reserved in front of Grandpa Chen. Hearing this, she smiled shyly and then lowered her head to wipe her nose.
Shen Xuewei wiped her nose, but tilted her head back, looking somewhat unconvinced.
"We were dressed properly and didn't kick off the blankets. We caught it from our classmates!"
There are 24 people in the dormitory, and nearly half of them have caught a cold.
We can't figure out which one is the source anyway.
A cold doesn't affect going to school, so teachers won't ask students to take leave. At most, they'll take students to an off-campus doctor to get some cold medicine.
After Shen Xuewei sold all the items at Grandpa Chen's stall, Grandpa Chen took the two of them to the doctor to get some medicine, and then they got into the car to go back.
Winter nights always seem to arrive with great eagerness.
When Shen Xuewei and the other two got out of the car, the sky had already darkened to a deep gloom.
Grandpa Chen turned on the old-fashioned flashlight he had brought, and then stuffed a small flashlight into Shen Xuewei's hand, telling the two of them to follow him carefully and not get lost.
The two followed behind him, and he would look back every now and then, until they finally returned to Xiaoli Village. Hearing the barking of dogs coming from the village, all three of them relaxed at the same time.
Wu Yuhong and the other woman waved goodbye and walked towards their home in the dark.
Shen Xuewei shone the flashlight on the ground, while Grandpa Chen shone the flashlight on Wu Yuhong until she returned home, at which point he turned the light back.
When they returned home, Da Huang did not greet them as warmly as before.
Shen Xuewei put down her schoolbag and walked towards the doghouse, slowly squatting down in front of it.
Big Yellow wagged its tail and licked Shen Xuewei's hand, then showed her the puppies under its belly.
Shen Xuewei looked delighted. "Dahuang, you had puppies?"
Last weekend, Dahuang hadn't given birth yet. This litter of puppies probably gave birth a few days ago; their eyes aren't even open yet, and they can only whine and whimper.
Big Yellow gave a soft "woof" in response.
Shen Xuewei made two "sniffling" sounds, and the big yellow dog, which had been lying down, raised its head to look at her again. The five puppies under its belly also looked up, half asleep.
Grandma Xi, who had just returned from feeding the pigs, saw this and said, "Dahuang's puppies were only two days old. Don't touch them. It's cold, and the puppies are too small; they'll easily die."
"Okay, Grandma."
She stood up, scooped up a ladle of water, and washed her hands.
I put my hand in the cold water and couldn't help but shiver.
It's so cold...
After eating and digesting a little, Grandma Xi poured a cup of hot water and placed it in front of her, then took out a packet of medicine prescribed by the doctor.
"Weiwei, take your medicine quickly. Taking medicine will help you recover from your cold faster."
Shen Xuewei frowned and waited for the hot water to cool down a bit before swallowing the medicine in the white paper package in one gulp with the water.
Grandma Xi patted her back and urged her to drink another sip of water.
"Drink some more water to mask the taste of the medicine in your mouth, and it won't be bitter anymore."
Shen Xuewei held the cup and slowly drank a few sips, and only then was Grandma Xi satisfied.
She touched Shen Xuewei's forehead and, seeing that she didn't have a fever, lowered her hand.
"Weiwei, you're back just in time. There's a banquet tomorrow, I'll take you there, and your grandfather can cook lunch for himself."
"Okay, I'll go with Grandma."
Shen Xuewei couldn't remember whose feast she was eating at.
After all, in her previous life, she rarely had a sumptuous meal, and she was only focused on eating.
The next morning, before dawn, Grandma Xi woke up Shen Xuewei.
While Shen Xuewei was washing her face, Chen Fangyang, who had been woken up by the cold, came downstairs to use the restroom.
Upon hearing that the two were going to a banquet, he instantly lost most of his drowsiness and insisted that he wanted to go too.
When people go to a banquet here, the whole family usually goes together.
Grandpa Chen had other things to do and couldn't come; Grandma Chen was old and hard of hearing, so they didn't call her; and that's why they didn't tell Chen Fangyang either...
It's because he's too lazy; he's too lazy to even get out of bed. Grandma Xi figured he wouldn't be willing to go anyway, so she simply didn't mention it to him.
If this had happened a while ago, Chen Fangyang might not have been interested.
However... the family hasn't bought any meat to eat for a long time. The cured meat hanging there was taken away by Grandma Xi when Chen Fanglan last went back to her parents' home.
He hadn't eaten meat for half a month and was really craving it.
I'd be willing to work hard just to get a free meal and make a little extra money.
Seeing that the two were about to leave, he quickly washed his face and brushed his teeth, changed into a more fashionable outfit, sprayed some hair gel on his hair, and tidied up his hairstyle.
Grandma Xi and Shen Xuewei were already standing at the door, rolling their eyes and urging him, "Second Uncle, are you done yet? Grandma and I are leaving."
Chen Fangyang ran his fingers through his hair one last time and replied, "Coming right away, coming right away!"
He quickly went downstairs in a few quick steps, showing off to the two of them, and said, "Mom, Weiwei, do I look okay today?"
Grandma Xi frowned. "You're always so sloppy, I've never seen you take care of yourself. Why are you keeping your hair so long? You look like a girl. Cut it short later..."
Chen Fangyang's smile slowly faded. Not wanting to talk to someone like Grandma Xi who lacked appreciation, he turned to Shen Xuewei and leaned closer to ask:
"Little Weiwei, how's your second uncle doing today?"
Shen Xuewei admired the stunningly beautiful face so close to her eyes for a while, then said expressionlessly:
"ugly!"
