Chapter 285 Extra 1 (Wang Shan’s Previous Life 1)
Wang Shan never thought that as 2024 was approaching, a flowerpot falling from the sky would deal a heavy blow to her family.
Seeing her mother being hit and bleeding, and then falling backwards, she wanted to run over to hold her, but she found that her legs seemed to have no strength.
Fortunately, Dad stepped forward and prevented Mom from falling backwards to the ground.
"Shanshan, call 120!"
Wang Xiuren sat on the ground, carefully protecting Lin Qiu's head with his trembling hands, his face as white as paper.
Wang Shan frantically took out her cell phone from her bag and slid her fingers across the screen in panic.
"Hurry up!" Wang Xiuren yelled at her anxiously.
Wang Shan was also extremely anxious. She finally dialed the hospital's number, explained the situation clearly, and then hung up the phone. She moved to her parents' side in a daze and held her mother's hand which was gradually getting colder.
"Why hasn't he arrived yet?" Wang Xiuren asked repeatedly with a trembling voice, "Call again to urge him."
While calling the hospital, Wang Shan took off her coat and covered her mother with it.
While waiting for the ambulance, she truly felt what it meant to "live every second like a year."
She also believed that her father felt the same way.
The ambulance arrived quickly.
After Lin Qiu was lifted into the ambulance by medical staff, Wang Shan and Wang Xiuren also got in to accompany and escort him.
After arriving at the hospital, my mother was pushed directly into the operating room.
Wang Shan tried hard to calm herself down, then completed all the procedures, paid the fees, and returned to the door of the operating room to wait.
She found her father squatting at the door of the operating room, holding his head. He lowered his head and his facial expression could not be seen, but his bloody arm was shaking constantly.
Wang Shan walked over, squatted beside him, and comforted him silently.
"Tell me, if you don't go out to celebrate my birthday today, will your mother get hit?"
After an unknown amount of time, Wang Shan heard her father's hoarse voice.
"Dad, you can't think like that." She patted his shoulder, "Mom will be fine."
"Yes, your mother will be fine. She will be fine."
The door of the operating room finally opened, and Wang Shan and Wang Xiuren hurried forward.
But squatting for a long time made their legs and feet numb and they almost couldn't stand steadily.
"Doctor, how is my mother?" Wang Shan asked, leaning against the wall.
"Doctor, is my wife okay?" Wang Xiuren held the doctor's hand and looked at her expectantly.
The doctor nodded and said, "She's lucky. If she was on a higher floor, she wouldn't have survived."
"Thank you, doctor. Thank you, doctor. It's New Year's Day and I'm sorry to bother you." Wang Shan bowed to the doctor hurriedly.
"Don't be so polite. This is what we should do." The doctor helped her up. "The injured person still needs to be observed tonight. If nothing goes wrong, he will wake up tomorrow morning."
After sending the doctor away, Wang Shan supported her father and watched her mother, with gauze wrapped around her head, lying on a stretcher and being pushed into the ICU ward by the nurse.
The father and daughter could only watch Lin Qiu lying quietly on the hospital bed through the glass on the door.
"Dad, you go back first. I'll stay here to take care of mom." Wang Shan looked at him.
"I won't go back. I want to stay here to take care of your mother." Wang Xiuren shook his head.
"I can take care of it by myself. You go back and have a rest first, and come back to take my place tomorrow morning." Wang Shan was worried that her father was too old to make it.
Wang Xiuren refused to agree no matter what.
Wang Shan had no choice but to give up.
The father and daughter sat side by side outside the ward, and neither of them spoke.
Wang Shan couldn't help but think of the past. Thirty years of memories flashed through her mind like a movie.
Like most rural children in Hunan Province in the 1990s, she had a father who worked away from home all year round and a mother who stayed at home to farm and take care of the children.
The only difference is that she is an only child, which is rare in rural areas.
You know, in that era and environment, most rural families would choose to have two children, especially preferring boys, but her family only had her, which undoubtedly made her family, especially her and her mother, the subject of discussion in the village.
Most of this talk is malicious criticism and attacks.
Even her grandparents played the role of critics.
Wang Shan can be considered precocious. She knew very early on that her grandparents had different attitudes towards her family and those of other uncles and aunts.
At first she thought it was simply because her grandparents favored boys over girls and didn’t like her, so they also disliked her mom and dad.
Later, Wang Shan slowly discovered that things were not as she had imagined.
By chance, Wang Shan overheard the conversation between her grandparents and uncles and understood the reason.
It turns out that my grandparents have always held the idea that my dad is the most incompetent among their four brothers.
This view may seem surprising, but there may be some unknown reasons or stories behind it. Maybe it’s because Dad didn’t achieve any notable success in his career? Or is it that his personality is gentler and more low-key compared to his other brothers?
When Wang Shan heard her grandparents belittling her father, she felt an indescribable sense of grievance and anger.
At that moment, it was as if a fire was burning in her chest, making it almost impossible for her to breathe.
Dad has been silently giving, but grandparents are able to do it but turn a blind eye. As children, why are we treated so unfairly?
My father treats my parents and brothers with all his heart and care, but they don't seem to appreciate it and even act indifferent and selfish.
How can this not make people feel chilled?
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but feel sad and worthless for her father.
She secretly made up her mind to make a name for herself and impress those who looked down on her parents.
She wanted to let these people know that even though she was a girl, she was no worse than other people's sons.
In rural areas, there is only one way to change your destiny, and that is to study.
So she studied hard and always ranked among the top students since elementary school, and was successfully admitted to the best junior high school and the best high school in the county.
She still remembers the proud smiles on her parents' faces and their straight backs when she received the admission letter.
When she entered high school, she quickly discovered the gap between herself and the top students.
Since I don't have the talent, I can only rely on hard work.
She still remembers that in order to finish more math problems, she didn't take a nap at noon, and when she felt sleepy, she would take out a fresh chili pepper and take a bite.
In this way, by putting in twice the effort, she always maintained her ranking among the top 20 in her grade.
But sometimes, fate is unfair.
During the semester when she was taking the college entrance examination, her father suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Although the family’s savings were lost, he was cured.
Her mother was afraid that it would affect her college entrance examination, so she never told her the news. It was not until after the college entrance examination that she saw her father recuperating at home.
Looking at her frail father and dark and thin mother, she changed her choice of major to a normal university.
The moment she received the notice, my mother cried. She felt that her family was a burden to her.
But I think it’s no big deal. As long as I work hard, things won’t be too bad in the future.
