Chapter 2 Memory

Lin Zhiyue endured the physical discomfort and the swelling pain caused by the fusion of memories in her head, tried to calm down, and began to carefully sort out this new memory that flooded into her mind.

In the 1970s, Lin Zhiyue, who lived here and now, had such a rough fate.

Her father, Lin Jun, works hard in the town's large steel plant.

In that steel plant, machines roared and sparks flew all day long. In this hot and dangerous environment, Lin Jun earned a monthly salary of 40 yuan with his hard work and tenacity.

Although 40 yuan was not enough to make a fortune in the small town at that time, it was enough to support a family's relatively decent life.

However, the unpredictable fate always comes unexpectedly.

During a daily work, a sudden accident, like a ruthless bomb, instantly shattered the peace of this family.

Lin Jun unfortunately died in that accident. His once energetic body collapsed forever in the workshop of the steel plant, leaving his family with endless grief.

Lin Zhiyue's mother, Zhang Mei, is a highly respected teacher in the team.

Every day she shuttles between the simple classroom and the children, imparting knowledge and hope with her gentle voice, and earns a monthly salary of 20 yuan.

Lin Jun and Zhang Mei, in that simple era, fell in love freely, their hearts were closely connected, and their feelings were as deep as aged wine, which was extremely enviable.

They planned their future together and looked forward to their children's growth, but Lin Jun's sudden death was like a heavy hammer that completely shattered Zhang Mei's world.

Since then, Zhang Mei's world seemed to be shrouded in dark clouds, and there was no sunshine anymore.

She was immersed in the longing and grief for her husband all day long. The laughter and joy of the past gradually disappeared, and were replaced by endless depression.

This heavy blow, like an inescapable dark force, completely dragged down her body and mind.

In the end, she could not bear the pain and followed Lin Jun, leaving the young Lin Zhiyue alone in this world.

Looking back at the family past of this body, Lin Zhiyue's grandparents only have one son, Lin Jun.

In this era full of traditional ideas, the Lin family devoted all their efforts to this only son.

As their only granddaughter, Lin Zhiyue was the apple of everyone's eye.

Her grandparents' love for her is reflected in every detail of their lives.

On summer nights, grandma would hold a palm-leaf fan and gently drive away mosquitoes for Lin Zhiyue while she was sleeping. The cool breeze, accompanied by grandma's gentle humming, became the warmest memory of her childhood.

In winter, Grandpa would get up early and go to the market to pick the freshest ingredients, just to make a bowl of steaming, sweet and delicious rice porridge for Lin Zhiyue.

However, the trajectory of fate is always full of uncertainty.

In my early years, my grandparents passed away one after another.

Their departure was like taking away the two most important pillars from Lin Zhiyue's world, instantly making the warmth of this family less than half.

Today, when Lin Zhiyue is sorting out her memories, those beautiful scenes of getting along with her grandparents keep playing in her mind like slides, but now, only memories remain, which makes her sigh.

Lin Zhiyue's grandparents, because they were forced to do heavy physical labor all year round, developed many health problems. Eventually, under the attack of the disease and the pressure of life, their bodies could no longer support them and they passed away one after another.

Today, Lin Zhiyue is like a lonely boat that has lost its direction in the vast ocean, with no relatives to rely on anymore.

At that moment, her world seemed to be left with only endless loneliness and confusion. She truly became an orphan, facing an unknown life alone in this difficult era.

Under the heavy blow of the successive deaths of his parents, Lin Zhiyue in the 1970s was like a body with his soul taken away, wandering in a daze between the past and the present.

Her world was completely swallowed up by darkness in a short period of time. Her parents' voices, smiles, and appearances still often appeared clearly in her mind, but now, she can no longer truly touch their warm embrace.

During the day, she looked dazed, mechanically repeating some simple actions, with empty eyes, as if she was oblivious to everything around her.

At night, when everything was quiet, loneliness and sadness overwhelmed her like a tide, and her tears always soaked her pillow unconsciously.

Immersed in this extreme grief for a long time, her health deteriorated and her immunity dropped sharply.

Finally, on a stormy night, the cruel hand of fate reached out to her again.

Her body began to feel hot. At first it was just slightly warm, but as time went on, the temperature grew higher and higher, and her consciousness gradually became blurred.

Suffering from a high fever, she fell into a semi-comatose state, sometimes murmuring her parents' names and sometimes groaning in pain.

The simple adobe house at home was crumbling under the beating of wind and rain, and she inside the house was also fighting a difficult battle with the disease.

Her temperature continued to rise, but no one was there to take care of her, no one could offer her a glass of water or a cold towel.

Her body became weaker and weaker, and finally, under the ravages of the high fever, the fire of her life was quietly extinguished like a candle in the wind.

At the same moment, time and space seemed to be intertwined in some mysterious way.

Lin Zhiyue, who was far away in another time and space, felt dizzy and his consciousness gradually blurred in the chaos. When he regained consciousness, he had already traveled into this body, replacing the original owner who died of a high fever.
