Chapter 23 Entering the Mountains

When she arrived at the foot of the mountain, the scene before her made her heart warm.

I saw that the villagers had been waiting here for a long time, and everyone had a bright smile on their face. That smile was like the rising sun in the morning, full of hope and vitality.

Mrs. Zhang was wearing a cloth shirt that was a little bleached from washing but very clean, she had a neat ponytail, a dark apron tied around her waist, and a backpack on her back that was brand new and shiny. She was having a lively discussion with Aunt Li beside her.

"Aunt Li, how many herbs do you think we can collect today?" Mrs. Zhang's eyes sparkled with anticipation.

Aunt Li patted her backpack and said with a smile, "That must be a lot. If we follow Yueyue, are we afraid that we won't be able to pick good herbs?"

Although Aunt Zhao is old, she is in good spirits. She is leaning on a homemade wooden cane and has a small backpack next to her, which is neatly filled with various herb-collecting tools.

She looked at the mountains and forests in the distance and murmured to herself, "I didn't expect that at my age, I could still earn some money for my family. This is all thanks to Yueyue."

The young girls were like a group of happy little birds, chirping non-stop.

They were wearing bright clothes, carrying colorful baskets, holding small hoes in their hands, and their eyes were full of curiosity and excitement.

"I heard there are a lot of herbs in the mountains. We must pick more today."

"Yes, yes, maybe we can find some rare species."

When the villagers saw Lin Zhiyue coming, they gathered around and greeted her enthusiastically. "Yueyue, we are all ready!"

"We're just waiting for you to take us up the mountain!" Everyone's voice was full of enthusiasm, and their momentum was high and heroic, as if they were about to rush to an important battle.

Lin Zhiyue looked at the scene in front of her, feeling an indescribable emotion in her heart.

She took a deep breath and said loudly: "Uncles, aunts, grandpas, aunts, and sisters, let's go! Let's start today's herb-picking journey together and work hard for a better life for our village!" The villagers responded one after another, took firm steps, and followed Lin Zhiyue into the depths of the forest.

Lin Zhiyue stood in front of everyone, with an upright posture and firm and bright eyes.

She looked around at the villagers' expectant but slightly confused faces, took a deep breath, and said loudly: "Fellow villagers, we are about to start today's herb-picking trip. In order to make this trip more efficient and orderly, we have to divide into teams first. Each team will have ten people, and then everyone will select a captain from each team. The captain is responsible for organizing the people in his team, ensuring everyone's safety, and urging everyone to work hard."

The villagers heard this and began to talk among themselves. "This team has a good idea. Otherwise, it would be a mess and nothing would get done."

"Yes, I need a captain to lead me, so I can feel at ease."

Lin Zhiyue continued, "Divide the teams equally. I will teach each team one type of herb. Why do I do this? Because there are many types of herbs in the mountains. It's easy to get confused if I teach everyone all of them at once. Each team can focus on learning one type. Everyone can remember it more clearly, and it will be easier to pick herbs. It can also save time and improve efficiency. The sooner we finish picking, the sooner we can sell the herbs, and everyone can get the money sooner."

After listening to Lin Zhiyue's explanation, everyone nodded with a look of sudden enlightenment on their faces.

"Oh, Yueyue, you are so thoughtful. This is indeed more reasonable."

"That's right, just do as she says, it's absolutely right."

So the villagers took quick action.

Everyone started to form teams spontaneously, you pulled me and I pulled you, and soon we were divided into three small teams.

In each team, everyone began to elect a captain.

Uncle Zhang is a warm-hearted person who works reliably. In the first team, everyone unanimously nominated him to be the captain.

Uncle Zhang patted his chest and assured: "Don't worry, I will lead our team well and let everyone pick good herbs."

The second team nominated Brother Li, who was young and strong and familiar with the roads in the mountains. He smiled and said, "I will definitely lead everyone to search carefully in the mountains and collect more valuable herbs."

The third team selected Aunt Zhao. Although she is old, she is meticulous and has a good memory.

Aunt Zhao smiled and said, "Children, follow me, let's go step by step and pick the herbs."

After being divided into teams and selecting team leaders, the villagers stood neatly in three rows, all looking at Lin Zhiyue, waiting for her next instructions.

"Okay, let's go into the mountains!" Lin Zhiyue raised his arm and gave the order with an excited look. His voice was clear and powerful, echoing among the mountains.

She first turned her gaze to the members of the first team, with a gentle and determined smile on her face, and said, "Come on, members of the first team, follow me."

The team members immediately followed Lin Zhiyue in high spirits, with brisk and orderly steps, and everyone's eyes showed concentration and anticipation.

Lin Zhiyue led everyone to a sunny hillside, squatted down, and gently pushed aside a clump of weeds, and a plant of Astragalus appeared in front of everyone.

"Look everyone, this is astragalus." Lin Zhiyue said as he carefully cleared some of the soil around the astragalus so that everyone could see its full appearance more clearly.

Astragalus has thick roots with a light brown skin. The main root is deeply embedded in the soil. The slender stems are covered with alternate leaves with irregular small teeth on the edges. "Astragalus has many benefits. It can replenish qi and strengthen the exterior. It is a very good herb for those who are prone to shortness of breath and sweating. It can also promote diuresis, expel toxins, discharge pus, heal sores and promote tissue regeneration. It has always been very popular in pharmacies and the price is not bad."
