Chapter 83: Rehabilitation

During the days Lin Zhiyue spent in the village, she happily helped her family pack their luggage and looked forward to the upcoming life in Kyoto.

She and her family reminisced about the past and imagined the future, and their days were warm and comfortable.

It was an afternoon when the sun was shining brightly and Lin Zhiyue was basking in the sun in the yard.

Suddenly, the sound of a car engine broke the silence of the village.

Three army green jeeps slowly drove into the village, their bodies glowing with a cold, hard luster in the sunlight.

Uncle Zhang, who was hoeing the ground, was the first to stop what he was doing. He straightened up, put his hands on his head, and looked in the direction where the sound came from.

I saw three army green jeeps slowly driving along the village road.

This sudden scene made him stand there in a daze, and he even forgot to put down his hoe.

The news spread quickly in the village like a gust of wind.

The originally quiet courtyard suddenly became lively. The doors of every household creaked. The villagers put down their farm tools and housework, poked their heads out of their own courtyards, with surprise written on their faces.

Aunt Li was still holding a handful of green vegetables in her hand. She didn't care about the water stains on her apron. She hurried to the door, her mouth slightly open, and murmured: "What's going on? In our small village, even a small car is rare. Why are there so many cars suddenly?"

Uncle Wang also walked out shakily, leaning on a cane, his brows furrowed and looking puzzled.

Everyone gathered together, whispering and talking.

Some people speculated that it was a leader's inspection, while others wondered if something big had happened in the village.

Various speculations circulated among the crowd, and the atmosphere became increasingly tense and curious.

The children were so excited that they ran and chased the car like a group of happy deer.

Little Tiger ran the fastest, shouting as he ran: "Wow, big car! Big car!"

There was an innocent smile on his face and a curious gleam in his eyes.

The other children were not to be outdone. They chattered and looked into the car, wanting to find out what was going on.

Shunzi, a clever fellow in the village, widened his eyes when he saw the three majestic jeeps, knowing that something big must be happening.

He spread his legs and ran like a gust of wind towards the captain's house, shouting at the top of his voice: "Captain, it's bad, there are several military vehicles in the village!"

The team leader, who was repairing farm tools in the yard, heard the urgent call and paused, a flash of surprise flashed across his face. He then put down his tools and strode out to greet them. "Don't be impatient, take your time, what's going on?"

Shunzi ran up to the captain, panting, wiped the sweat off his forehead with his hand, and said excitedly: "Several military vehicles, so impressive, parked in the middle of the village, many soldiers got off!"

When the captain heard this, his expression changed and he quickly rushed towards the direction of the convoy.

When he arrived, he saw several tall soldiers standing next to the car.

The captain stepped forward quickly, with a simple smile on his face, and said loudly: "Comrade, I am the captain of this village, welcome to our village. May I ask what brings you here?"

A tall soldier stepped forward, his posture straight as a pine tree, raised his hand and saluted in a standard military salute. His movements were crisp and clear, his eyes were firm and focused under his military cap, and his voice was loud and clear: "Hello, comrade captain, I am Li Qiang, a lieutenant in a certain army unit. This time, I came to your village under the order of my superiors to pick up Mu Xuejun, Bai Yuejin, Lin Weidong and three couples and Lin Lang and seven people to return to Beijing for report. Please help us find them as soon as possible, we are in a hurry."

After that, he took out a document with a bright red seal from his jacket pocket and handed it to the captain. Although the paper of the document was smooth, the edges were slightly worn, which was enough to show the haste and twists and turns of the journey.

The captain took the document and examined it carefully with a serious expression, his eyes moving back and forth between the neat lines of handwriting and the bright red seal.

After a moment, he raised his head, his face full of understanding, and his tone was a little apologetic: "Lieutenant Li, I'm sorry, the people you are looking for were arranged to be renovated in the cowshed due to some circumstances. I will take you there now."

After saying that, the captain turned around and walked quickly while shouting at the villagers: "Er Gouzi, Zhuzi, the rest of you, come over and give me a hand!"

Lieutenant Li Qiang nodded slightly in thanks, and quickly caught up with several soldiers behind him.

Along the way, the men, women, young and old in the village looked at the team curiously and whispered to each other. The children followed behind with curiosity and excitement in their eyes.

Soon, everyone arrived in front of the cowshed. The captain shouted at the top of his voice: "Mu Xuejun, Lin Weidong, the rest of you come out quickly, someone from Kyoto is here to pick you up!"

Hearing the shouts, Mu Xuejun and others walked out of the cowshed, their eyes full of surprise and confusion.

Lieutenant Li Qiang stepped forward and saluted again, then said, "Mr. Mu, Mr. Lin, and all comrades, we are following the orders of our superiors to take you back to Beijing. We apologize for all the suffering you have endured over the years."

Mu Xuejun's eyes were slightly red, and he was so excited that he couldn't speak. He just held Li Qiang's hand tightly.

Lin Weidong breathed a sigh of relief, with a relieved smile on his face: "I have finally waited for this day."

At this time, someone in the crowd whispered: "It turns out they were wronged. No wonder they don't look like bad people."

"That's good now. I can go back to Kyoto. I'm sure I've cleared my name."

Lieutenant Li Qiang looked at the captain and said sincerely, "Captain, thanks for your help this time. After we finish dealing with things here, I'll have to trouble you to help arrange for them to say goodbye to the villagers."
