Chapter 28 I Want to Break Off the Engagement

Li Fen tried to grab Zheng Xinyue with her claws and teeth, but Zheng Xinyue held her body tightly, making her unable to move at all.

"You all are so capable now that you don't even take an old woman like me seriously. Zheng Xinyi, if it weren't for your grandfather, do you think the Cheng family would have taken a fancy to you?" Li Fen began to attack Zheng Xinyi with words.

At first, Zheng Xinyi pretended not to hear and didn't intend to argue with her, but Li Fen kept talking, becoming increasingly harsh. Finally, she couldn't control herself anymore and, with a little force, pushed Li Fen onto a chair to the side. "Do you think I'm willing to marry into the Cheng family? Today, I'm telling you, don't keep using this marriage to pressure me. I don't even want it."

"What did you say?" Li Fen thought there was something wrong with her ears. She sat on the chair, her eyes wide open, staring at Zheng Xinyi. At this moment, when she shouted this sentence, the lobby had become quiet. Everyone looked at her, waiting for her next words.

Zheng Xinyi hesitated for a moment, knowing that now was not the time to talk about this, but the marriage was imminent and she had already spoken. In this case, she might as well do it now and say what she had been holding in her heart.

"I said I don't want to marry Cheng Haoyu." Zheng Xinyi said every word seriously.

"Say what you just said again." Zheng Shaochun asked with a gloomy face as he hunched over and struggled to walk out of the inner room.

Zheng Xinyue and Cuihua quickly reached out to support him, while Zheng Xinwei kept winking at them, signaling them to stop talking.

Zheng Xinyi paused, frowned slightly, and then raised her head: "Dad, actually, I have been wanting to talk to you about breaking off the engagement these past few days, but there has never been a suitable opportunity."

"Xinyi, are you crazy?" Cuihua's eyes immediately turned red and she shouted at her excitedly.

"Mom, I'm not crazy. I'm serious." Zheng Xinyi looked very serious.

Yingzi raised the corner of her mouth with a smile. "Xinyi, you really need to think this through. Cheng Haoyu is one of the most handsome guys in the village, both in appearance and character. He's also a soldier, and at such a young age he's already become a battalion commander. How many girls would want to marry him? And you're actually calling it off?"

Zheng Shaodong nudged her with his elbow, signaling her to speak less.

"Xinyi, if you want to cancel the engagement, I'll have to die." Zheng Shaochun's facial features became distorted, his eyes were wide open, and he looked like he meant what he said.

"Dad, if you really love me..."

Zheng Shaochun immediately made a stop gesture: "Stop talking, Xinyi, I can follow your lead in everything, but this matter is not up to you."

Zheng Shaochun's palms were sweaty due to the severe back pain and Zheng Xinyi's anger. Cuihua didn't have time to pay attention to anyone in the lobby: "Shaochun, I'll ask Xinwei to get Doctor Gao for you. You go inside and rest first. I'll take care of Xinyi's matter."

Then he gave Zheng Xinyue a look, and the two of them carefully helped him into the inner room.

Zheng Xinyi frowned slightly and slumped down on the stool with a helpless look on her face. The lobby became completely quiet. Everyone's attention was on Zheng Xinyi, and they had completely forgotten the quarrel that had just happened.

Zheng Xinwei took a step forward and wanted to persuade her, but was directly blocked by Zheng Xinyi: "Brother, go get a doctor for Dad! I want to be alone for a while."
