By the time Zheng Xinyi walked out of the military hospital, it was already late.
"Xinyi, Captain Cheng didn't come to pick you up?" Huang Lei looked at the entrance of the army and saw no one there. He asked worriedly, "How about I take you home?"
"No need. You're tired after a day. Go back and rest. Is Yue Nan not back yet?" Zheng Xinyi asked.
"How can it be so fast? I think it will take at least three days to come back!" Huang Lei responded with a slightly worried tone.
"Don't worry! Yue Nan will be fine." Zheng Xinyi saw his little thoughts and spoke to comfort her.
Huang Lei raised the corners of his mouth slightly and nodded slowly.
After Huang Lei left, Zheng Xinyi sighed softly and returned home with some tired steps.
At this moment, Cheng Haoyu was still immersed in a sweet dream. It was not until the door was pushed open that he suddenly woke up and sat up from the bed at lightning speed.
"Haoyu, was my voice too loud and woke you up?" Zheng Xinyi frowned slightly, speaking with a guilty tone.
Cheng Haoyu glanced at the dark sky, then at Zheng Xinyi standing beside him. He felt as if he had slept like a fool and rubbed his eyes. "What time is it already?"
When his eyes fell on the old-fashioned clock hanging on the wall, he was suddenly shocked: "Oh my God! It's already past nine o'clock in the evening. How long have I slept? I actually forgot to pick you up and forgot to cook for you."
"Haoyu, you are really too tired. Besides, I am not a child who can't find home by myself." Zheng Xinyi sat beside him and responded with a smile.
"Xinyi, you must not have eaten yet! Wait here for a moment, I'll make it for you." As he spoke, Cheng Haoyu had already put on his shoes, stood up and went into the kitchen.
Zheng Xinyi smiled faintly at his back, and soon fell silent again.
A moment later, Cheng Haoyu came out of the kitchen carrying two plates of side dishes and white rice, and called softly to Zheng Xinyi who was sitting on the bed, "Wife, it's time to eat."
After not seeing Zheng Xinyi's reaction for a long time, he looked over and saw that she looked very worried and was in a daze. He took off his apron, slowly walked to Xinyi, and held her hand: "Wife, what's wrong with you? Are you not feeling well? Or are you worried about something?"
"Today I saw with my own eyes two soldiers, their flesh and blood flying everywhere after being blown to pieces by a bomb. I wanted to save them, but I was powerless. I could only watch them die in front of me. I was really sad at the time and felt that I, a military doctor, was really useless." Zheng Xinyi's tone was full of self-blame, and the appearance of the two deceased soldiers vaguely appeared in her mind.
"Xinyi, there are bullets flying on the battlefield, and many people die every day. Those soldiers who died on the battlefield fought for the motherland, for the people, and for victory. They are all great heroes and they are all great. Facing this era of constant war, each of us is helpless, so their deaths are not caused by you. You don't need to blame yourself, and you don't need to embarrass yourself like this." Cheng Haoyu held her in his arms and comforted her from the bottom of his heart.
"Haoyu, you are so nice." Zheng Xinyi lay in his arms and responded softly.
"Okay, it's getting late. Let's go eat quickly and rest early after dinner." Cheng Haoyu pulled her to sit at the dining table, served the rice, and put a piece of rapeseed in her bowl: "Eat more."
