Chapter 1 Strange Family
The spacious first-class cabin was very quiet. The cabin was not full. A little Asian girl with black hair and black eyes was quietly holding an exquisite Barbie doll that was one size smaller than her.
The brown-haired white woman sitting next to her was helping her adjust her seat so that she would be more comfortable for the long flight ahead.
It was Zhang Wei's first time flying first class. She glanced at the cabin calmly. A pair of blue eyes next to her met her gaze gently, paying close attention to her movements. She didn't have much experience in pretending to be a child, so she had to turn her head and look out the window.
As the plane rose, the ground became farther and farther away, and she was about to leave China. Looking at the buildings gradually disappearing in the distance, Zhang Wei still felt that the current situation was a bit magical.
Whether in her previous life or this life, she had never been abroad. In fact, the only communication she had with foreigners in her previous life was with the foreign teachers at school.
Until the day before yesterday, she had her hand scratched while trying to hold on to a steamed bun. God knows how horrified she was when she opened her eyes yesterday morning and saw an enlarged bearded foreigner's face.
Originally, Zhang Wei just wanted to find a place to eat, but he didn't expect to end up on the other side of the world. However, this story has to start from three months ago...
“Ah! Ah—”
Hearing the noise, Zhang Wei turned his body to the side despite wearing a mask. Although the effect was better than nothing, it at least gave him some psychological comfort.
This was already the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth time that the flatterer across from him had sneezed. Zhang Wei, unable to bear it any longer, threw a mask over and said, "If I call in sick tomorrow, I'll say it was you who spread the disease on purpose!"
Although Ma Pi Lu was a little dissatisfied, he still put on the mask. It was not that Zhang Wei was mean, but there were really a lot of people with Eryang recently. Zhang Wei had a fever for a week last time, which was really a disaster for someone living alone.
Zhang Wei tightened his nose and put on the mask. Just as he breathed a sigh of relief, he felt a chill on his body and had an ominous premonition in his heart.
Sure enough, she had a fever as soon as she got home. She took an ibuprofen and fell into a deep sleep.
When she opened her eyes a crack with a splitting headache, she saw a hideous old woman pouring medicine into her...
Although Zhang Wei was somewhat conscious at this time, his whole body was limp and he could only clench his teeth. The porcelain bowl hit his teeth as it came closer. This action seemed to anger the old woman, and she slapped Zhang Wei hard, "crackling", which was very painful.
"Hiss—" Zhang Wei gasped. What was going on? Did a robber break into her house to steal her money and kill her? She remembered that the door was locked and the key was in the door. Wasn't it said that no one could pry it open?
"Help—uh—"
She was about to call for help when the bowl was thrown at her again. The muddy-smelling water filled her mouth, making it impossible for her to breathe. She could only swallow desperately. When she had swallowed it completely, her head was dropped heavily. Zhang Wei felt a headache and lost consciousness again.
Zhang Wei woke up again because she was hungry and she smelled the smell of food.
Unexpectedly, when she opened her eyes, she saw not the familiar orchid chandelier, but a wooden roof with spider webs and dust clearly visible on it!
Zhang Wei closed her eyes again and thought about the old woman who had fed her medicine before. Could it be that she was robbed and trafficked when she was sick?
She was so scared that cold sweat broke out on her back and she didn't dare to open her eyes. After a while, she prepared herself mentally before opening her eyes again.
She moved her hands and feet and felt no sense of restraint except for a dull pain. But when she held her hand in front of her eyes, she was shocked - was this dirty, small hand really hers?
When Zhang Wei found it difficult to get out of bed, she realized that she had turned into a five or six-year-old child...
It seems that the child died of a fever, and she herself died of a fever. As a result, she ended up here, and that damn flatterer Lu, she will scold him to death when she goes back!
There was also a black bunk bed in the room, with several large puddings on the mosquito net. There was also a strange smell in the room, and there were not even any shoes under her wooden bed...
It looks like I'm destined to be a poor person in this life.
The growling sound in her stomach reminded Zhang Wei that she was hungry, so she had no choice but to follow the smell of food out of the room.
The ground was still a little cold under his bare feet. He hadn't walked more than two meters into the corridor when he heard the clatter of dishes and chopsticks. When Zhang Wei reached the door, he saw three people eating.
The old woman who looked fierce was the one who had poured mud water into her mouth before. Sitting at the top was a middle-aged man who looked very much like her. He had slightly bulging eyes with a hint of fierceness and a fat body, which made the young woman next to him look very petite.
When Zhang Wei turned his gaze to the woman, he was immediately surprised. She was very beautiful, and she was totally out of place in this dilapidated house and the people around her.
She had a delicate oval face and big, bright eyes. Although her skin was slightly yellow and her clothes were worn and dull, it did not detract from her beauty at all. At this moment, she was serving the man food with a submissive look on her face.
Perhaps Zhang Wei's gaze was too focused, and the three people who were eating noticed her in less than a moment, but their reactions were beyond Zhang Wei's expectations.
The beautiful woman's eyes only swept over her quickly, without a trace of emotion, and she continued to concentrate on adding more food to the man's plate; the man also just glanced at her and continued eating. Only the old woman was cursing at something, and when she saw that Zhang Wei didn't respond, she yelled a few more times.
Zhang Wei couldn't understand the dialect from somewhere, but she didn't intend to go against her stomach, so she walked to the table and saw an empty porridge bowl, a bowl with two boiled sweet potatoes, half a bowl of cabbage and half a bowl of some black dried vegetables.
She picked up the sweet potato and started eating. When she finished one and was about to take the second one, "bang!" Zhang Wei's outstretched hand was hit hard by the chopsticks, and she shrank in pain.
The couple had finished their meal and left the table without even looking at Zhang Wei. However, Zhang Wei was not the type to accept things passively. She was still hungry.
She took advantage of the time when the old woman was collecting the bowls, quickly reached out and grabbed the last sweet potato, and ran out the door as the old woman started cursing...
She almost couldn't stop herself as she ran out. A few more steps and she would have died...
It turned out that the house was built on the edge of a cliff, and there was a deep valley below. The bottom could not be seen due to the fog, but it looked dangerous enough.
There was no fence around the yard. Zhang Wei was afraid of heights, so he took several steps back before he dared to look forward carefully. However, he was caught by the old woman and slapped a few times.
After beating her, he dragged her to a kitchen that looked like a woodshed, pointed at a pile of bowls and said something, apparently asking her to wash them. Zhang Wei saw that she had no status in this family, so she just treated it as a way to earn a living, squatted down and started washing them silently...
While washing, Zhang Wei was wondering: Is this body the child of this family? When she saw the reflection in the dishwashing water, she immediately solved the doubt.
The little girl looks about 50% like the woman, except for her eyes. Her eyes have thin double eyelids and look a little cold. Her nose and mouth are also similar.
Could it be that the man was not her biological father? Judging from his and the old woman's attitude towards her, perhaps her guess was right.
However, after Zhang Wei followed the woman to the river to wash clothes, her guess was overturned.
