Chapter 110 Challenge
Because there are almost no individual sports in German's physical education classes, every afternoon, apart from one cultural class, the next two hours of classes are physical education classes.
There were four compulsory physical education courses, and Zhang Wei felt dizzy when she saw them. Almost all of them were balls: rugby, football, cricket and rowing. Anyway, she had never touched any of them.
There is one sport every day. Friday afternoon is the physical education elective class. There are more than 20 sports to choose from. Zhang Wei had learned equestrianism and baseball before. She decided to choose one of these two to reduce the pressure.
Zhang Wei’s first day of physical education class was about something that doesn’t sound very Western at all – cricket.
Only she and Alia had cricket class in their physical education class today, while the other roommates had other subjects.
They had to change clothes in the locker room first. Zhang Wei found a corner inside, and Alia found an empty cabinet next to her to put her things.
In order to prevent more people from coming in, Zhang Wei quickly began to take off her clothes, and then the sound of whispers sounded behind them.
"Why is she so white? She doesn't look Asian."
"She must have used some product, her face isn't fair."
Zhang Wei felt that her hearing must be too good. Damn, she was still naked and it was not suitable for her to have a quarrel. They even talked about her tanned face.
"Oh my god, the one next to him is whiter, isn't he Indian?"
"It is said that Asians like to have white skin, so they use some methods."
Their focus shifted to Alia again. Zhang Wei saw her take off the golden badge and pin it on her sportswear, and did the same thing as her.
Zhang Wei looked at Alia and asked her if she was feeling okay. When she nodded, he locked the cabinet and went to the playground.
When passing by the two gossipers, Zhang Wei stopped and said to Alia behind him:
"What's that smell? Do you smell it? It's awful!"
As he said this, he fanned his nose in disgust.
Alia cooperated and said, "It really smells bad. Let's get out of here!"
When the two girls reacted, their expressions immediately became distorted with anger.
When they arrived at the gathering place on the playground, she and Alia naturally stood together.
"Have you ever fought before?"
This was the first sentence Alia said to Zhang Wei. She had just smiled at her when they met before. Zhang Wei even doubted whether the Indian girl who winked at her in the restaurant was her.
"Never." Zhang Wei shook her head. She felt like she had heard of it before, but also like she hadn't. The name of this sport was a bit simple.
The coach came over immediately, gathered everyone together and told them that she would first select two captains, and then the captains would choose their own team members.
Zhang Wei and Alia exchanged a glance, immediately seeing the worry in each other's eyes. If neither of them could become captain, they would probably be in dire straits...
Apart from the coach, the captain has absolute authority in the team. She can ask you to clean the court or assign you the worst position.
However, the following words gave them a glimmer of hope. The coach would choose the captain based on the upcoming tryout session.
It would be better if they could just vote for the candidate, Zhang Wei thought. With 2 to 20, there is simply no chance of winning.
Zhang Wei looked at the batting board and ball on the ground. Why did they look familiar?
After the coach's demonstration, it was proved that Zhang Wei's feeling was correct. The playing styles of cricket and baseball are really similar.
The pitcher pitches, the batter hits, and the fielder defends. The scoring method is simpler. The farther the ball is hit, the higher the score. The batsman is tested on his hand-eye coordination, reaction, and strength.
After watching the coach briefly demonstrate the key points, she began to have all the students form teams of two, and then choose opponents to take turns attacking and defending.
To be honest, the coach's approach obviously benefits students who have studied cricket before. Cricket should be a mainstream sport in the UK, so if you are studying in other countries, the possibility of learning it is relatively small.
Facing Alia's somewhat uneasy eyes, Zhang Wei said soothingly:
"Don't worry, we may not lose!"
"Are you strong?"
"Big brother, my brother can never take things away from me."
"That's good. Are you fast?"
"Of course, that's why my mom never caught up with me!"
As she spoke, she laughed, very beautifully and brilliantly.
Then, while waiting, the two of them squatted on the edge of the court, analyzing the movements of others. Zhang Wei, who was half-baked, taught her some force techniques, and then she took out the equipment and tried to practice with two balls.
"You're really good at hitting! Have you really never practiced?"
"Fake"
"Ah, didn't you say you never fought?"
“I’ve played other games.”
When Alia pitched the ball to Zhang Wei, only the first two went off target. After that, she grasped the pattern and tried to hit the place with a crack in the middle of the ball, so that the ball would lose balance and knock down the wicket. This is the biggest difference from baseball, and points can be scored by knocking down the wicket.
Although Alia has been praising Wei, she herself has good athletic ability. She can indeed run fast and has great strength. Although her reaction is not that fast, it is already very good for a novice.
"Vera, with you here, we shouldn't have to worry too much."
When Zhang Wei hit another ball, Alia said relaxedly.
"What are you worried about?"
At this moment, a less polite voice suddenly interrupted.
Zhang Wei put away the racket and stopped, and Alia immediately ran to her side, as if facing a great enemy.
"Are the outstanding people worried about losing to us ordinary people in cricket? Haha."
An arrogant white girl who looked somewhat familiar walked up to Zhang Wei and the others with two followers.
But the one who spoke was not this girl, but the brown-haired girl with makeup behind her.
Zhang Wei still remembers these two people. They were the ones who played the princess and the maid in the examination room on the day of the entrance examination. The princess seemed to be called Eugenie, and the exaggerated maid was called Jenny.
They tied their hair up, and Zhang Wei didn't notice them just now.
"Are you here to challenge me?"
Zhang Wei pointed at them with the racket with a cold face.
Jenny, who was smiling exaggeratedly at first, froze on her face and looked at Eugenie for help.
Zhang Wei had previously recognized Jenny's American accent and concluded that it was unlikely that she could play cricket.
Before Eugenie could say anything, Zhang Wei continued:
"What? Are you afraid of the Exalted?"
"Oh! So you're just talking big. No wonder you can't wear the Medal of Excellence!"
This finally touched Eugenie's sensitive nerves. She took a deep breath and said contemptuously:
"Looking at your clumsy moves, I didn't bother bullying you before, but since you've asked me to, I'll show you that not everyone can master Britain's national sport!"
