Chapter 124 Shopping 1
Zhang Wei felt a little sorry when she heard Emma mention Paris and the others. To be honest, she really didn't think of them for a while, so she went to her room immediately after dinner to turn on the computer and log in to her email, only to find that there were more than a dozen unread emails in her inbox.
Half of them were financial reports on the company's dividends that Ryan sent her. He sent one report every three months, and that had accumulated to a lot.
The money Zhang Wei borrowed from Charles to donate money had already been paid back long ago. It was tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and hundreds of thousands... Zhang Wei counted the zeros at the end. Although she couldn't say that she had achieved financial freedom, at least she didn't have to worry about having no money to spend, and their previous bookstore was still earning her pocket money.
It just so happens that she will definitely have to spend money when shopping tomorrow, so she should bring some extra money with her to feel more confident.
The other half of the emails were sent to her by Paris, Dora and Grace, and they were all sent a week after school started, which made Zhang Wei seem too excessive.
So Zhang Wei felt a little guilty and sorry that she still hadn't developed the habit of checking her emails regularly. She didn't realize it until almost a month later, and Dora had sent her two emails.
Although mobile phones can also send text messages, people abroad still prefer to send emails, mainly because there is no limit on the length of the email and it appears more formal.
Zhang Wei hadn’t used it much in Country A before, so he actually forgot about it for a while.
Dora told her that the school in Switzerland was not as good as the one in Tifield. The school was built on the mountainside and there were almost no people living around it, but it could see the snow-capped mountains and the scenery was beautiful. The only problem was that there were no friends as close to her as she was.
The second letter was to tell Zhang Wei that she had met a Chinese classmate like her. Although they didn't get along well, seeing her reminded her of Zhang Wei.
Zhang Wei was so moved by this that she almost cried. She immediately took out her phone and dialed the number in the email:
"Hello, this is Dora Iverson"
"Dora, it's me!"
Hearing Dora's familiar voice, Zhang Wei said hurriedly.
"Ahhh! Vera, you finally saw the email!" Dora seemed super excited.
"I'm sorry, Dora. I was so busy I forgot. It's my fault."
Zhang Wei seriously admitted her mistake, and they talked for two hours. Before reluctantly hanging up the phone, they agreed to call each other when they had time on the weekend to prevent Zhang Wei from forgetting to check her email again.
Paris simply talked about his current school situation and then asked about her recent situation.
Grace's email was longer than Dora's two emails combined. Zhang Wei suspected that she was writing a diary and sharing with her every detail of what had happened since school started.
After replying to all the emails, Zhang Wei saw that it was already past eleven o'clock. If Betty was there, she would definitely come and knock on her door. She hadn't seen this responsible housekeeper for a long time.
Emma said that Charles couldn't leave the company for the time being, so Betty needed to help Charles take care of his daily life. Because Emma was often in London, she couldn't help Charles.
Zhang Wei actually didn't agree with the couple being separated for too long. Charles's time here was limited, but Emma was reluctant to leave her children, so she spent most of her time in London.
So Zhang Wei decided to discuss with Namir to go back home less often on weekends in the future. That way, Emma would not stay in London all the time and could spend more time with her husband in Country A. She believed that Namir would readily agree.
On Saturday, Zhang Wei woke up at around seven o'clock even though he didn't set the alarm. There was nothing he could do about it as his biological clock had already been formed.
Zhang Wei had only been to London once and was almost robbed, so she was deeply skeptical about the security in London. So this time she only carried a small decorative bag with some coins in it, and put the rest of her cards and a few fifty-pound notes in the pockets of her plaid skirt. She wore a thin windbreaker on the outside to cover them up.
It rained yesterday and it’s cloudy again today. No wonder the British like to discuss the weather. After all, there are more than 200 rainy days a year, so the chance of guessing wrong is very small.
Besides, the British really don't like to use umbrellas, but Zhang Wei could never do such a stupid thing as walking slowly in the rain without an umbrella when it was raining heavily.
So she thought about it and decided to carry a small backpack with an umbrella in it.
The meeting place was chosen by Butch, in a cafe next to Brick Lane in East London. Emma just reminded her to be careful and asked the driver to take her there.
Unexpectedly, there were many shops there and the road was narrow, so the car couldn't drive through. Zhang Wei got out of the car and walked for a while before finding the cafe.
The feeling of walking alone on an unfamiliar street was quite magical. It seemed that she had never gone shopping alone in all the years she had been abroad. You know, she often did everything alone in her previous life.
Walking alone on the bustling streets of a foreign country, she deeply felt that she was indeed a passer-by and that she would eventually return to the land she was familiar with.
It was already 10:40 when Zhang Wei arrived at the cafe, ten minutes late for the agreed time. She thought everyone had arrived, but unexpectedly, only Tracy and Alia were there. They didn't seem to be talking. When Alia saw Zhang Wei come in, she felt like she had seen a savior.
"Sorry I'm late. Have you been here long?"
“No, I just arrived not long ago.”
"Alia and I met at the door."
There were still more than half of the people who hadn't arrived yet, so they could only wait. Seeing that they hadn't ordered anything to drink, Zhang Wei asked:
"Would you like anything to drink? It's a bit cold outside. I'd like a glass of hot milk."
Tracy agreed: "Yes, it's a good choice."
"Alia?" "Then I want hot milk too!"
Then Zhang Wei called the waitress over to place their order. Unexpectedly, the chubby waitress kept trying to sell them hot cocoa because they were young:
"The hot cocoa in our store is amazing, it's sweet and rich, and there's no girl who wouldn't like it. You can try it."
Alia and Tracy didn't say anything, just looked at Zhang Wei. Zhang Wei could only try to be a social butterfly in front of these two people who were very frugal with words:
"Thank you. Excessive sugar intake is bad for your health."
The waiter seemed confused by her words: "What?"
Tracy received: "Too much sugar can promote obesity"
Alia added: "It will also accelerate aging."
Zhang Wei concluded: "So we still want three cups of hot milk, thank you."
Then the waitress left with a strange look on her face. But not far away, Zhang Wei and the others heard her shouting to her colleagues:
"Oh my God! Do you know what I encountered?"
"Three little girls, about ten years old, said hot cocoa would accelerate obesity and aging, oh my god!"
"Did they say that to me? Damn it! I'm not going to go home with three cups of hot cocoa after get off work today!"
