Chapter 129 Hayat
Zhang Wei didn't intend to deliberately win the princess's favor, but it is always nice to be recognized by others.
Apparently, their performance at the masquerade was effective. At least Zhang Wei occasionally received some invitations to events. After she arrived as scheduled, she received more invitations, and the number reached a level where she could make choices.
But she couldn't eat too much. She joined for a purpose, and she didn't have much free time, so she tried to attend only once a week.
Gradually, the atmosphere in the girls' school changed. They gradually became proud of being able to invite outstanding people to participate in activities, and sometimes they would recruit members in their names. In short, they were temporarily safe in the school.
This week, Zhang Wei and Namier agreed not to go home, but when it was almost dinner time, she remembered that she had forgotten to ask the kitchen to give her an extra dinner, so she hurried downstairs as soon as she saw the time.
To her surprise, the long table in the restaurant downstairs was almost full of people.
Seeing Zhang Wei coming downstairs, the people who were preparing to eat were also surprised:
"Vera, aren't you going home?"
Zhang Wei looked around and found that everyone except her was there.
"Aren't you guys going home either? What a coincidence!"
Zhang Wei’s intuition was not simple, but he still spoke calmly.
"Guess I have to ask the kitchen if there's any extra food!"
She turned and walked towards the kitchen, feeling unhappy. She could see that Queenie looked unnatural, Butch seemed a little gloating, Alia kept her head down, and Tracy and the others looked normal.
Were they secretly isolating her? Zhang Wei didn't think that was the case. She didn't see any tendency for them to discriminate against her. Although Butch didn't have a good impression of her, she wasn't the type to control everyone's thoughts.
But the feeling of being kept in the dark is really unpleasant.
The kitchen had prepared plenty of food, and Zhang Wei successfully got a portion of roast pigeon. Although it tasted good, she was not in the mood to enjoy it. Only the sound of knives and forks could be heard in the restaurant, and the atmosphere was inexplicably quiet.
Zhang Wei returned to her room after dinner. She neither went to Alia to inquire nor asked anyone else.
If no one told her what happened in the end, she felt that she might have chosen the wrong person.
But it’s better to see it clearly now than later. After all, we have to be together for at least five years.
As for what it was, since everyone agreed not to let her know, the probability of her being able to influence the outcome was not great, so there was no point in being anxious. Moreover, at least at this stage, Zhang Wei felt that nothing major could affect her.
So she reviewed her lessons as usual in the evening. She had nothing else to do this weekend and she had plenty of time.
"Knock knock knock" there was a knock on the door. The corners of Zhang Wei's lips curled up. She walked to the door and opened it, but the person she saw surprised her a little.
"Hayat?!"
This was someone who could not help but surprise her. Before she opened the door, she thought of Alia, Queenie, and even Butch who came to ridicule her, but she never thought it was Hayat on the third floor.
She had no connection with the princess and the reading group. Until Hayat was invited in, Zhang Wei couldn't figure out why she came to see her.
"Wow! You have so many extracurricular books here? No wonder you're always at the top of the class!"
Hayat said as he looked at the three shelves of bookshelves next to Zhang Wei's desk that were already full.
Zhang Wei shrugged. "Yeah, I've always relied on hard work to win. I'm not that smart per se."
"It's unbelievable! Have you read all these books?" Hayat said, pointing to a thick introduction to physics.
"Oh, I only read the beginning. The homework took me a lot of time." Zhang Wei said matter-of-factly.
"I think you should guess why I came here," Hayat finally got to the point.
"The truth is I don't know, but that's what I wanted to ask."
"Actually, I really admire you. You are the one of my peers I admire most besides Tracy."
Zhang Wei didn't want to waste time listening to her praise the princess for the time being, so he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Thank you, it's my pleasure. Is it related to what you want to talk about today?"
"Of course, just like you told them at the dance, I prefer fair and honest victories based on strength, not tricks."
"For example, today?" Zhang Wei continued.
"Yes, for example, today." A trace of contempt flashed in Hayat's eyes.
"This matter is actually related to Professor Townsley."
Zhang Wei felt that this made sense. Only the tutor could influence everyone, but Zhang Wei felt that she had never offended her before, although Professor Townsley had always been cold to her.
She thought it was Professor Townsley's own character, didn't she?
"Of course not. You probably don't know this, but this is the second time she's asked us to come to her physics laboratory in Cambridge."
So that's how it is. Zhang Wei had heard Manny and Leda say before that their tutor often helped them with their academic problems. She thought that because they had just entered the school, Professor Townsley only held a short meeting with them once a week and assigned them some homework.
"But you're not the only one who's been excluded. Alia noticed that before, so she suddenly showed up when Professor Townsley was looking for us. Professor Townsley had no choice but to invite Alia along when she was mid-sentence."
"I should be happier if you say that," Zhang Wei forced a smile.
"What are you going to do?"
Zhang Wei was quite curious about this. To be honest, the simple optics, electricity and mechanics experiments they had learned so far were enough to be done in Dewen's physics laboratory.
"That's what I find ridiculous," Hayat said, curling her lips in a rather unladylike manner. "Watching college students conduct experiments, then listening to those self-righteous young people bragging about themselves, and then waiting for our admiring and envious gazes."
"Huh?!" Zhang Wei didn't understand the meaning of Professor Townsley's actions.
Facing Zhang Wei's puzzled look, Hayat said directly:
"She's investing. None of us has a simple identity. Even Butch's father is a city councilor."
Zhang Wei: I really don’t understand what’s going on in your upper-class society…
Hayat threw out another sentence: "I don't believe you don't know our identities, especially Tracy."
Zhang Wei: I actually don’t really want to know why it is so difficult to just study.
"Indeed, how many people in Britain are named Windsor? But it has little to do with me."
"I admire your attitude. I wouldn't mind Butch trying to get close to me!"
Zhang Wei: You are here
He was just as servile in front of Tracy.
Seeing Zhang Wei's suspicious look, Hayat quickly defended himself:
"I admire Tracy not only for her identity, but also for her abilities and her personality!"
Zhang Wei: Do you think I believe it?
