Chapter 218 Landing

Chapter 218 Landing

The next day, Zhang Wei packed her luggage and set off for Country A. Manny drove her to the airport. Although he still didn't understand why Zhang Wei had to go to Country A to study, he still said before leaving:

"In any case, I wish you success!"

"Thanks!"

Four years later, Zhang Wei set foot on American soil again.

After leaving the terminal, Zhang Wei saw a familiar young man waiting at the arrival gate. She walked over with a smile:

"How did you know which flight I was on?"

Paris said firmly: "It's not difficult. You will only take this one flight."

As he spoke, he took Zhang Wei's suitcase.

"Paris!" Zhang Wei sighed as she watched him behave. "It feels like you've matured a lot since we last met!"

"Really? I didn't think so," Paris said disapprovingly.

"You look like a reliable adult now."

"Are you saying I was childish?"

Zhang Wei saw him frowning slightly and immediately praised him: "No, no, not really, it's just that he is more charming now."

I just complained in my heart: It seems that he is not as good-tempered as before.

"I haven't thanked you yet. Thank you so much for bothering you so much with my affairs!" Zhang Wei thanked him sincerely.

"It's a rare occasion when you need help, so I'm honored to be able to help you. It doesn't take much effort, and I asked my tutor for help. He's been very good to me."

"So you don't have to say too much. By the way, where are you going to live?"

Paris drove over by himself. Zhang Wei thought his car matched his current style very well, steady and restrained.

"Back to our old home. Betty didn't want to go to London, so she stayed in the old house. She was very happy when I went back to live with her."

When Zhang Wei returned, Betty was indeed standing in the yard waiting for her. As soon as Zhang Wei got out of the car, he ran towards her and gave her a big hug.

"Oh my God! Vera, I didn't expect to see you back again!"

"Betty, I missed you so much. Are you doing well?"

Zhang Wei noticed that Betty's thick black curly hair had some silver strands, and her plump body was no longer as light as before when she walked. Zhang Wei helped her into the living room, and Paris helped her carry the luggage at the back.

Only then did she see Paris following behind her and said in surprise:

"Isn't this the kid who always brings snacks? You've grown up so much!"

These words instantly brought back Zhang Wei's previous memories. Now it was indeed difficult to connect the tall and handsome mixed-race young man in front of him with the poor little guy who stood at the door with snacks in his hand.

Paris also thought of his own dark history in childhood and could only say helplessly:

"Yes, Aunt Betty, it's me."

At noon, Aunt Betty invited Paris to have lunch together. Zhang Wei tasted the familiar flavors and her appetite improved a lot. The old chef also stayed at home, as did Uncle Chris who took care of the garden.

So when Zhang Wei came back, she immediately found many familiar feelings and felt very at ease. She needed to continue preparing for the interview.

Just as Paris said, she would definitely take this flight back because she needed to give herself enough time to prepare.

She knew where her weaknesses lay. Because she had only four years of undergraduate and graduate studies, the courses were compressed and she did not have much time to do scientific research. Therefore, the number of papers she published was limited, and some of them were second author. Even Dr. Wen's previous results gave her a signature at the end.

This time, the tutor's interview with her should also be about scientific research, wanting to see whether she is just a random name or has real talents and knowledge.

So this time, Zhang Wei brought all the relevant materials about the research she participated in, and then began to review and organize them again, striving to ensure that she could explain them clearly when asked later.

After several days of secluded training, the interview time finally arrived. Paris still came to pick her up, even though Zhang Wei repeatedly stated that she could go by herself.

"Don't be nervous, you're always the best, aren't you?"

Paris saw that she looked tense and spoke to comfort her.

To be honest, Zhang Wei did lack confidence a little bit after this blow. It can be said that she had been going smoothly before and she didn't expect to be rejected.

But Paris was right. She had always been the best, both academically and in other aspects. She needed to be in her best and most confident state to face the interview.

After she adjusted her mentality, she got out of the car with her head held high and said to Paris:

"Wait for my good news!"

She hurried to the interview location. When she arrived at the waiting area, she found that everyone was in a relatively relaxed state. After all, they were at almost no risk of being left out.

If she was still very tense and nervous, it would be a disadvantage, so she had to make herself look relaxed on the surface but firm on the inside.

But as the number of people in the waiting area dwindled, the pressure in her heart slowly built up again. When she got to the end, she actually breathed a sigh of relief because she was indeed the last one. However, she wanted to let the interviewer know that she was not the last one.

Zhang Wei took a deep breath and walked into the interview room with steady steps.

"Vera Wilson, you know, we're still hesitant about whether to approve your application. How do you plan to convince me?"

As soon as Zhang Wei entered and sat down, a serious-looking female professor in the middle asked her a question.

Zhang Wei said calmly, "Yes, I know, but I think this is because you don't know enough about my abilities..."

Zhang Wei then elaborated in detail on all the efforts he had made since he set the goal of becoming a pharmacist in junior high school, focusing on several laboratory research studies he had participated in. Finally, he shared his published papers, related research processes, and mental journey with the interviewer.

"...Although my current achievements aren't particularly impressive, and I'm far from a genius, my dedication to scientific research stems from my passion, perseverance, and determination. Therefore, I believe I'm worthy of this doctoral application!"

After Zhang Wei finished speaking, the room was very quiet. Zhang Wei felt that the time was very long, but after only a few dozen seconds, the female professor Laura stood up, stretched out her hand and said:

"Vera Wilson, congratulations! You've successfully convinced me. You will be the last doctoral student I will admit this year."

Zhang Wei then walked up to Professor Laura, shook her hand, and expressed his gratitude:

"Thank you, I will definitely not let you down!"

After leaving the room, Zhang Wei's steps became lighter. Paris was still waiting outside.

Zhang Wei couldn't help but cheer and ran towards him: "Paris! I did it! I'll treat you to lunch!"

Paris smiled and said, "Okay, I'll give you this opportunity. Where should we eat?"

Zhang Wei: "How about going to your restaurant?"
