Chapter 36 New Year

Chapter 36 New Year

Later, Catherine probably didn't complain to Emma, and she didn't hear anything from Emma.

In the first round of the confrontation with Catherine, Zhang Wei narrowly won.

But Zhang Wei also lost the right to read other books in Catherine's class. If she saw it, the book would be confiscated by her.

Zhang Wei was not in the right, so he could only patiently attend the simple and boring spelling and grammar classes, just to consolidate his knowledge.

The weather was getting colder and colder, and it snowed several times. The winter school uniform was not very warm, and Zhang Wei wore several sweaters inside, making him look bulging all over.

There's no way, she is really afraid of the cold.

Now her body has been forced to adapt to drinking cold water and eating cold food at any time, but she still can't adapt psychologically. Catherine has told her several times that she is not dressed appropriately.

When she entered the school, she even criticized her in front of Mrs. Lope, who looked at her disapprovingly.

So much so that Mrs. Lope personally told Emma not to prepare so many clothes for Zhang Wei, and that she should adapt to the cold from a young age to strengthen her body.

All the adults reached a consensus on this matter, and Zhang Wei had no way to explain "old cold legs" to them, so Betty would check her clothes after she got up every day.

So she could only wear thin clothes inside and a slightly thicker coat outside. Fortunately, school uniforms here are not required to be worn every day, and many girls wear pants. It is not as perverted as in Japan and South Korea where they can only wear short skirts.

So Zhang Wei could only wear tights under her sweatpants because she didn't have any thermal underwear, let alone woolen pants. Even though she was still shivering from the cold when she was outside, fortunately she didn't stay there for long and could still bear it.

I didn't expect that I would still be cold here, ah...

It snowed again this Friday. Unexpectedly, Emma said that their family would go out to eat that day, which is a rare occasion.

Except when they go on vacation, the family rarely goes out to eat. Although the Wilsons often socialize outside, the children, without exception, eat at home.

The family got out of the car. Zhang Wei looked at the scene in front of him, as if he had arrived in another world.

The place with Chinese red everywhere is Chinatown.

Emma said today is Chinese New Year, so it turns out it’s Chinese New Year…

She didn't have a lunar calendar, and before she knew it, it was Chinese New Year. The shops in Chinatown were already filled with the festive atmosphere. Zhang Wei looked at the familiar Chinese signs and for a moment she didn't realize she was in a foreign land.

Most of the people coming and going were Asian, and she could occasionally hear familiar languages, which made her feel like she was traveling through time and space.

After walking a few steps, we arrived at the restaurant we had booked in advance. The restaurant was called Wanghailou and looked like a Cantonese restaurant.

The environment inside is very clean, but the decoration is relatively old, like the style of Hong Kong dramas in the 1980s.

It’s a pity that the waiter only speaks Cantonese, otherwise Zhang Wei would like to order in Chinese.

The menu translation was quite straightforward. Everyone ordered one or two dishes. Zhang Wei ordered roast pigeon and beef porridge.

The habit of people in Country A is to order their own dishes. Even though so many people ordered, Zhang Wei could only eat what she ordered. She didn't like porridge very much before, and she wanted to eat it when she saw it because she hadn't eaten it for a long time.

Before the dishes were served, Zhang Wei saw a familiar face behind the hollow screen - the handsome mixed-race boy Paris.

The two tables were very close to each other, and there was also a large table over there. Except for Paris and an Asian man, the others were all white.

Paris also glanced at her and was immediately noticed by the man next to him. When Zhang Wei looked away, the man took Paris to the Wilson family's table.

He looked somewhat like Paris, and with a gentle smile on his face, he said to Charles:

"Mr. Wilson, I happened to meet you here. I heard from Paris that he and Vera knew each other at school, so I brought him here to say hello to his friend. It's really fate."

"Hello, Mr. Lin," Charles stood up and shook hands with him, then said to Zhang Wei, "Vera, do you want to say hello to your friends?"

Zhang Wei was still thinking that she and Paris were just acquaintances, not familiar with each other, let alone friends. But during the New Year, seeing the handsome boy with a sullen look on his face, Zhang Wei said politely:

"Yes, hello Paris, and happy new year!"

Thinking that today is Chinese New Year, she said it again in Chinese: Paris, Happy New Year.

Mr. Lin's reaction was exaggerated. He exclaimed in Cantonese: "Ah Qian, I'm speaking Chinese to you. Come back to me!"

Paris looked at Zhang Wei and said earnestly in slightly unstandard Chinese, "Happy New Year."

It was actually quite embarrassing to force socializing under everyone's gaze, but Charles was a little gentler than before and said to Mr. Lin:

"Paris is great. She'll come to the house and play with the kids if she gets a chance."

"I certainly will. I won't bother you any more. Happy New Year, Mr. Wilson." Mr. Lin's enthusiasm was just right. He returned to his side after receiving the reply.

Namier looked at Zhang Wei in confusion: "I don't remember you knowing this Paris."

"He's good at math. We must have met at the math weekend club." Manny answered helpfully.

Zhang Wei didn't really want to talk about the reading room, so she nodded and said, "Yes, he is very talented in math, and Teacher Ethan likes him very much."

"That's great, Vera has made friends too!" Emma exclaimed with relief.

"That guy doesn't seem easy to get along with. Is he really your friend?" Namir expressed doubt.

"I guess so. I often discuss math problems with him." In fact, she was just looking at his exercises from a one-sided perspective.

Paris has a lot of extracurricular materials, much like the top test-taker in China. When I met his father today, I knew that he is a very ambitious father and he has very high expectations for his son.

Charles and Emma never discussed work-related matters in front of their children. Although they were a little curious about Mr. Lin, it was of no use.

It can be speculated that Mr. Lin may have work dealings with Charles, and judging from his attitude, he has something to ask of Charles.

Also, Paris has a Chinese name, Lin Qian, which sounds a bit like the name of the protagonist in a Hong Kong drama.

Although she had only said one sentence to him, she suddenly felt that the distance between her and Paris was closer. She didn't know what Paris thought. Maybe it was national identity. She felt from the bottom of her heart that she and Paris were somewhat familiar.

Apart from this little episode, the roast pigeon and beef porridge were both delicious. Being able to have a Chinese meal on New Year's Eve was also a good way to have a good year.

When she thought that the only thing she and Paris had in common was the weekend math club, Betty's excited exclamation on Saturday morning shocked her:

"Vera! Come down quickly! Your friend is here to see you!"
