Chapter 59 Party 2

Chapter 59 Party 2

Before I reached the door, a strong aroma accompanied by a hint of food smell came from the hall, which didn't smell very pleasant.

Although it was summer and the evenings in the suburbs were still a bit chilly, Zhang Wei was immediately hit by a wave of heat as soon as he entered the banquet hall.

A plump woman in an open-necked champagne-colored dress came over and greeted warmly:

"Dear Emma, long time no see! You have completely overshadowed Fort Beatrice tonight! Let the men talk about those extremely boring things. We haven't seen you for a long time and are waiting for you!"

"Lilia! Where have you been, you bad girl? Bring your brothers over to play!"

"Oh! Look, I forgot. I heard you had a little princess—"

She spoke as fast as machine gun bullets, firing non-stop. When she saw Zhang Wei's appearance, her neck seemed to be suddenly strangled and her voice stopped abruptly.

Emma stared at her, fearing that she would say something inappropriate. One hand was on the back of Zhang Wei's head, and Zhang Wei could feel her tenseness.

"She, she is really different." The woman smiled a little stiffly, but couldn't help but said:

"I heard from Alexander that you adopted a foreign child, but I didn't expect it wasn't white—"

"Helena!" Emma interrupted her. "Vera is very good. I hope you will respect us!"

Helena quickly waved her hands: "No, no, that's not what I meant, it's just a little sudden."

Then she immediately put on a smile again and said, "Emma, let's not waste such a wonderful evening. The children can play by themselves."

Then he said to a thirteen or fourteen-year-old girl who had been waiting on the side:

"Lilia, take my brothers and..."

Zhang Wei knew that she didn't remember her name, so she took the initiative to say, "Vera, my name is Vera, Madam."

She readily agreed: "Okay, Vera, Lilia will take Vera over to play and treat her well."

It has to be said that her attitude confirmed what Charles said in the car. Although Helena didn't like her, she had to maintain superficial courtesy and politeness.

"Come to me if you have any problems!" Emma whispered in Zhang Wei's ear.

Zhang Wei nodded and followed Lilia inside with Manny and Namir.

There were many guests in the hall, and Lilia's slightly cold hand led her through the crowd.

When she looked up, she could see the intricate patterns on the ceiling of the hall and the huge crystal chandelier, which made the entire hall look like daytime, but she could see nothing but the ceiling and the carpet.

Because the hall was full of people, and the British were tall, Zhang Wei had never been squeezed among so many people before. Now it felt very dangerous to walk among them. She might be bumped if she turned around at any time.

A little kid like Zhang Wei was not in their sight at all. The adults had no time to look at their feet. They were socializing with wine glasses in their hands. She had narrowly avoided them several times. Fortunately, she had not neglected her exercise recently and her reactions had become much more sensitive.

After Lilia brought her to a small hall with slightly dimmed light, Zhang Wei could finally breathe deeply. The smell inside was truly awful. The hall was too hot, and the mixture of perfume and body odor was simply unbearable...

"Vera, I'm going to take Namir to my cousins. You stay with Lilia. She'll play with you."

"Lilia, Vera is my sister, please help me take care of her."

At this time, Manny acted like a brother and gave them some instructions.

Lilia's voice was kind and gentle, and she looked at Manny with a smile:

"Okay, Manny, you're still my brother. Don't worry, I'll take good care of Vera!"

"Why can't Vera come with us?" Zhang Wei heard him ask this from afar when Manny took Namir away.

"She's a girl, and girls should be with girls."

This scene unexpectedly coincided with a scene that had occurred in Zhang Wei's mind a long time ago. She remembered that when she first came here, Namir didn't want to play with her because she was a girl. Thinking of this, she couldn't help but curl the corners of her mouth.

"Your brothers are very good." Lilia happened to catch this scene and praised.

"Yes, all brothers are like this." Zhang Wei replied politely.

Lilia frowned immediately, opened her mouth but said nothing, and just pulled her and said, "We have to go there quickly, the others are waiting for us!"

Zhang Wei immediately thought of the twin brothers who teased Namier. Could they be her biological brother?

But Alexander doesn't seem to have a daughter. Looking at Lilia's gentle and generous appearance, he should not be her biological brother.

Following Lilia, we walked through a corridor filled with portraits. To be honest, even though the lights were on everywhere, I still felt a little nervous looking at these portraits.

"This is the portrait of the Charles family's successive heads. When my uncle passes away, the portrait will be hung there."

Are foreigners really that indifferent to death? Zhang Wei was certain that the uncle she was referring to was the bald man, Alexander.

It took about ten minutes to walk to the hall where the girls were gathering. Zhang Wei had no doubt that she would get lost if no one led her, because every door looked the same and it was impossible to tell what was inside.

"Hey, Lilia, you've been away for too long as a master, wow! Where did you bring an Asian doll from?"

Zhang Wei looked at the girl with long light blonde hair who stood up in surprise. He saw pure surprise in her eyes without any other meaning, so he smiled at her.

"Look! She smiled at me, Lilia, she's so cute." She held her face exaggeratedly.

"Okay, Emily, you scared her. Let me introduce everyone. This is my uncle's daughter. Her name is Vera."

Then he pulled her to sit on the long sofa in the middle and introduced her: "Everyone here is my classmates and friends!"

"Nice to see you all!" Zhang Wei stood up and greeted everyone before sitting down.

It seems that Wilson's tradition is to give birth to sons. It seems that Lilia is the only girl in the Wilson family. She is very considerate to Zhang Wei and asked her what she wanted to drink. Zhang Wei asked for a cup of hot tea and took a piece of dessert and ate it slowly.

Except for Emily who looked at her a few more times, perhaps because she was too young, the girls did not particularly care about Zhang Wei's presence. This made Zhang Wei very comfortable. She listened to them talking about the teachers at school, the competitions they were going to participate in, and the boys they met.

Later, they talked about going abroad as exchange students in their 10th grade. When asked which country they would go to, Emily couldn't help but ask:

"Have you ever lived in another country before, Vera? Do you have any suggestions?"

Zhang Wei was about to speak when Lilia spoke first: "Country A, Vera and her uncle are in Country A. We have been there several times during holidays, so we are not unfamiliar with Country A. If you don't want a little challenge, you can go there."

Then he turned his head and asked Zhang Wei in a coaxing tone: "Vera, do you think Country A is better or the UK?"
