Chapter 12 A New Look

Jiang Qiao sighed, stopped Ning Hao, and said seriously, "Brother Hao, this isn't a one-off deal between us. I'm thinking of working with you and your friends to find ways to make money in the future."

Ning Hao was startled by Jiang Qiao's words. It sounded so awkward for a twelve-year-old girl to talk about making money.

He looked at Jiang Qiao with a serious expression and said, "Little girl, don't mess around. It's illegal to do business privately. If public and private businesses are combined, where are you going to make money?"

Jiang Qiao glanced at him sideways and gave a bitter laugh. "Do you think I'm willing to take this risk? I was really scared by my grandmother's illness. It's really unpleasant to not have money to treat a loved one. I don't want to experience that feeling again."

Just in case something happens in the future, I need to find a way to make more money. Although there are risks, with careful planning, there's still a chance. What do you think? Any ideas?

Jiang Qiao's words were a mix of truth and falsehood. She herself didn't really have any feelings for Wang Dahua, having only been there for a few days. However, she did admire the old lady quite a bit. She was able to raise little Jiang Qiao all by herself. Putting everything else aside, just that dedication alone was enough for her to treat the old lady well.

Moreover, she was really uncomfortable and scared of this unfamiliar environment.

Those people yesterday, in particular, were a huge shock to her. If she wanted to live comfortably in this era, she needed to find a way to make the things in her space legal. The only excuse she could use was to earn money to buy these supplies, so as not to arouse the old lady's suspicion.

When Ning Hao heard that Jiang Qiao wanted to make money, he was tempted. He was short of money too. Even though he was already working, the little salary he earned was enough to support himself.

But if an elderly family member gets sick or something serious happens, what can he do with his meager salary? The little money he earns can only keep him from starving. What he's more curious about is what method Jiang Qiao is planning to use to make money.

Jiang Qiao smiled when she met Ning Hao's eager gaze and excited tone.

“There are many ways. We just need to see which one suits us best for the time being. It’s almost the end of the year, and everyone is preparing to buy New Year’s goods. This is our opportunity. We’ve been saving all year. It’s not easy to have a New Year and a family reunion. Can we afford to be stingy at this time? This is our chance.”

Ning Hao frowned, looking puzzled. "I know all that, but what are we going to sell? We can't just conjure it up out of thin air. Besides, it's the end of the year, supplies are tight, and everything is bought with coupons. Those are all rare items. How are we going to do it?"

Jiang Qiao's words all made sense, but Ning Hao just couldn't figure out what this girl wanted to sell.

"Alright, I'm not going to beat around the bush with you anymore. Doesn't the neighboring city have a sea? Let's make our money from that. We can go there, buy seafood from the fishermen, and then ship it back. The price difference will be enough for our pocket money."

Ning Hao had no idea what the pocket money Jiang Qiao was talking about represented. It wasn't just any pocket money; if handled well, it could be a substantial profit.

He exclaimed repeatedly, "How come we didn't think of this before? Little girl, you've impressed me again. Okay, we'll discuss this further tonight. I'm leaving now."

This time, Ning Hao didn't refuse anymore. He was about to make money, and compared to the future profits, this amount of money was nothing.

Jiang Qiao simply waited at home for the firewood to be delivered. She had assumed the old lady would stay in the city for the night, but to her surprise, she returned before dark. However, she seemed rather downcast.

"Grandma, did someone upset you?"

The old lady gave a bitter smile and patted her granddaughter's head. "You silly child, why do you ask that? No one's upset with me, but I'm a little sad. Your little brother almost didn't recognize me as his grandma, and he's not as close to me as he used to be. How can I not feel good about that? Sigh—"

Jiang Qiao couldn't control this. After all, if you don't spend a lot of time together, your feelings will naturally fade, especially since children don't remember much and it's inevitable that they will forget.

"Oh, Grandma, why are you thinking so much? As long as my brother is alright, does it matter whether he knows you or not? Even if he doesn't know you, he's still the grandson of the Jiang family, and he has my uncle's blood in his veins. Besides, he's still young. He'll naturally understand when he grows up."

"Just tell me, how have those people treated my brother?"

"well--"

The old lady sighed, "It's not too good, but it's not too bad either. How should I put it, it's just so-so. After all, your aunt has had another child, so she naturally doesn't treat your brother as well as before."

However, your aunt is fine. After all, she gave birth to the child herself, and she insisted on taking the child with her. I haven't heard of her doing anything bad to the child.

I asked around among the neighbors before I left; otherwise, I wouldn't have dared to leave with peace of mind.

"Sigh, he is indeed my grandson, but as his grandmother, I can't take the place of his mother. I'll be grateful if I could just raise you to adulthood."

As soon as he finished speaking, a few loudspeakers blared from the alley, and Ning Hao's voice came from over the wall.

Jiang Qiao jumped to the ground, "Oh my god, I almost forgot about them! Grandma, Brother Ning Hao is here to get firewood for us. I'm going out to see."

The old lady couldn't sit still any longer and came out to take a look. She saw that the two young men were throwing things from the top of the wall into the yard, while Ning Hao and Jiang Qiao were standing in the yard directing them.

The old lady had no idea what was going on. She was about to ask why they didn't come in through the front door when she suddenly realized what was happening.

"Oh my god, you all be careful, don't get into a fight! Ning Hao, you and Qiao'er stay far away—"

The old lady never expected that her granddaughter and Ning Hao would have a truckload of firewood, including wood shavings, wood blocks, and wood chips—clearly leftover materials from a processing plant.

Jiang Qiao was excited; with these things, she and Wang Dahua wouldn't have to freeze anymore.

As soon as they made a commotion, the Du family, who lived nearby in the Jiang family's courtyard, came over to see what had happened. When they found out what was going on, Song Lianfeng and Du Chengsong, along with their eldest son, naturally joined in to help.

Upon learning that Ning Hao had helped the Jiang family buy the firewood, Song Lianfeng and the others found it hard to believe that Ning Hao would actually help Jiang Qiao's family.

But seeing is believing. They did indeed get their hands on something, even though they bought it, it solved a major problem for the Jiang family.

No one questioned where the money came from, since the old lady had gone to her daughter-in-law, and it might have been given to her by her daughter-in-law.

Jiang Qiao and Ning Hao chatted quietly as they busied themselves gathering firewood. Once everything was stored away, the old lady invited everyone inside to sit down. She said, "Those two kids were still being thrown out into the yard. It must have taken so much effort!" Even she felt embarrassed. She wondered what her granddaughter and Ning Hao had been saying. She felt indebted to them.
