Jiang Qiao didn't stay at Song Zhi's house for long. After chatting for a while, she went straight back. Cheng Yingli had a high opinion of her niece, Jiang Qiao.
"Who does this child take after? He's so young, but he acts like an adult. Zhengfeng and his wife are really lucky. Even though the child didn't grow up by their side, he's very close to them. I wonder how that old lady raised him."
Song Zhi got up to help his wife tidy up the house. The house wasn't finished yet. While working, he said, "The child's condition has nothing to do with that old lady. I heard it from Xiao Zhao. The child was forced to be like this. That old lady and Jiang Qiao were almost starving to death. What could the child do but force himself to grow up?"
I would rather the girl be like a child, at least it would prove that the child grew up in a carefree environment. Anyway, seeing Jiang Qiao like this, I feel sorry for her.
Let's not talk about anything else. Just look at our daughter. Compared to Jiang Qiao, she's a far cry from him. That's the difference. I'm sure Zhengfeng and his wife feel sorry for her, but they just haven't said it out loud.
"When you have time, try to pay more attention to this child. The fourth brother and his wife live far away, so they can't see or touch him."
Jiang Qiao was about to leave the residential compound on her bicycle when a man who was completely covered up approached her. He was wearing a cotton-padded coat, hat, mask, and large glasses. It was unclear whether the man was in a hurry or Jiang Qiao was lost in thought. The two almost collided, but luckily Jiang Qiao braked in time.
The other person seemed fine, but she fell to the ground. The man glanced at Jiang Qiao, then walked into the family building without saying a word, carrying his bag.
Jiang Qiao glared at the man, annoyed. "What kind of person are you? Don't you have eyes?!"
Although she harbored resentment towards this person, she couldn't very well stand in the yard like a madwoman, hands on her hips, cursing after he left. So, she resigned herself to her fate, got up, picked up the car, checked it over, and finding nothing wrong, got back in and drove away.
However, as she rode, she pondered what had just happened. The weather wasn't warm, but it didn't warrant being so bundled up. Jiang Qiao found it strange and awkward no matter how she thought about it. Looking at the pedestrians on the street, she realized that no one was dressed like that man. It was too incongruous.
The thought of the word "incongruous" made Jiang Qiao's heart tighten. A thought flashed through her mind, but she was also startled by her own idea.
"Please don't let it be true—"
While silently admonishing myself, I turned the bicycle around and somehow managed to ride it like a motorcycle.
Jiang Qiao recklessly rushed back, and the pedestrians on the road thought that this girl was too reckless. There were pedestrians on the road, and no one rode their bike like that. If they hadn't dodged quickly, they probably would have hit more than just one or two people.
When Jiang Qiao arrived at the location, she didn't even have time to stop her bicycle; she threw it on the ground and rushed into the building.
The apartment building wasn't tall, only four stories. Jiang Qiao ran from the first floor to the third floor, saw the person, and immediately knocked on Song Zhi's door.
Seeing Jiang Qiao return, Song Zhi was puzzled. "Girl, what's wrong? Did you leave something behind?"
Jiang Qiao was sweating profusely with anxiety, but she didn't dare to speak loudly. She pulled Song Zhi aside and whispered a few words in his ear.
Upon hearing this, Song Zhi's expression immediately changed. He put on his shoes and quickly called out to the people inside, "Wife, hurry, bring the child out and wait outside."
Cheng Yingli didn't understand what was going on and was about to ask when Jiang Qiao and Song Zhi had already split up and started acting separately.
"What's wrong? Give me an answer! Why are you making us go out in this cold weather?"
Song Zhi's voice rang out, "Knock on every door, tell them all to leave, and be quick—"
Cheng Yingli was dumbfounded. "What are you trying to do? Who listens to me?"
However, Song Zhi didn't have time to answer him. He and Jiang Qiao searched everywhere. After all, it was an old residential building, and there were a lot of things piled up in the stairwell. Jiang Qiao and Song Zhi knocked on the door to tell the people inside to leave quickly while they searched for things.
Some people are unhappy. In this freezing weather, they've finally managed to stay home, and now someone wants them to go out. Even though it's the police chief, they're not happy about it.
"Hurry up, everyone! I suspect there's a bomb here. Get outside right now! If it explodes, nobody's going to escape!"
When Song Zhi said this, everyone was stunned. He didn't even care about whether the family's valuables were taken; the police chief had spoken, so it was almost certainly true.
"Oh my god—"
Those who heard this turned around and ran downstairs, not forgetting to knock on the doors of their acquaintances to urge them to run quickly.
Jiang Qiao and Song Zhi searched all the way to the fourth-floor rooftop, but still found nothing. Even Song Zhi wondered if Jiang Qiao was overthinking things.
"No, that can't be right, Uncle. Let's go down. Even if the fourth floor exploded, it can't threaten the third floor. Let's search below the third floor."
Song Zhi's expression froze. "You mean they might be after me?"
Jiang Qiao nodded seriously. "I suspect they're retaliating. Let's not worry about that now and just leave."
Jiang Qiao was anxious. She felt that her intuition was right, so she pulled Song Zhi and ran to the third floor. If her guess was correct, the thing was very likely on the third or second floor, but where was it?
Seeing Jiang Qiao's reaction, Song Zhi calmed down as well. "Girl, don't panic. Let's think carefully about where they might have left it."
Jiang Qiao glanced at the mess in the corridor, some things they had rummaged through and others kicked by the residents who had fled downstairs.
Jiang Qiao closed her eyes and tried to calm herself down. Compared to the chaotic situation before, the corridor was much quieter now. Suddenly, Jiang Qiao's ears twitched.
He opened his eyes, searched around, and his eyes landed on the electrical box. "Third Uncle, the thing might be in the electrical box. Quick, open it."
As for unlocking, Song Zhi was a police officer, so it wasn't a problem for him. Although he was a little surprised, he still obediently opened the locked electrical box.
Upon seeing the bundle of explosives inside and the still-moving pointer above, Song Zhi's hands trembled for a moment.
However, he quickly calmed down, took out the bundle of explosives, checked the pointer, and yelled at Jiang Qiao, "Run! I'll handle this!"
Seeing Song Zhi's refusal, Jiang Qiao knew she couldn't say anything, even if she wanted to. She nodded and ran downstairs.
Song Zhi opened the window. Behind their apartment building was a small park with an artificial lake below. However, due to the cold weather and the fact that it was noon, there were not many people in the park.
Song Zhi jumped down with the explosives in his arms. As Jiang Qiao rushed down, Cheng Yingli grabbed her and anxiously asked, "Where's Song Zhi? Where did his third uncle go?"
