Chapter 349 Excuse for Drinking Water

Jiang Qiao was worried that something might happen to the old lady, so she followed behind. The tailor shop was a street-facing storefront, and the back should be where the couple lived. When they walked to the back, there was indeed a courtyard with three main rooms. Jiang Qiao waited in the courtyard, where the toilet was located, so she wasn't worried about anything going wrong.

Looking around, the yard was very clean, which showed that the owner of the house was a capable person.

After the female boss saw the person inside, she also came to Jiang Qiao's side.

"Auntie, your yard is so clean."

The woman smiled and said, "Cleanliness? Only you wouldn't mind. I'm busy every day and really don't have much time to tidy up."

Jiang Qiao turned to the woman with an apologetic look. "Auntie, could I have a glass of water? The pickled vegetables I ate this morning were a bit too salty."

The woman nodded. Just then, Zhou Yaru came out of the bathroom. "Grandma, I want some water. Why don't you come in and sit down? Let's see if we have any suitable materials. I want to prepare funeral clothes for my grandparents."

Zhou Yaru nodded. "It's time to prepare. There's no one else at home, so it's good to prepare early."

Following the landlady into the house, which was clean and tidy, Jiang Qiao drank a glass of water and then picked out fabrics from the women's clothes with the old lady.

"Sigh, this is what we saved up before. Now, it's all rationed. Only you, Madam, would be willing to take it out if you weren't a regular customer. It's all good material, top-quality silk."

Jiang Qiao glanced around the room from time to time, but didn't find anything suspicious. However, the furniture in the house did catch her attention. Although it was all old furniture, the wood was of good quality.

If I'm not mistaken, those are all antique items, some made of huanghuali wood and others of rosewood. As for Zhou Yaru, she was genuinely helping her granddaughter with the issue of choosing funeral clothes for the elderly.

As the proprietress discussed the matter in detail, Jiang Qiao added details about the elderly man's measurements.

Once everything was settled, Jiang Qiao and Zhou Yaru planned to leave. They hadn't discovered anything, had taken care of everything, and saw no need to stay.

"Auntie, please make it for me as soon as possible. I'll come and pick it up in a couple of days."

After leaving the clothing store, the old lady looked at her granddaughter with a puzzled expression. "Girl, did you notice anything?"

Jiang Qiao shook her head and asked as she walked, "Grandma, what's the background of these two people? Do they have any children?"

"I haven't heard of any children. They say the child died of illness back then, and the woman's health wasn't good, so she hasn't had any since. Doctors have seen her, but they can't do anything. What's wrong? This is very suspicious."

Jiang Qiao pondered for a moment and said, "It can't be said to be suspicious, Grandma. Didn't you see the cups they use for drinking water? They're not ordinary cups; they're all top-quality porcelain. Normally, ordinary families would just use bowls to get water. It seems this couple knows how to enjoy life."

The old lady thought about it and agreed with Jiang Qiao's point. "Could this be an enemy spy?"

Zhou Yaru was determined to avenge her son. Whenever Jiang Qiao paid attention to someone, the old lady's first reaction would be to suspect that the person was a spy.

Jiang Qiao didn't say much to the old lady, but instead took her for a walk before heading back. The two of them also bought the groceries they needed for lunch.

As Jiang Qiao passed by a phone booth, she made a call to Song Shutian.

Upon hearing the familiar voice, he quickly gave his location and asked him to bring his people over immediately.

Song Shutian had a gut feeling that Jiang Qiao must have discovered something, and in the little girl's judgment, it was no longer just a matter of suspicion, but something that could be judged.

Actually, sometimes he also found it strange that Jiang Qiao was so sensitive to these people. If the little girl said yes, then the suspects were definitely the ones.

But he couldn't find any other answer, and could only attribute it to Jiang Qiao's innate sensitivity and keen observation of people and things.

Some people are so naturally gifted that even someone like him, who has received training, can only look up to them in awe.

He quickly ordered his men to find someone, dressed in plain clothes, and to split up; he would meet with Jiang Qiao first.

I saw the little girl carrying a shopping basket, strolling around the neighborhood with the old lady.

When Jiang Qiao saw Song Shutian arrive, she told the old lady to wait while she went to queue up to buy steamed buns. Song Shutian also joined the queue behind Jiang Qiao. The two whispered to each other for a while, then Song Shutian bought the buns and turned to leave.

Jiang Qiao then took the steamed buns she had bought and went back with the old lady.

"Girl, was that Xiao Song just now?"

Jiang Qiao nodded. "Grandma, I have some doubts. Let him take some people to keep an eye on them. If they're bad guys, they won't be able to escape."

Song Shutian hadn't expected that Jiang Qiao would actually find the enemy's liaison station. This time, he was really determined. If things went wrong again, he wouldn't be able to continue this mission; it would be too embarrassing.

As for the clothing store Jiang Qiao mentioned, it's impossible for the little girl not to have something fishy going on, so he sent people to keep a close eye on it.

After arranging the manpower, he hurriedly rushed back to report to his superiors.

After lunch, Song Shutian went over to supervise again, afraid that there might be a mistake this time. He would really be letting Jiang Qiao down. You know, the young lady has found the person and the location for them. If they lose the person, they might as well die. They can't afford to lose face like that.

Jiang Qiao didn't go out in the afternoon. She let the old couple go back to their room for a nap while she tidied up the house. Without a maid, the old lady, who doesn't usually do housework, and with her son's situation, had neither the mood nor the energy to clean the house.

The old man was in much better health than the old woman, so after sleeping for a while, Wen Songtao got up.

"Qiao'er, come here for a second—"

Jiang Qiao carried a rag and walked into the old man's study. "Grandpa, what's wrong? Do you want some water? I'll make you some tea."

Wen Songtao smiled and nodded. After Jiang Qiao came out with the tea, the old man looked at the situation outside and whispered something to Jiang Qiao.

"I have news of your eldest uncle; he has already left."

Jiang Qiao looked at the old man with surprise. She was also worried about the situation of Wen Boxuan's family. After all, she had entrusted her overseas savings to Wen Boxuan. If it was lost and benefited outsiders, she would be heartbroken.

"It's alright, it's alright."

The old man picked up his teacup and slowly took a sip. "But it wasn't all smooth sailing. The men I had ambushed ran into another group. Luckily, my men were quite capable and didn't disappoint me. Otherwise, it would have been really hard to say what would have happened to your uncle's family. This move was too risky."

Girl, remember what I'm about to say. I have a younger sister, my own sister, but she suffered heartbreak when she was young and became a nun. Back then, I told everyone that she died out there, so no one knew that one of the girls in our Wen family had become a nun.

I have a brother living abroad, but that has little to do with you, and we're unlikely to see each other again.

As for the others, they weren't born to the same mother as us; they all separated and lived separately. We haven't kept in touch much over the years, but of course, their lives aren't bad either.

Jiang Qiao finally couldn't hold back any longer and asked, "My great-grandmother died young?"
