Jiang Qiao and Song Junqiang pretended to be asleep during the day, at most just closing their eyes to rest. But by night, they couldn't hold on any longer. Jiang Qiao kept reminding herself that the old lady's behavior was a bit abnormal. Whether it was intentional or not, she didn't want to see Meng Yuzhi and her daughter suffer.
But being so young, Jiang Qiao couldn't keep up. She was drowsy at first, but then she fell into a deep sleep. Even while asleep, she was having nightmares.
When the man pulled out his gun, she suddenly woke up in fright. When she looked up again, she panicked even more. The old lady opposite her was gone, and Shuanzi was gone too. Meng Yuzhi was asleep on the table.
Jiang Qiao pushed Meng Yuzhi hard, but the woman didn't react at all. She then quickly woke up Song Junqiang next to her.
"Wake up, wake up! Shuanzi is gone, and the old lady is gone too."
Song Junqiang was still in a daze, but Jiang Qiao's fright woke him up completely.
"What? They've both disappeared?"
Jiang Qiao nodded. Song Junqiang impressed her again at this moment. "Go and report to the train conductor quickly. I'll go find someone. Be quick, the train should be arriving at the station soon."
Both of them were gone, which meant they were about to arrive at their destination, since he hadn't noticed the old lady's luggage at all.
Jiang Qiao quickly went to find the train conductor and also contacted the train police, informing them that there were human traffickers on the train.
Immediately, the train police and staff sprang into action, checking each carriage one by one. Finally, they found the old lady who had taken the bolt when the train arrived at the station.
That old woman was good at hiding. She didn't stand directly where she got off the bus, but hid in the toilet. Now that the person had been found and the child wasn't lost, Jiang Qiao and Song Junqiang could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Meng Yuzhi still doesn't know that her son almost got lost because of her negligence.
When the train police saw Meng Yuzhi sleeping soundly, seemingly in some unknown country, they had a pretty good idea of what was going on. They couldn't wake her up no matter what they did; it was obvious that she had been drugged.
Jiang Qiao, ever the good Samaritan, poured water on Meng Yuzhi and splashed water on her, until Meng Yuzhi finally opened her eyes in a daze.
However, she was a mother with a conscience; her first thought upon waking was to check on her child.
The loss of her child completely terrified her and woke her up.
"My child, my Shuanzi—"
Seeing Meng Yuzhi's tearful expression, it was the train police officer who offered an explanation.
"You should really thank these two young comrades. If it weren't for their vigilance, your son would have been kidnapped by that old lady long ago. Please help us with the investigation."
Meng Yuzhi was taken away. Jiang Qiao sighed. After such a scare, she was originally sleepy, but now she was completely wide awake.
Song Junqiang gritted his teeth even more, "That old woman, she really knows how to act. We were almost fooled by her."
Jiang Qiao turned her head and looked Song Junqiang up and down. "You're not bad. Even at a time like this, you can still stay calm. Have you been trained?"
Song Junqiang chuckled sheepishly, "It's nothing special, I just learned a little from my dad."
Jiang Qiao's eyes darted around. "Your dad? Don't tell me your dad's a policeman?"
Song Junqiang chuckled and said, "I guess so."
Jiang Qiao was even more puzzled. "So what? Aren't we in love?"
Song Junqiang stopped joking with Jiang Qiao. "It'll be soon. My dad has been transferred to the police force. He used to be in the army."
Jiang Qiao nodded in understanding. "I was right. A descendant of a military family, huh? Not bad, very capable. Being a police officer is a good job. They both protect our people, it's just that the work locations and service methods are different."
Song Junqiang gave Jiang Qiao a thumbs up and said, "What you said is pretty much what my dad said."
"Are you going home or visiting relatives?"
When talking to Jiang Qiao, Song Junqiang didn't make those nonsensical statements like before: "I'm both visiting relatives and going home. My mother and the others are still in our hometown. They'll all move over once my father has made the arrangements."
Jiang Qiao took a sip of water and then took out some food. Although she had already eaten dinner, she was hungry again.
"Would you like some too?"
Song Junqiang was also hungry, and after searching for people back and forth, he had already digested the little food he had eaten.
Just after having a free meal with Jiang Qiao, Meng Yuzhi returned with her child. Upon seeing Jiang Qiao and Song Junqiang, she immediately knelt down before them.
"No, Auntie, please don't do this! You're shortening our lives! Get up!"
Meng Yuzhi didn't know how to thank Jiang Qiao and the other person enough. If it weren't for them, her son would definitely have been lost today.
She kept thanking Jiang Qiao and the others, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Auntie, please don't be so polite. Putting aside the fact that your uncle is a soldier who protects our country, we can't let him be kidnapped by human traffickers just for the sake of the child. It's a miracle that the child wasn't lost. We'll just be more careful in the future."
Meng Yuzhi dared not sleep that night. Although Shuanzi had also eaten the noodles laced with the drug, it did not have a significant effect on his health. He woke up early the next morning, and the train was about to arrive at the station.
Everyone packed their luggage and prepared to get off the bus.
Seeing Jiang Qiao's huge bag of things, Song Junqiang felt sorry for her.
"How did you carry that? It's so heavy!"
Jiang Qiao smiled and said, "My grandfather saw me off at the train station. He sent a telegram to my parents before I came, asking them to come and pick me up. So bringing too much didn't have much of an impact."
Song Junqiang eventually helped get the large package out of the station.
As soon as Jiang Qiao went out, she started looking for people in military uniforms. She had seen her parents' old photos, but she couldn't find anyone who looked like them. However, there was a person in military uniform holding a sign with Meng Yuzhi's name on it.
"Father, Father, here, here—"
Song Junqiang saw the man holding the sign and waved excitedly. Meng Yuzhi also saw the sign with her name on it and followed behind Song Junqiang.
Jiang Qiao was worried. Had they not received the telegram or what? Logically speaking, when her long-lost daughter arrived, even if it was impossible for both parents to come and greet her in person, at least one of them should come, or even just send someone to pick her up.
She didn't know if the couple was careless or if there was a problem with the communication, but she just couldn't find the person who was supposed to pick her up.
She followed Song Junqiang dejectedly. Although she could drive there herself, she was not familiar with the area where the army was stationed, and even if she drove, she would probably get lost.
Looking at the somewhat familiar county town, Jiang Qiao sighed inwardly.
She had been to this place before, but now everything has changed.
Song Junqiang chatted with his father, Song Zhi, for a bit, but he was more curious about why his father was holding up a sign for Meng Yuzhi.
"Don't even mention it. Your Uncle Zheng didn't have time to come, so I just picked him up since I'm free."
