Chapter 59 Heartwarming Moments

Gu Zhengfeng understood his wife's feelings. The couple hadn't had any more children over the years, partly due to health reasons and partly because of the guilt they felt towards their daughter.

They brought their child into this world, but failed to fulfill their responsibilities as parents, and ended up losing the child. Every time they think of their child, the couple hugs each other and cries.

"Wan'er, don't cry. Let's sit down, okay? The child is tired. She hasn't rested at all on the way here."

Wen Jingwan sat down on the chair without saying a word, holding Jiang Qiao, just like she used to hold a baby. She quietly looked at her daughter and then smiled foolishly.

"Zhengfeng, am I dreaming? Our baby is back, is this real? Can you pinch me?"

Without Gu Zhengfeng even having to reach out, Jiang Qiao stretched out her small hand and stroked her mother's thin face. Her mother was much thinner and more haggard than in the photos, and her skin was rough.

"Mom, you can feel my body temperature, you're not dreaming."

Seeing his wife and daughter like this, Gu Zhengfeng walked over with red eyes and hugged them tightly in his arms.

"Wan'er, you're not dreaming. Our daughter has returned. Qiao'er is alive. She's come to find us. She hasn't forgotten that we are her parents. She's alive and well—"

The family of three embraced tightly inside the house. In this rare moment of warmth, even Jiang Qiao felt that her decision to come and find her parents was the right one. If she had just written letters, wouldn't her mother have been worried to death?

After a long while, Wen Jingwan remembered something and looked at Jiang Qiao anxiously.

"Qiao'er, are you hungry? Mom will take you to eat. Let's have something delicious. Mom made you lots of clothes, and your dad bought you lots of gifts. Let's go get them—"

Jiang Qiao hugged Wen Jingwan's neck and rested her head on her chest. "Mom, don't rush. Hug me more often. When I grow up, you won't be able to hug me anymore."

A single sentence from their child brought tears to the couple's eyes.

"Okay, Mommy will hold you. Mommy won't go anywhere, I'll just hold our Qiao'er."

Gu Zhengfeng, being a man after all, regained his composure after the initial excitement. As the sky outside gradually darkened, neither the mother nor the daughter showed any intention of going home.

Then he gently reminded her, "Wan'er, we should go home and cook for the children. Our Qiao'er must be hungry. Qiao'er, come on, let Daddy carry you, okay?"

Gu Zhengfeng originally wanted to hold his daughter. For so many years, he had been having the same dream: the little baby from back then was still in his arms, warm and soft, fair and tender. As soon as she saw him, the little girl would laugh happily, her laughter was particularly clear and crisp. Even the worst mood would become cheerful after seeing this child.

But now that the child is older, he doesn't mind taking him out; he's worried the child will be shy.

Jiang Qiao did not refuse. As their child who had been separated for many years, she could understand to some extent the parents' desire for compensation.

"Dad, then carry me on your back. If it's heavy, put me down."

Wen Jingwan was reluctant to let go; she hadn't held the child enough yet.

However, Gu Zhengfeng's reminder that the child was hungry forced her to let go; she had to go back and cook for the child.

When the family of three came out, everyone who was supposed to be off work had already left, and those who weren't off work watched the family leave with heartfelt blessings.

The three walked and talked. The couple had many questions, and Jiang Qiao answered them one by one while leaning on her father's back.

Especially after hearing about the child's reunion with his grandfather, Gu Zhengfeng and his wife were at a loss for words. It was all fate; the child was lost suddenly, and the child was found just as unexpectedly.

Wen Jingwan is more concerned about how her child has been living all these years.

This time, Jiang Qiao didn't mince words. She said that her grandfather would definitely write to her in the future. There were some things that she didn't want to say, but it was better for her to tell the couple herself than to find out from someone else.

Hearing about her daughter's experiences and ordeal, Wen Jingwan lowered her head and wept as she walked.

Gu Zhengfeng sighed and patted Jiang Qiao's bottom. "Child, you've suffered. You did the right thing. From now on, as long as you think it's right, just do it without worry. Dad and Mom will definitely support you."

He wasn't stupid; he had a brain and could analyze things. The girl was just objectively recounting what happened, but he could imagine what it must have felt like for a little girl to outwit and outmaneuver these adults who were scheming against her. He understood that perfectly well.

Such a young child, all alone, relied on the help of friends to find a way to escape the control of that family. The effort and sacrifices made during this process can hardly be expressed in words.

He felt both heartbroken and proud; this was his daughter, Gu Zhengfeng's daughter, and no one could compare to their child.

Look at this little one, already knows how to use tactics and avoids getting criticized. How can an average person do that?

Jiang Qiao never expected that her own father would spoil his child so unconditionally.

It would be a lie to say I wasn't touched. A child who is loved by both parents is truly a treasure.

"Dad, aren't you afraid of spoiling me?"

Gu Zhengfeng laughed heartily, "Hehe, she's my daughter, I can spoil her however I want, who can stop me? Qiao'er, do you think Daddy will spoil you?"

Jiang Qiao giggled, "No, I'm a child born of Mom and Dad. I will be like you two, a person with a clear conscience, right, Dad?"

"That's right, they're my children. No matter how much I spoil them, they'll never go bad. They're the best children in our family, something others can only envy."

Gu Zhengfeng had become a doting father to his child; he was no longer the cold, unsmiling, and unromantic man he usually was.

Wen Jingwan looked at the father and son who were praising each other with a gentle expression. At this moment, her world consisted only of her daughter and husband.

"Qiao'er, what would you like to eat tonight?"

Jiang Qiao chuckled, "I like to eat anything my mom makes. I'm not a picky eater. And this time I brought you a lot of delicious food. I'll take it back and show it to you. Brother Song took the package back with me."

As soon as they arrived at their doorstep, they ran into Song Zhi, who had been waiting for them.

"Oh my god, you're finally back! Old Gu, how about we have a couple of drinks tonight? My niece has been found! This is such a joyous occasion! These next few days, you'll be in charge of feeding my son and me. If it weren't for my son, where would you have found your daughter?"

Gu Zhengfeng wasn't falling for it. "You're kidding me. My daughter came here specifically to find us. Even without your son, my daughter could still find us."

What do you think? A little girl like you dared to take the train here by herself, and she couldn't find her way around? Don't worry, my daughter is very capable.

Song Zhi nodded helplessly, "Yes, yes, your daughter is the best. Hurry up and prepare the food, I'm starving. I got some from the cafeteria. Sister-in-law, cook a dish. The child is back, we should have a good meal."

Jiang Qiao asked Song Zhi for the large package he had brought.

Too lazy to go back, Song Zhi shouted into the yard, "Junqiang, bring my sister's package over."
