Chapter 62 The Secret Between Father and Son

Gu Zhengfeng was stunned by his daughter's throwing knives. Good heavens, the little girl was calm and collected as she swung the knives, hitting them every time. She was much better than her father.

The key issue is that he didn't understand when his daughter learned this.

He can play with this thing, but actually using it to hunt is a completely different matter from playing. Without a certain amount of arm strength, it's impossible to do that.

Jiang Qiao was so engrossed in hunting that she didn't care about anything else. This time, she only brought cured meat with her; she simply couldn't bring enough fresh meat. She did have some space, but she couldn't explain it away.

I just wanted to get some fresh meat to eat so my dad could see it, at least so I'd have an excuse later.

Turning around, I found my father staring in disbelief; he actually looked quite adorable.

Jiang Qiao smiled at Gu Zhengfeng, "Dad, you're dumbfounded?"

Gu Zhengfeng then came to his senses and eagerly asked, "Qiao'er, tell me honestly, how did you develop these hands?"

Jiang Qiao used the same excuse as before: she had a powerful uncle. However, this uncle was already dead, so there was no way to verify the story.

However, Gu Zhengfeng interpreted these words differently. After all, he had experience and knew that to train a girl to that level, one simply couldn't do it without hard work.

Why does that uncle teaching the child seem to think he's trying to get the child to protect his mother?

It's no wonder he, as a father, thought that way. If those people had treated their child well, he and his wife would have been eternally grateful. They never expected those fools to scheme against the child. To ask such a young child for two hundred yuan, they must have been really greedy.

Just as Jiang Qiao was about to say go back, a commotion suddenly came from the woods. The father and daughter looked up and saw a roe deer rushing towards them. Gu Zhengfeng's first thought was to pull his daughter behind him.

However, Jiang Qiao reacted even faster, throwing the throwing knife in her hand at the roe deer.

When Jiang Qiao peeked out from behind her father, she was dumbfounded. No wonder the roe deer was charging so recklessly; it turned out there was a wild boar following behind it.

"Qiao'er, run—"

Gu Zhengfeng turned around, picked up his daughter, and ran back, but the wild boar had no intention of letting them go. Jiang Qiao guessed that, most likely, she had killed the boar's toy, and it would be strange if they didn't settle the score.

Seeing the wild boar about to attack her father's back, Jiang Qiao suddenly produced two red throwing knives in her hands. These knives were different from ordinary knives; they were coated with anesthetic. With her eyes slightly narrowed, she threw the knives with both hands, sending them flying towards the wild boar's head with a whooshing sound.

Gu Zhengfeng was so focused on escaping with his daughter that he didn't notice anything else. When Jiang Qiao saw the wild boar fall to the ground, she quickly patted her father's shoulder.

"Dad, Dad, quick! I've taken down the wild boar! There's so much meat! We can't throw it away, it's such a waste!"

Hearing the child say that, Gu Zhengfeng slowed down, turned around, and saw that it was true. He gave a wry smile and said, "You little rascal, you're really something. You even managed to take down a wild boar?"

Jiang Qiao hugged Gu Zhengfeng's neck and smiled sweetly, "Dad, let me tell you, I've coated the knife I used to hunt wild boars with medicine. Grandpa Qiao taught me how. That wild boar was probably knocked out by the drug. Let's go take a look."

Gu Zhengfeng's feelings were complicated. He had no idea what his daughter had been learning. Wang Dahua's son was teaching her this, and Old Master Qi was even teaching the child how to poison her. He wondered what these people were thinking. His daughter was only thirteen years old. How could they be so careless with such a young child?

Gu Zhengfeng went over, worried that the wild boar's effects would wear off and it would attack again, so he took out the two throwing knives and stabbed the wild boar's head several times before he felt relieved.

With a roe deer, a wild boar, and so many pheasants and rabbits, the father and son alone definitely couldn't take them all back.

"Qiao'er, wait here, Daddy will get some branches so we can drag them back."

Jiang Qiao looked conflicted. "There are so many, can we move them? Should we call someone to help?"

Gu Zhengfeng had his concerns; his child was still young. He squatted down and looked at Jiang Qiao with a serious expression.

"Qiao'er, remember this, all of these things were done by your father. In the future, you must know how to hide your abilities in front of outsiders. You can't let others know all your secrets. Do you understand?"

Jiang Qiao nodded. "I understand. My father is no stranger; he is the family member who gave me life. Therefore, I will not hold anything back from him."

This one sentence deeply moved Gu Zhengfeng. Look, she's still his own daughter, and she's so close to him.

He patted his daughter's cheek and said, "Our Qiao'er is so smart. If there's anything you need to tell Daddy, this will be our secret, okay?"

Jiang Qiao nodded. "Okay, I'll listen to Dad. I'll tell you anything in the future, but I won't tell Mom."

Gu Zhengfeng grinned, mainly because he was happy. In his daughter's heart, he, as her father, was more beloved than Wen Jingwan, as her mother.

"Dad, go back and get some help. I can manage on my own. I'm worried about you staying here. Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'll protect myself. I'm not even afraid of wild boars—"

Gu Zhengfeng wasn't without hesitation, but his daughter's eyes gave him confidence. He was also afraid that his daughter would get lost. What if he didn't find her and lost the child? Wouldn't his wife hold him accountable?

"Okay, girl, you behave yourself. If a large prey comes, you climb the tree. Do you know how to climb a tree?"

Jiang Qiao nodded and waved to him, "See you later, Dad. You should go back now."

Gu Zhengfeng wasn't one to dawdle; after weighing the pros and cons, he took off running.

Jiang Qiao wasn't idle either. She saw a lot of wild vegetables and quickly started picking them. Some of the varieties weren't available where she lived, so she simply planted some in her space.

She didn't let any good herbs slip by, and today Jiang Qiao was lucky enough to dig up a nearly mature He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum), which made her very excited.

Just as she finished planting the Polygonum multiflorum in the space, she heard Gu Zhengfeng calling her from afar.

"Dad, I'm here—"

Hearing his daughter's answer, Gu Zhengfeng finally felt relieved. On the way back, he regretted it. Those prey were no match for his daughter. How could he be so stupid as to leave his daughter on the mountain to watch the prey?

Because of this, Wen Jingwan complained to her husband. She had prepared a meal and was waiting for the two of them to come back, but her husband ruined her good mood. Worried, Wen Jingwan also came to look for her daughter.

After hearing her child's clear and crisp reply, she, as a mother, finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Gu Zhengfeng smiled ingratiatingly at his wife, "See, the child is fine. You're just scaring yourself."
