Aunt Liu quickly pulled Jiang Qiao towards the field, and even greeted the police officers when she saw them.
"Auntie, how is your child?"
Over time, everyone got to know her. Whenever someone asked, Aunt Liu would wave her hand and say, "Oh dear, I've met a miracle doctor! He just treated my child and we're waiting for her to recover. Thank you all for your concern."
The prison guard looked at Aunt Liu with surprise. She looked refreshed and had a smile on her face, clearly not lying.
Moreover, the comrade they sent to visit had said that the child was probably not going to make it, but unexpectedly, things took a turn for the better and the child is about to recover.
"Sister-in-law, you're not lying to me, are you?"
"Would I joke about something like this? It's really healed, and the child even ate quite a bit at lunch."
The prison guard stared intently at Aunt Liu. "Sister-in-law, where is that miracle doctor? Can you tell me? I need to find him. You've all heard about my mother's health issues—"
Aunt Liu slapped her forehead. "How could I have forgotten about that? The miracle doctor is right here! Girl, come here quickly—"
Jiang Qiao was focused on the search for her uncle by this group of people, so she had no time to pay attention to anything else.
She only came to her senses when Aunt Liu called her over.
"What's wrong?"
Aunt Liu quickly introduced her, "This is your Uncle Liu. We're from the same clan. Your uncle was able to get in to work because of him. His mother has been suffering from stroke and her body is numb. Do you have any ideas on how to treat her? If you have any thoughts, you can talk to your Uncle Liu about it."
Jiang Qiao stared intently at the person in front of her, then smiled, and suddenly turned her head and shouted, "Gu Hanting—"
That one sound made everyone inside turn their heads to look this way, then lower their heads and continue working. Only one person stood still, glancing at her frequently.
Jiang Qiao waved to the other person, then turned to the prison guard and said, "Uncle Liu, can I talk to that person right here in front of you? You can watch. I'm not going to do anything. It's just that his elderly family member wants to know about him before he dies. I'm here on someone's behalf."
The prison guards were surprised that Jiang Qiao would pull such a stunt, and they looked Jiang Qiao up and down.
"Little girl, I underestimated you. It turns out you've been waiting here all along."
Jiang Qiao bowed to the other party and said, "I'm sorry, I had no choice. I didn't know there was a problem here. You wouldn't let me in, so I had no way of knowing anything about this person. I haven't even met him yet. How am I supposed to go back and explain this to my elders?"
On the other hand, the person was right under your noses. What could we do? We've punished them all. Murder is just a matter of beheading someone. We can't let the family not even know anything about their son, can we?
In my opinion, this is absolutely inhumane. What crime has the old man committed? Wanting to know about his son, wanting peace of mind before he dies—what's wrong with that?
"this--"
The other party hesitated. Jiang Qiao's words made sense, but this Gu Zhengkai seemed to have a complicated identity. The higher-ups were also investigating him, which was why they didn't allow him to communicate with the outside world.
He looked at Jiang Qiao with a serious expression and said, "To be honest, Gu Zhengkai is a wanted criminal. There are orders from above not to let him have any private contact with outsiders. I really can't help you with this."
Jiang Qiao gave a wry smile. "Actually, you don't need to help with anything. Just let him come and work so I can see him. As for the rest, I'll handle it through proper channels with your prison leadership. What do you think?"
The prison guard hesitated for a moment, then nodded readily and waved to Gu Zhengkai.
As her uncle slowly approached, Jiang Qiao's eyes suddenly widened.
There was no other reason than that she recognized the somewhat aged man in front of her; he had been a great help to her in obtaining intelligence and escaping back then.
But he didn't seem to have this name back then. She remembered that he was called Gu Kai. Could it be that her uncle's identity really had a problem?
Gu Zhengkai ran over excitedly, he was really running, panting heavily.
When they saw that someone had arrived, prison guard Liu ordered Gu Zhengkai to pull weeds right under his nose.
Jiang Qiao stared at her uncle, who was dressed in tattered clothes, and her eyes welled up with tears.
"You don't need to say anything, my name is Qiao'er, just listen to me—"
Gu Zhengkai was stunned by the name Qiao'er. He looked up at Jiang Qiao and became more and more alarmed the more he looked at her. If he remembered correctly, he had a niece who was also named Qiao'er, but she had been lost.
Jiang Qiao nodded at him, "My parents don't have time to come. It's not that they don't want to come see you, it's just that they won't let us see you if they come. Your dad and the child are both fine, and we will help take care of them. Your dad misses you very much. He asked me to tell you that he will live well and try to wait for you to come back."
We don't know what happened to you. At first there were letters, but then there were none. Your family was worried, so I came here—"
Seeing Gu Zhengkai in tears, Jiang Qiao's voice choked up, "We all know you're a good person. If you can't prove you're a good person, then we'll find a way to prove it."
With tears streaming down his face, Gu Zhengkai shook his head and said in a low voice, "It's no use. The online and offline accounts are gone, and we can't find anyone to vouch for us."
With just this one sentence, Jiang Qiao understood everything; her uncle's identity could very well be that of an undercover agent.
"Whether it works or not, we will try our best. I will try to see your leader here. Don't worry, I will stay here for a few days. If anything comes up, we can talk about it later."
Everything is fine at home. We're looking forward to your return soon. Please take good care of yourself. I brought you some clothes and supplies, but I'm not sure if I can get them in. I'll try my best. Take care.
Then he looked up at Prison Guard Liu and asked, "Where is your mother? When can I get her treatment?"
Jiang Qiao's words surprised the prison guard Liu again. He didn't expect that the little girl would still remember this matter after seeing the person.
"Little girl, are you sure you can cure this illness?"
Jiang Qiao nodded seriously. "Don't worry, if it can't be cured, I won't take it on. There's one more thing I need to trouble Uncle Liu with. When you get back, please report to your superiors and tell them that I have something important to tell them."
I'm currently staying at Aunt Liu's house. You can come find me after you get off work.
Prison guard Liu nodded with some doubt. Although he couldn't figure out what the young girl wanted to tell her superior, he would try his best to pass it on. Whether the superior would see her or not was not his problem.
He had heard what Gu Zhengkai said earlier, and it seemed that this person really had something to hide. However, his current identity was that of a prison guard, and he did not have the authority to handle matters related to interrogation.
"Okay, I'll do my best. If it doesn't work out, don't blame me. I'll come find you after get off work."
Not only did prison guard Liu have doubts, but even Gu Zhengkai had the same thought. If he wasn't mistaken, the child in front of him should be his lost niece.
But how did they find this child? How did she end up here? And how could her brother and the others have let her come alone?
