Looking at the children in front of her, who were about the same age as her, Jiang Qiao wanted to facepalm. However, seeing the children's bright eyes looking at her, she couldn't show her thoughts in front of them, even if she had them.
Do you know how to cast a net?
Everyone shook their heads, but Qi Lin looked intently at Jiang Qiao and said, "We can catch fish, and we can swim."
Jiang Qiao sighed, "Such a big reservoir, you dare to go down in, but I wouldn't dare let you swim."
"Alright, whether it works or not, let's go over and try. Did you bring the fishing net?"
Qi Xiang nodded hurriedly, "Yes, yes, Jiang Qiao, shall we set off now?"
Jiang Qiao waved her hand and shouted, "Let's go!"
The Qi brothers and their friends left with Jiang Qiao. The kids didn't have many thoughts on it. Their captain had told them to discuss anything with Jiang Qiao, and in their minds, Jiang Qiao was a capable person. They believed that city kids must know more than they did.
The two Qi brothers trusted Jiang Qiao unconditionally. They had enjoyed many good things with Jiang Qiao before, and their families even made money from it. They hadn't seen Jiang Qiao for almost a year, and it would be a lie to say they didn't miss her. They especially hoped that Jiang Qiao would come soon, because her arrival would bring them hope.
Looking at the children, Jiang Qiao sighed, took out some hard candy from her pocket, and handed it to Qi Xiang. "Give them all out, two pieces each. When the time comes, everyone listen to my instructions. Only those who obey will get fish."
With candy to eat, the kids looked at Jiang Qiao with even more fervor. If they weren't still children, she would have almost thought they had designs on her.
Jiang Qiao didn't know the place, but the kids knew the way, so they led Jiang Qiao into the mountains in a grand procession.
Actually, the reservoir is located between two mountains, but this place is not Gujia Village; on the contrary, it is quite a distance away.
Jiang Xiuqi was afraid that these people would attract too much attention if they went there, so he had the children carry baskets and rakes, which would give the impression that they were just going up the mountain to gather grass.
When they arrived, even Jiang Qiao was surprised to find that the reservoir was larger than she had imagined. It was practically a huge lake, and one that seemed to stretch endlessly.
They were at the gate, a place she felt was not entirely safe. Even if no one was watching, there would always be someone on duty. She decided to walk further in and bypass the area. However, pushing the cart into the mountains was inconvenient, so she simply had someone gather grass to cover the cart to prevent it from getting stolen.
With the fishing net and the group of children, Jiang Qiao went around to the other side of the reservoir. Sure enough, they could see fish. They were all excited and wanted to take off their clothes and go in, but Jiang Qiao stopped them.
"Don't rush, let's throw something in as bait, then we'll cast the net. The first catch will be grilled for everyone."
No one disagreed with the suggestion; having fish to eat was great, but they really didn't have any bait. They couldn't even feed themselves, let alone have any extra food to feed the fish.
Just because they don't have it doesn't mean Jiang Qiao doesn't. She has it in her bag—cornmeal mixed with sesame oil. She sprinkles it into the water, and quite a few fish come over, scrambling to eat it. Jiang Qiao puts her hand into the water, and others can't see anything, but only she knows that most of the fish are swimming this way because of the space spring water.
"So many fish!"
The children on the shore stared wide-eyed, waiting for Jiang Qiao's instructions.
"Bring the net—"
To be honest, Jiang Qiao wasn't very skilled at casting nets, but compared to these teenagers, she was quite experienced. Jiang Qiao had her friends watch from the side and explained things to them.
With one cast, the net caught quite a few fish. "Quick, help me pull in the net—"
Don't let their young age fool you; they're all still young boys. With everyone working together, pulling the net wasn't difficult for them. The key thing is that the net caught more fish than they had ever imagined.
The lively fish were pulled ashore, eliciting gasps of surprise from the boys.
"Put all the fish in the net and quickly cast the second net."
With Jiang Qiao directing and assisting them, the second net, though smaller than the first, was still considered very good by the children.
Jiang Qiao quickly started a fire to grill the fish. She was so well-prepared, even laying out all the seasonings. Even Qi Xiang and the others admired her. Coming with Jiang Qiao was a sure way to avoid any losses.
"Alright, we can eat fish now. Hurry up, everyone get one fish. I'll go watch over it and sprinkle some fish food."
Jiang Qiao only ate a few bites before handing the rest to the boy next to her, and then she went to scatter fish food.
The little boy was still a bit flattered. Qi Xiang patted him on the shoulder and said, "Eat up. Jiang Qiao gave it to you. Just eat it. If it's not enough, we'll bake some more."
Jiang Qiao took the opportunity to store some fish in her own space as well. She had just tasted the fish and found it to be quite good.
After casting the net twice, Jiang Qiao figured the cart could only carry so much.
Seeing that everyone had almost finished eating, Jiang Qiao waved her hand and said, "Hurry up and transport them back. Give each person who came today two extra fish."
"Oh, Jiang Qiao, really? Do you mean it?"
Jiang Qiao said loudly, "I keep my word. I'll string all yours together with straw and put them in separate baskets. You can take them home directly. Okay, hurry up and go. I'll watch the fish here. Also, leave someone to watch the cart. Hurry up and go."
Jiang Qiao stayed behind to clean up the battlefield, at least to prevent anyone from knowing that they were secretly fishing there.
When they left the mountain, Jiang Qiao made sure everyone was disguised, so that no one could tell that the cart was full of fish.
We were all incredibly excited to have fish for dinner and head home.
After all, they did something big today. With these fish, at least the family won't have to go to bed hungry tonight.
However, things went wrong halfway there, and Jiang Qiao and her group encountered two men.
"Stop! What's in your car?"
Qi Xiang grabbed Jiang Qiao, "Oh no! Those two are notorious scoundrels in the area. What should we do? If they find out, this whole thing might get exposed."
Jiang Qiao whispered a few words to Qi Xiang, then walked over and looked him up and down. He was so thin, like a skinny monkey. She really couldn't tell how a scoundrel could be.
"It's none of your business. Who are you? Let them go first—"
Qi Xiang quickly told his younger brother to lead the others to push the car away, while the two men tried to grab the car and prevent it from leaving.
However, Jiang Qiao pushed her away abruptly, saying, "What are you doing? Trying to rob someone in broad daylight?"
The man sized Jiang Qiao up and down, then asked disdainfully, "Who are you? Don't you know who I, Wang Datou, am? Damn it, get out of my way."
Jiang Qiao could clearly smell the alcohol on the other person. It was obvious that these two had been drinking and were like drunkards, impossible to reason with.
He turned around and started to walk back, but the two scoundrels wouldn't let Jiang Qiao leave. They grabbed him, but they didn't expect Jiang Qiao to react so quickly. She threw a punch and made Wang Datou stagger back a few steps.
Another man saw that Wang Datou was at a disadvantage, so he quickly came over to help, but Jiang Qiao grabbed his arm and pulled him away.
He shouted at the two men, "How dare you act like a hooligan in broad daylight? Qi Xiang, call the rest of our team over here!"
