Ning Ailin hesitated for a moment, then walked over and stood in front of Wang Zhongquan. This man was someone she had loved with almost her entire life. Unfortunately, she had loved the wrong person and misjudged him. She was blind, truly blind. How could she have fallen for such a thing?
She raised her hand and slapped Wang Zhongquan twice hard. "Wang Zhongquan, let me tell you, you're a fucking scumbag. I was blind to have followed a bastard like you. Try bullying me again. With my nephew and niece-in-law by my side, I, Ning Ailin, am not afraid of you."
And you better remember this: even though the child doesn't live with me, you better behave yourself. If you dare do anything to my child, I'll fight you to the death. You'd better watch out.
After saying that, Ning Ailin slung her bag over her shoulder and turned to leave without the slightest hesitation.
For so many years, she lived in constant fear in this family. Unfortunately, her best years were wasted, and only now does she understand.
As Ning Ailin walked, tears streamed down her face. Thinking back to the advice her mother had given her, she regretted it. If she had seen things clearly earlier, she wouldn't have ended up in this situation. It was all her own doing.
Fu Lin had already borrowed a cart from the neighbor and, together with Ning Hao and the others, loaded all the things onto the cart.
"Qiao'er, let's go—"
Jiang Qiao coldly sized up the people in the courtyard. "From now on, you all better keep your tails between your legs. It's true that my grandfather was a landlord, but what landlords do is far more benevolent than what you people do. Every child he raised has contributed to this country. You are all scoundrels, worse than bullies. What makes you think you can compare to my grandfather? You are not worthy."
After saying those words, he turned and left. Once Jiang Qiao was out of sight, Old Mrs. Wang's legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground.
"What terrible things have I done?!"
The onlookers scoffed, "You reap what you sow. You know in your hearts what you've sown."
Wang Zhongquan was slapped twice by Ning Hailin and is still in shock. This woman actually dared to hit him; it all feels like a dream.
However, thinking of Jiang Qiao's cold gaze, Wang Zhongquan couldn't help but shudder. Only he himself knew whether he was afraid or not.
This was the first time he had ever seen Jiang Qiao like this. The insignificant little girl from before had turned into someone who was no different from a demon.
If he dares to chase after her now, Jiang Qiao will probably not let him off the hook.
She shook her head. "Never mind, Mother. It's better that she's gone. We can still live our lives without her."
The people outside all shook their heads and then dispersed.
After Jiang Qiao and Ning Hao left, she wasn't in the mood to think about what was going on with the Wang family. Since she had already decided to let Ning Ailin get a divorce, she was mentally prepared for it.
Jiang Qiao sighed, "I really didn't expect the Wang family to be such scoundrels. I was just being naive."
Ning Hao gave a wry smile. "I didn't tell you before because I felt I had nothing to do with them and there was no need for it. I didn't expect that you would still have to stand up for me in the end. Thinking about it, I'm quite useless as a man."
Fu Lin came over and patted Ning Hao on the shoulder. "Brother, you can't think like that. What can you do if you're surrounded by those old ladies? I wouldn't know what to do either. You can't hit them or scold them."
It's better if Jiang Qiao steps in; let them all experience what it's like to be terrified.
Jiang Qiao sighed, "What's the use of being scared out of your wits? The Ning family's daughter lost her youth and her child, and in the end, she almost had to leave with nothing. Speaking of which, the one who lost the most should be Ning Hao's aunt, sigh—"
Ning Hao glanced at his aunt who was crying in front of him, and he didn't know what to say.
"Let's go, you take your aunt home first, there's still a sick person at home."
"Oh right, my dad's back. I have to go back and cook for them. Why don't you guys find a car and take the stuff back first? Don't throw it away. This is all Mom's hard work."
Ning Hao wasn't naive; he had already figured out that these chests and cabinets were old items made of good wood, so how could they possibly have been thrown away?
Upon hearing that Ning Hao's father-in-law had returned, Fu Lin urged Ning Hao to go back with Jiang Qiao.
“We’ll take our time, it’s fine. Your father-in-law is back, you go and keep him company. I’ll find a car to take us back in a bit.”
Ning Hao disagreed, "It's okay, my father-in-law won't be picky about this. My buddies, come and help me, how could I possibly run away halfway? I'll go with you guys."
Jiang Qiao ignored Ning Hao, called out to Ning Ailin in front, pulled her into the car, and the two of them drove off first.
She wasn't in the mood to try and persuade Ning Ailin. Everyone has to walk their own path, and if she couldn't see things clearly, she could only blame herself.
I sped back home. "Auntie, you go home first. Don't cook lunch, I'll bring it to you. I have guests at home, so I won't entertain you. Try to think positively. There's no hurdle you can't overcome. What's this? You're not the one suffering the most. There are people who suffer even more than you. If they can get through it, why can't you?"
"You have to walk your own path. You need to think carefully about how to proceed from here on out. You're not a child anymore, and your parents are getting old. Don't worry them. I'm going back to my room."
Jiang Qiao couldn't say more. She and Ning Ailin didn't have any feelings for each other to begin with, and now that things have gone this far, isn't Ning Ailin responsible for her own actions?
Jiang Qiao just didn't say anything; she had her own work and life, and didn't have the extra energy to care about other people's business.
Ning Ailin nodded, turned around and went to her parents' house, while Jiang Qiao hurried to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
Gu Zhengfeng, judging from the sound, guessed that his daughter had returned. He came out to check and asked, "What happened? You were gone for so long, what happened?"
It wasn't that Gu Zhengfeng was being paranoid, but his daughter's personality was such that she was usually quite serious about what she did. It was almost noon before she came back, which wasn't like Jiang Qiao at all.
While cooking, Jiang Qiao said, "Don't even mention it. On the way, we went to Ning Hao's aunt's house. Ning Ailin got divorced. She finished the procedures today and was about to pick up her things, but the other party wouldn't let her."
Luckily, I went there with Fu Lin and the others; otherwise, who knows what might have happened.
"Dad, please go back to your room and sit down. It'll be ready in a little while. Have something simple for lunch, and I'll cook you something nice for dinner."
Gu Zhengfeng sighed, "You got into a fight, didn't you?"
Jiang Qiao snorted, "If we don't take action, we won't be able to come back. Those old women are going crazy. They don't dare to do anything to Ning Hao because he's a man. They even pulled Ning Hao away. I don't have time to waste with them. I scared a few people, but it's fine. The matter is already resolved."
Gu Zhengfeng patted his daughter and said, "Don't be angry. There's nothing we can do when things happen like this. Dad will lend you a hand."
Jiang Qiao smiled and shook her head, pushing Gu Zhengfeng out. "It'll be ready soon. I have some ready-made. I have my daughter in stock. When you come, I'll have an excuse to take it out. You can cover for me later."
Gu Zhengfeng, still not entirely at ease, added a couple more words of advice: "Don't take anything too conspicuous. No matter how capable your father is, there are some things I just can't get my hands on."
Jiang Qiao smiled and said, "Don't worry, I guarantee you can get them all. Come on in, is my Grandpa Qiao back yet?"
Gu Zhengfeng nodded. "They're drinking tea inside. Hurry up and make more. Haozi's friend is also having someone stay for dinner."
