Chapter 15 Because We're Deskmates

Chapter 15 Because We're Deskmates

Having not seen her grandmother for a long time, Jiang Wan was a little reluctant to leave after having dinner at the villa.

She chatted with her grandmother for a while longer, until the old lady couldn't stay awake any longer and wanted to sleep. Only then did Shan Tong urge her to go home quickly.

This resulted in Jiang Wan spending the entire Sunday at home frantically doing her homework, not finishing until the early hours of the morning.

For 28-year-old Jiang Wan, working overtime and staying up late is nothing, but she is now a senior high school student, and the day after staying up late—

I have to get up early for school!

Even the alarm clock couldn't wake her up; in the end, Ms. Shan Tong had to drag her out of bed.

After quickly washing up and changing into her school uniform, she didn't have time to sit down and eat breakfast slowly. She packed a boiled egg and a sandwich into her schoolbag and rushed off to school.

I ran into the classroom just as the morning reading bell rang, and I wasn't late.

Jiang Wan breathed a long sigh of relief, but unfortunately, she hadn't had time to eat breakfast yet.

Zhou Chong was already seated with an English book open in front of him. When he noticed Jiang Wan approaching, he turned his head and glanced at her.

Jiang Wan smiled at him and quickly pulled out her chair to sit down.

When the bell rang, the classroom was filled with the sounds of students reciting their lessons.

Jiang Wan has a very good foundation in English. After starting work, she used English as her primary language, and the vocabulary required for the college entrance examination was more than sufficient.

Therefore, rather than blindly following the crowd and memorizing a few English words, Jiang Wan felt it was more important to eat breakfast first.

She casually opened her English book and quietly took out an insulated bag from her schoolbag.

Before tearing off the plastic wrap from the sandwich, she made a point of greeting Zhou Chong, "I'm having breakfast, you shouldn't mind, right?"

Zhou Chong shook his head and simply said, "Open the window a little, so the smell won't attract attention."

"good."

Jiang Wan opened a small window and then took a bite of her sandwich.

With its cheeks puffed out and lips pursed, its chewing motion resembled that of some small animal.

Zhou Chong glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, and after a while, he inexplicably thought of the little hamster.

Jiang Wan was so engrossed in her meal that she didn't notice Zhou Chong's gaze at all, nor did she notice when the English teacher quietly entered the classroom.

"Ahem." Zhou Chong suddenly coughed.

Jiang Wan didn't pay any attention, assuming he was just clearing his throat because he had been memorizing vocabulary for too long.

Just as she was about to take another bite of the sandwich, Zhou Chong coughed forcefully again.

"What's wrong? Is your throat sore?" Jiang Wan put down her sandwich and took a throat lozenge out of her pocket. "Here, take this."

Zhou Chong glanced at the candy offered to him, then helplessly held up his English book, blocking her outstretched hand. "The teacher is here."

Jiang Wan looked up suddenly and saw the English teacher patrolling the first few rows.

She quickly tossed the throat lozenge onto Zhou Chong's desk, stuffed the sandwich into the desk drawer with her other hand, and hurriedly held up the English book in front of her, just like Zhou Chong.

The English teacher also looked up at that moment and walked towards the last two rows.

Zhou Chong lowered his eyes, hesitated for a moment, and before the English teacher could get close, he quickly grabbed the foil-wrapped throat lozenge in his hand.

He glanced to the side unconsciously and noticed that Jiang Wan was holding the book upside down.

"you……"

He was about to speak up to remind her when Jiang Wan interrupted him with a "shh".

"Don't talk, the teacher will be here soon."

Jiang Wan hid her entire face behind the book, her index finger to her lips, her eyes cautiously following the English teacher's location, without glancing at the book in front of her.

The English teacher walked to the last row in a few steps.

Jiang Wan quickly lowered her eyes. Just as she realized she was holding the book upside down, her English teacher also noticed.

"Knock knock knock".

The English teacher tapped on her desk.

Jiang Wan understood what she meant, and quickly turned the book upside down and began to read the text aloud.

The English teacher glanced at her, but in the end said nothing, turned around and walked out of the classroom.

Jiang Wan was still shaken, unsure if she had escaped unscathed, but she didn't dare to slack off during the second half of the morning reading session and read diligently until the end of get out of class.

As soon as the bell rang to end the morning reading session, Jiang Wan closed her book and listlessly slumped onto the table.

Zhou Chong thought for a moment, then lowered his head and asked her, "What's wrong?"

"I was holding the book upside down, and the teacher caught me red-handed," Jiang Wan sighed.

Zhou Chong moved his lips, unsure of what to say.

He tried to warn her, but she stopped him, and then it was too late.

"Luckily, you reminded me that the teacher was coming. Otherwise, if I had been caught eating breakfast, I probably wouldn't have been let off so easily."

Jiang Wan smiled at him, straightened up, and took out the leftover sandwich from under the table.

It had gone cold. She took a bite, and the toast was no longer soft. The fried egg yolk inside made her throat dry.

She clenched her fist and pounded her chest twice before swallowing the sandwich.

Zhou Chong sat beside her, able to see her every move clearly.

He gripped the throat lozenge in his hand, got up, and walked out.

Jiang Wan assumed he had gone to the restroom and didn't pay much attention. She finished the rest of her sandwich and then took her water glass to the water room.

When she returned, Zhou Chong had already gone back to his seat.

On her table, there was now a bottle of plum juice.

"Who put this on my desk?" Jiang Wan picked up the jar of plum blossoms and turned to Zhou Chong, asking, "Did you see it?"

Zhou Chong pursed his lips, his expression somewhat unnatural.

Jiang Wan thought he probably hadn't seen it, since he had just gone out, so she decided to ask Zhang Chi and Li Yang at the table in front of her.

Just as she was about to call for help, Zhou Chong suddenly spoke up: "I gave it to you."

Jiang Wan was stunned for a moment, then looked down at the plum orchard in her hand, seemingly in disbelief, and asked again, "Did you give this to me?"

"Mm." Zhou Chong nodded gently.

Jiang Wan thanked him, still a little confused, then asked, "Why did you give me this?"

The last time he gave her a bottle of Nescafé was because she had given him a bottle of Plum Garden the day before. What about this time?

Could it be because she just gave him a throat lozenge?

Does one piece of candy have to be returned as a bottle of milk?

Did he really need to be so calculating with her?

Zhou Chong thought for a moment and explained, "Nestlé coffee was out of stock, so I bought this instead. I see you like it quite a bit."

"I really like drinking this." Jiang Wan nodded, then asked with a smile, "But I want to ask, why did you buy me milk?"

Zhou Chong fell silent.

He lowered his eyes, turned his face away, and began looking for the textbook he would need for the next class.

But Jiang Wan had no intention of letting him off the hook. She didn't have a chance to ask him in front of Sun Qianyu last time, but this time she was going to ask him properly.

"Is it because I gave you a piece of candy just now?" Jiang Wan tilted her head and leaned closer to him. "Did you not want to owe me a favor, so you specially went to buy a bottle of my favorite plum juice?"

"But it's just a piece of candy, it's not worth the same as milk. If you think about it, I still owe you more. In that case, shouldn't we do some math..."

Zhou Chong seemed annoyed by her. He looked up at her incessant mouth and asked, "Aren't you thirsty?"

"Huh?" Jiang Wan was taken aback. "I think... I'm a little thirsty."

As she spoke, she reached for the water glass she had just filled with water.

At that moment, Zhou Chong picked up the straw on the table.

With a "plop," the straw was inserted into the seal of the Liziyuan milk bottle.

The milk bottle was still in Jiang Wan's hand.

Zhou Chong held the bottle by the bottom and lifted it up slightly. "Drink it if you're thirsty."

The straw was naturally brought to Jiang Wan's lips, and she opened her mouth to take a sip of the sweet milk.

"Therefore, Zhou Chong."

"Hmm?" Zhou Chong wondered what else Jiang Wan wanted to ask.

"You didn't buy me milk just because of that candy, did you?"

Zhou Chong paused for a moment, then said, "No."

So what exactly is the reason?

Jiang Wan didn't want to ask anymore.

That's enough.

Because they are classmates.
