Chapter 57 I plan to study with you
The first and second year high school students were already on vacation, and the classrooms downstairs were mostly empty. Jiang Wan and Zhou Chong planned to find an empty classroom and sit there while waiting for the parent-teacher conference to end.
As soon as Jiang Wan reached the second floor, she casually opened the door to the classroom at the corner of the stairs and saw two familiar figures.
Sun Qianyu and Jiang Shengming were sitting together in the last row of the classroom when they heard the noise coming from the doorway and turned to look at Jiang Wan.
Jiang Shengming's eyes showed a slight surprise, while Sun Qianyu's eyes showed a resentment similar to that of a date being forcibly interrupted.
Jiang Wan gave an awkward twitch of her lips. "Um... sorry, please continue."
As she spoke, she backed away, saying, "I'll close the door for you."
Zhou Chong leaned forward, puzzled. "What's wrong? Is someone inside?"
Jiang Wan shushed him, signaling him not to ask any questions, and quickly stepped back to close the door.
As she stepped back, she accidentally stepped on Zhou Chong's shoe, lost her footing, and fell backward into his arms.
Zhou Chong didn't have time to react and quickly steadied the person in his arms.
Jiang Wan's heart skipped a beat. The hands encircling her shoulders were warm, and even through her thick winter school uniform, she could feel the broad and warm chest pressed against her back.
My chest was pounding rapidly.
She blinked blankly, trying to suppress the wild beating of her heart, after all, this was hardly a hug.
Zhou Chong simply supported her from behind, holding her shoulders and only wrapping his arms around half of her body.
Only half.
It was no different from when she accidentally bumped into him while changing seats and moving desks in the classroom. The only difference was that this time, she immediately turned around to confirm whether the person was Zhou Chong.
Now, she didn't need to turn around; she was certain that the familiar warmth behind her belonged to Zhou Chong.
She didn't turn around, and Zhou Chong didn't let go of her hand.
At this moment, time seemed to stand still, the silent, tacit understanding ticking away, replacing the second hand as it moved forward step by step.
After what seemed like an eternity, Zhou Chong finally loosened his grip on her wrist and steadied her. "Are you alright?"
"Hmm, it's okay." Jiang Wan steadied herself on the ground, took a deep breath, and slowly turned around.
She gave Zhou Chongyang a gossipy smile, pointed to the closed classroom door behind her, and said softly, "Sun Qianyu and Jiang Shengming are inside. Let's go somewhere else."
Zhou Chongwei paused for a second, then quickly nodded and left with Jiang Wan.
The two walked in the opposite direction along the corridor, and when they were almost at the end of the corridor, they turned into an empty classroom.
After entering the classroom, the two sat down side by side in the last row by the window, just like they would in their own classroom.
Zhou Chong naturally took out a test paper, intending to do his winter vacation homework for a while. Jiang Wan glanced at him, opened her schoolbag, and randomly pulled out a test paper.
No one mentioned the hug that hadn't really felt like a hug.
The paper in Jiang Wan's hand was an English test paper. She wrote it with ease, and she didn't need to write the final essay. She finished the first part in less than forty minutes.
There should still be a while before the parent-teacher meeting ends, and she hasn't received a text message from her mother yet, but she estimates it won't be long, since it's already past five o'clock.
There wasn't enough time left to complete another test, so Jiang Wan thought for a moment, then picked up her phone and sent a message to her mother, telling her that they were in the second classroom on the east side of the second floor.
After sending the message, she looked up and saw Zhou Chong tidying up the test paper he had just finished. When he turned his head, his gaze lingered on her phone for a second.
She keenly caught that moment, raised her phone and waved it at him, "You brought your phone today too, didn't you?"
As she swayed, the little white rabbit hanging on her phone shook its head in the air.
Zhou Chong nodded. "Yes, I brought it."
Jiang Wan was asking a question she already knew the answer to; otherwise, how could Zhou Chong have received a call from his mother saying that she couldn't come to the parent-teacher conference that afternoon?
Normally, students are not allowed to bring cell phones to school, but today is the last day before the holiday, and there is a parent-teacher meeting. In order to make it easier to contact parents, Lao Fan tacitly allowed them to bring their cell phones to school.
Throughout the day, Jiang Wan didn't have much of a chance to take out her phone, nor did she see Zhou Chong take it out.
Until now.
She had a sudden inspiration: "Why don't you send a message to your mom saying that you had dinner with your classmates before going home, so she doesn't have to worry? She might get anxious if she doesn't see you when she gets home."
Zhou Chong moved his lips, wanting to say that his mother wouldn't be home that early, and even if she was, she wouldn't be worried if she didn't see him. But somehow, the words that came out of his mouth were just a "okay".
He took out his phone and bent down to type a text message for his mother.
I had just sent the message when I suddenly heard a "click".
His gaze paused, landing on the little gray rabbit hanging at the bottom of the phone.
The gray rabbit, which had been all alone, was now snuggled up to another white rabbit, their faces pressed together.
The culprit, however, was quite pleased with himself, waving his phone from side to side and pulling on two little rabbits that were stuck together, swaying them back and forth as well.
As soon as Zhou Chong looked up, Jiang Wan's face loomed large in front of him.
His heart suddenly skipped a beat.
Too close.
Jiang Wan tilted her head and leaned her arm against the table, holding her phone in her other hand. Seemingly to accommodate the length of the phone chain, she moved her whole body next to him.
It's only a few tens of centimeters away.
That's true, how long can a phone chain be?
Although the two were deskmates in the classroom, in front of other classmates and teachers, they almost never let their elbows go beyond the gap between the two desks.
The way we meet on weekends and holidays is different.
But they are still at school, still in the classroom, only it's not their classroom anymore.
Jiang Wan smiled broadly, her delicate chin nestled in her school uniform collar, and winked at him mischievously and playfully.
Zhou Chong's Adam's apple bobbed, but he didn't say a word, waiting at this distance for her to speak.
"Isn't the little bunny cute?" Jiang Wan said, waving her phone in her hand.
Two little rabbits, one gray and one white, are sticking together, shaking their heads.
Zhou Chong gave a soft "hmm," and said, "It's alright."
"Is it just okay?" Jiang Wan pouted, seemingly dissatisfied. "Try separating them."
Zhou Chong lowered his eyes as instructed and gently parted the two little rabbits that were touching with his fingers.
However, as soon as he let go, the two little rabbits snuggled together again.
Zhou Chong raised an eyebrow. It's a very simple principle.
"magnet?"
"Mmm." Jiang Wan's smile grew even brighter. "Now, am I cute?"
Zhou Chong slowly raised his eyes and looked at Jiang Wan, who was smiling brightly in front of him. For a moment, he didn't know whether she was asking if the rabbit was cute or if she was cute.
But he nodded. "Yes, cute."
Seemingly surprised by Zhou Chong's quick reply, Jiang Wan paused for a couple of seconds before inexplicably changing the subject.
What are your plans for winter break?
Zhou Chong looked into her eyes and slightly curved his lips into a smile. "I'm planning to help you with your studies, is that alright?"
Jiang Wan smiled and said, "Sure, let's meet at the city library tomorrow?"
"good."
