Chapter 91 Be Your Own Princess
Hearing Jiang Wan's voice, Shi Leyao turned around and looked at her with concern, "Jiang Wan, are you feeling better?"
"Yes, much better." Jiang Wan nodded with a smile.
"That's good." Shi Leyao breathed a sigh of relief and held up a stack of binding papers in her arms. "Here, take this."
Jiang Wan took it and saw that it was Shi Leyao's notebook for compiling basic Chinese language mistakes. The first half was about the pronunciation and form of characters, and the second half was about frequently tested words and phrases in classical Chinese poetry and prose.
A couple of days ago, the Chinese teacher praised Shi Leyao in class for her solid foundation, saying that she always got the basic questions right on tests.
Although Jiang Wan's Chinese was also good, the memorization foundation she made up for after being reborn was not as solid as the foundation she had built up over three years. Occasionally, she would still make a mistake on basic questions and lose some unnecessary points.
It's a pity, even though the score is very small.
So, while eating in the cafeteria that day, Jiang Wan casually chatted with Shi Leyao about this matter.
Jiang Wan's original intention was to ask her how she managed to get all the questions right on every exam, but Shi Leyao said that it was mainly because she had compiled a notebook of wrong questions from the first year of high school to the third year of high school. She would go through it before each exam and there would be basically no omissions. She also said that she could lend it to Jiang Wan for review.
Jiang Wan felt a little embarrassed, after all, it was a notebook of wrong questions that Shi Leyao had compiled herself, stroke by stroke, since the beginning of high school. She had no intention of borrowing it, so she never asked Shi Leyao to borrow it.
Unexpectedly, Shi Leyao actually made a copy for her and neatly bound it with binder clips and perfect binding thread.
"This...this is so kind of you." Jiang Wan flipped through the bound book in her hand. "How could I possibly use the error notebook you compiled directly?"
"It's nothing, I just copied it." Shi Leyao smiled and shook her head. "I hope it helps you."
"Yes, it's very helpful, thank you." Jiang Wan put away the notebook of wrong questions and pulled the schoolbag that Zhou Chong was carrying. "I'm sorry to trouble you to wait for me after evening self-study. You could have given it to me tomorrow, it wasn't urgent. You've delayed your way home."
Shi Leyao was slightly taken aback, and said softly, "Tomorrow... I've taken the day off."
Jiang Wan paused for a moment, slowly zipped up her backpack, and turned to look at her.
"I took three days off and won't be coming to school this week. I thought I should get it printed as soon as possible and give it to you tonight. Maybe it will help with the second mock exam next week." Shi Leyao looked up at Jiang Wan and gently bit her lower lip.
Jiang Wan knew without Shi Leyao explicitly stating it that she was going to do something by taking three days off.
"I wish you good luck in your interview." Jiang Wan patted Shi Leyao on the shoulder. "Go for it! You can do it!"
Shi Leyao bit her lip, blinked her moist eyes, slowly turned her head to look at Zhou Chong, then lowered her eyes and bowed her head in front of the two of them.
“I know it might be a bit early to say this, but…” Shi Leyao paused, then gave a deep bow, “Thank you.”
Jiang Wan was taken aback, turned her head and looked at Zhou Chong, then quickly put her arm around Shi Leyao's shoulder, "No... what are you thanking me for? I should be thanking you, you gave me the notebook of wrong questions that you've been working on for three years."
It would be understandable for Shi Leyao to thank Zhou Chong, but why was she thanking him so solemnly?
Jiang Wan couldn't understand what she had done that deserved Shi Leyao's gratitude.
Shi Leyao looked at Jiang Wan and shook her head vigorously. "The error notebook is a small matter, but Jiang Wan, you have helped me a lot. If it weren't for your encouragement to apply to Peking University, I wouldn't have been able to get such a good score in the mock exam. Besides, this spot wasn't originally meant for me..."
"Don't say that!" Jiang Wan reached out and covered Shi Leyao's mouth. "Who said you didn't do well on the exam? Who said this spot doesn't belong to you? This is what you deserve."
Shi Leyao kept shaking her head.
Jiang Wan released her grip, opened her arms, and pulled Shi Leyao into her embrace. "Although I have a cold, I really shouldn't hug you, it wouldn't be good if I infected you, but..."
Before she could finish saying "but," Zhou Chong suddenly spoke up and added, "A cold caused by wind or cold is not contagious; only viral colds are contagious."
Jiang Wan was taken aback, turned her head and glared at him, then turned back and hugged Shi Leyao, patting her gently. "Okay, Zhou Chong said it's not contagious anymore, so I can hug you without worry."
Shi Leyao was amused and hugged Jiang Wan back.
"Shi Leyao, listen to me." Jiang Wan said very seriously, "You are already very good and excellent. Whether you have my encouragement or not, you are a shining piece of gold. Your good performance in the mock exam and your high overall ranking are all due to your own strength."
"No, I've never been in the top five of my grade before, no matter how hard I try." Shi Leyao murmured, shaking her head. "This time it was just pure luck. If you hadn't failed your mock exam, if Zhou Chong hadn't given up his recommendation spot, I wouldn't have been able to..."
"Shi Leyao," Jiang Wan interrupted her, "These are all possibilities, but you can't deny your own efforts. Did we take the written exam for you?"
Shi Leyao paused for a moment, bit her lip, and shook her head.
"That's good. The written test for Peking University's independent admission is much more difficult than any mock exam. If you can pass the written test, it means you have the ability, and it has nothing to do with anyone else."
Shi Leyao stared blankly at Jiang Wan, "But, without you, I wouldn't even have had the chance to take the written test..."
"How can you say that?" Jiang Wan patted her head. "Not doing well on the mock exam was my own problem. No matter how you did, it's not my fault. As for Zhou Chong giving up..."
Jiang Wan paused, then looked back at Zhou Chong beside her. "That was his own decision, and it has nothing to do with you."
Zhou Chong raised his eyebrows slightly, indicating that Jiang Wan was right.
Shi Leyao choked up and didn't speak, but just bit her lower lip and stared at the sleeve of her school uniform.
Jiang Wan looked at her, then suddenly lowered her voice and asked, "Are you very nervous?"
Shi Leyao paused for a moment, then nodded honestly.
"Don't be nervous, believe in yourself." Jiang Wan smiled and raised her hand, giving her a cheering gesture. "You've already beaten most people by passing the written test, and I really believe in you."
Looking at Jiang Wan's smiling face, Shi Leyao couldn't hold back her emotions and suddenly threw herself into her arms, "But... I just feel like this is something I stole from you..."
As she spoke, she broke down in tears, "I'm simply not qualified for Peking University... If, if it were you, I would definitely have performed very well in the interview. If I wasted this opportunity, then... I'm so sorry to you..."
Jiang Wan gently held Shi Leyao, patting her back lightly until she calmed down a bit, before speaking softly:
"Actually, the interview is a two-way selection process. Just think of it as going to see if Kyoto University is really what you like. If you find that you don't like it, then don't go."
Shi Leyao leaned on Jiang Wan's shoulder and nodded blankly.
"Shi Leyao, you must remember this." Jiang Wan wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, "You are a wonderful girl, deserving of all the good things in the world. There is nothing that makes you unworthy or unworthy. As long as you like it and want it, then you deserve it."
Shi Leyao blinked, her moist eyes sparkling.
Jiang Wan smiled, winked at her, and whispered in her ear, "Every girl who thinks like this is a little princess in her own world. This is my secret."
"In your world, you are the only princess."
Shi Leyao stared intently at her reflection in the classroom window.
So, even a flower picker can become a princess?
