Chapter 19 I'm Willing to Lose to You

Chapter 19 I'm Willing to Lose to You

Fortunately, Jiang Wan's exam paper was right in his hands.

The score was as expected, and even somewhat unexpected.

That's the 150 points she boasted about before the exam.

The answers to math problems are usually quite clear. If you're sure you know how to do it, you're pretty much right, unless you're careless.

However, during the exam, there were one or two questions that Jiang Wan couldn't quite recall the relevant theorems, so she had to rely on her advanced mathematics knowledge to solve them.

So she wasn't quite sure if she could get a perfect score.

As it turns out, mathematics is interconnected; many formulas and theorems that I painstakingly memorized in high school can be re-derived after learning advanced mathematics.

It just took a little more time. One weekly test doesn't matter, but the college entrance exam is time-sensitive, and she still needs to study hard afterwards.

Jiang Wan took the test paper and walked back to her seat. The seat next to her was empty. Zhou Chong had not returned yet, and there was no test paper on his desk.

She looked up and saw Zhou Chong walking from the front row to the back, also holding a test paper in his hand.

Presumably, Zhou Chong's exam paper is also in his own hands.

The stack of test papers that Zhou Chongfa distributed came from her, which means that if he hadn't come to help her distribute the test papers, she would have distributed his papers as well.

That way she can find out their scores sooner.

This was her original intention in wanting to help distribute the test papers, but in the end, she still had to wait until all the papers were distributed before she knew.

Thinking of this, Jiang Wan looked at Zhou Chong with inexplicable resentment.

Zhou Chong caught her gaze and felt completely bewildered. He quickly walked back to her side and asked, "What's wrong?"

Jiang Wan glanced at the folded test paper in his hand, but instead of checking his score, she slapped her own perfect score paper onto his desk.

"So, I won, didn't I?"

Although she didn't know how many points Zhou Chong had scored, she had scored a perfect score. Could there be a score higher than 150?

It's impossible; at best, it'll be a draw.

Jiang Wan was chuckling when she saw Zhou Chong unfold the test paper in his hand.

The bright red score at the top of the first page is eye-catching.

A blatant 150.

Jiang Wan's smile faltered; it really was a draw.

How do you determine who wins and who loses?

Jiang Wan pouted and pulled her test paper back.

It's pointless.

It's interesting no matter who wins or loses, but it's not interesting if it ends in a draw.

This is so boring!

The math teacher on the podium also began to speak at this moment.

"Two students in our class got full marks on this week's test: Jiang Wan and Zhou Chong."

As soon as they finished speaking, applause erupted in the classroom, and most of the students turned to look at the two of them.

However, both of them seemed rather uninterested.

I have no interest in the teacher's praise, nor in the classmates' congratulations.

One person was idly twirling a pen, while the other watched the person next to him twirling a pen with a detached expression.

Wow, is this the mindset of a top student?

So cool!

I love it!

Zhang Chi watched Jiang Wan twirl her pen with effortless ease and gave her a thumbs up in admiration. "Wow, you got 150 on the test! Is taking the test like a voice-controlled game to you?"

Jiang Wan glanced at him and almost burst out laughing.

Then she thought of another 150 points, and suppressed her smile. "Why don't you ask him if getting 150 points is as easy as drinking water?"

Her gaze didn't veer to the right, but everyone knew who she was referring to as "he".

“Yeah.” Zhang Chi turned to look at Zhou Chong, met his cold gaze, and then turned his head back. “Zhou Chong always gets 150 on math tests. It’s easier for him than drinking water.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wan barely managed to suppress the urge to smash her pen against Zhang Chi's forehead.

This would make her seem silly for wanting to bet with Zhou Chong on her math score!

However, Jiang Wan thought about it and realized that Zhou Chong had indeed scored 150 points on the last math monthly exam, but she didn't know about the exams before that.

After all, she had only been back in the world for a few days. From her distant high school memories, she had no recollection of whether Zhou Chong always scored 150, only that he almost always scored higher than her.

She only had a vague, stereotypical impression of Xiao Zhou from her past life.

That is the name that always ranks ahead of her on the grade-level leaderboard.

As for the more specific details, not only did she not remember them, but she also never paid attention to them back then.

So, was Zhou Chong actually the same person she knows now when he was young?

Jiang Wan finally couldn't hold back and turned her head to steal a glance at Zhou Chong.

My gaze shifted to the right and met those dark eyes.

Jiang Wan's heart skipped a beat, and she felt a strange sense of panic, as if she had been caught peeping.

Fortunately, the math teacher started going over the test paper at that moment, and the voice from the podium saying "Let's look at this question" temporarily saved her.

Jiang Wan now had a legitimate reason to pretend nothing had happened and openly turn back to look at the blackboard.

Zhou Chong looked at her quietly for a while, then tore off a blank sheet of draft paper.

-

Suddenly, a neatly square piece of paper appeared in her hand. Jiang Wan didn't react for a moment. She followed the fingertip touching the edge of the paper and looked up, only to fall into Zhou Chong's gaze as he looked at her.

She couldn't help but widen her eyes.

Zhou Chong actually passed her a note during class?

Jiang Wan hadn't even read the note yet, but the matter itself was already quite surprising.

So surprised, she forgot to look at the note for a moment.

It wasn't until Zhou Chong raised his chin at her and pushed the note closer to her that she realized what it was and unfolded the neatly folded note, which looked like a card.

Zhou Chong conceded defeat and agreed to do Jiang Wan a favor: she could redeem this card indefinitely.

Jiang Wan was suddenly stunned. She looked at the contents of the note and read it silently twice, word by word, before she was sure that she had not misread or misunderstood it.

Zhou Chong... admits defeat?

A bittersweet feeling spread through my heart, like a small boat being gently rocked along.

Jiang Wan thought for a moment, pursed her lips that couldn't help but curve upwards, tore off another piece of paper, and scribbled down a sentence.

I don't want you to admit defeat. Firstly, only what you earn yourself has meaning. What kind of meaning is it if you give it to me?

Zhou Chong replied quickly.

[It's not that we're letting each other win; we're tied for first place.]

Jiang Wan continued writing, picking up where he left off:

[Yes, if they're tied for first place, it's a tie, so there's no winner or loser.]

Zhou Chong, however, seemed to disagree.

The note was pushed over again, with neat handwriting on it.

A tie for first place means it doesn't matter who wins or loses.

I'm willing to lose to you.

Jiang Wan looked at the note, and the corners of her lips involuntarily turned up.

She picked up the previous "redemption card," flipped it over, and wrote down her invitation.

Are you free this weekend? Would you like to go to the city library to study together?

Although it's a question, the intention behind writing it here is clear: this is what she wants Zhou Chong to agree to.

She also drew two small boxes below, writing "Yes" and "No" respectively, and then added a note in small print:

[Do you wish to use the redemption benefits?]

If you check the "Yes" box, it means that the "redeem card" has been used.

Zhou Chong gave her the redemption card, but she returned the initiative to redeem the rights to him.

That's the real significance of being tied for first place.
