Chapter 38 Yes, I just like it

Chapter 38 Yes, I just like it

A new day dawns, with not a cloud in the sky.

Jiang Wan stuffed a few chocolates into her schoolbag, and before entering the classroom, she peeled off another one and popped it into her mouth before walking to her seat with a smile.

As soon as she sat down, Zhou Chong smelled the rich, sweet aroma of cocoa, mixed with the unique fragrance of the young girl.

Slightly bitter, with a sweet aftertaste and a rich, lasting aroma.

Turning his head, he saw Jiang Wan playing with the candy wrapper in her hand, her lips slightly pursed, looking at him with a smile in her eyes.

Seeing him turn around, she immediately took out a piece of dark chocolate from her bag, spread it in her palm, and handed it to him. "Want some? It tastes really good."

Zhou Chong lowered his eyes. The dark brown chocolate wrapper lay in her soft, white palm, which didn't look out of place at all; on the contrary, it looked quite cute.

But he still shook his head, "I won't eat."

Those were chocolates he gave her; I'm glad she liked them.

"You really don't like it?" Jiang Wan tilted her head and curiously leaned closer to him, as if trying to read something from his face.

Zhou Chong simply lowered his eyes, smelled the fragrance that suddenly approached his nose, and softly hummed in agreement.

"Okay." Jiang Wan sat back down and muttered softly, "I thought it was just an excuse I made up last night."

Zhou Chong heard this, smiled, and offered no explanation.

Zhang Chi happened to pass by the two of them, caught a glimpse of the chocolate in Jiang Wan's palm, and reached out to take it, saying, "If you're not going to eat it, give it to me."

"Hey, no way!" Jiang Wan quickly clenched her fist, holding the chocolate behind her back. "It's mine."

"Don't be so stingy." Zhang Chi shrugged. "You didn't want any of those chocolates yesterday, why would you need just one more?"

Jiang Wan pouted, "Isn't that enough for you after giving you so much yesterday?"

Zhang Chi scratched the back of his head and smiled sheepishly, "That's more than enough. I just thought you didn't like it, so I helped you out a bit more."

"I love this." Jiang Wan rubbed the candy wrapper in her palm, a slight smile playing on her lips.

Zhang Chi thought for a moment and nodded, "It is indeed different from the brands from yesterday."

After he returned to his seat, Jiang Wan withdrew her hand, turned around and leaned close to Zhou Chong, blinked her eyes, and whispered, "I won't give the chocolate you gave me to anyone else, okay?"

After saying that, she opened her palm, peeled off the wrapper of the chocolate, put the chocolate in her mouth, and smiled at him with her eyes crinkled.

Looking at the smile in her eyes, Zhou Chong felt as if the chocolate had melted in his heart.

Slightly bitter, then sweet, and gets sweeter and sweeter.

He unconsciously cleared his throat, his Adam's apple bobbing, "Did you bring any of those candies, the lemon-flavored ones?"

Jiang Wan thought for a moment and nodded, "Yes."

She reached into the pocket of her school uniform jacket, pulled out a candy box, and poured a throat lozenge into Zhou Chong's hand. "Is your throat sore?"

Zhou Chong popped the candy into his mouth. "It's alright."

“It’s cold now, and if your throat is sore, you’re very likely to catch a cold,” Jiang Wan said, reaching out to touch Zhou Chong’s forehead.

"No." Zhou Chong hurriedly pressed her hand down and leaned back. "I just... my throat was a little dry. This candy tastes cool and refreshing, it feels very nice."

"So," Jiang Wan blinked, "you like this candy?"

Zhou Chong lowered his eyes, nibbled on the hard candy in his mouth, and his gaze fell on the slender wrist that he had grabbed in the panic. Then he gently released his hand and said, "Hmm."

Actually, it couldn't really be considered that I was holding her hand. The winter school uniform was loose and the sleeves were long, so most of my wrist was hidden in the sleeves.

He only touched a little bit of it—a soft, delicate texture, different from the fabric of his school uniform.

Jiang Wan seemed oblivious to the subtle touch, her focus entirely on the "hmm" sound, deliberately trying to tease him, "What does 'hmm' mean? Do you like it or not?"

She tilted her head, her brow furrowed slightly, feigning ignorance.

Little did she know, the glint in her eyes had already betrayed her cunning.

Zhou Chong looked up at her bright eyes, chuckled softly, and went along with her, "Yes, I just like it."

"Oh, since you like it, then—" Jiang Wan smiled contentedly, her eyes crinkling, and poured another candy from the candy box, "Here you go."

Zhou Chong took the candy from her hand and stuffed it into his coat pocket. "It's time for morning reading."

Jiang Wan sighed, took out her required Chinese textbook from her schoolbag, and began to recite ancient poems.

Damn it, these five-point fill-in-the-blank questions require memorizing so many classical Chinese texts and poems.

Despite his complaints, Jiang Wan continued to mutter to himself.

Zhou Chong opened his textbook with one hand, while his other hand remained in his pocket, and he gently rubbed his fingertips together.

It's strange, considering that he had done more intimate things with her after she became an adult.

But when he faced her, even the slightest touch made his heart race.

Zhou Chong, you're already twenty-eight years old.

Why does he still act like a young boy?

-

The last class on Friday afternoon is, as usual, Lao Fan's physics class.

Before get out of class ends, he will set aside some time to hold a short class meeting, mainly to talk about the important arrangements for the near future.

"New Year's Day is coming soon, and we'll have a day off."

Just as cheers erupted from below the podium, Lao Fan tapped the blackboard, "So, we'll have class this Sunday, and next Wednesday through Friday, we'll have a three-day holiday."

Jiang Wan nodded knowingly. It's a matter of taking time off in lieu of leave; those who know, know.

"In addition, as I've already told everyone, after we come back from New Year's Day, we'll have the first mock exam. It's a city-wide exam, and it will be held next Saturday and Sunday, two days in a row."

Old Fan's next words instantly turned the cheers from the audience into mourning.

"Ugh, did you have to be so disappointing?"

"I finally got a holiday."

"An exam right after the holiday? Are you crazy?!"

"And after returning from New Year's Day, I have to attend classes for seven consecutive days. It's insane."

...

Jiang Wan also pursed her lips, somewhat speechless.

We'll have classes on Sunday as a make-up day, then have a holiday from Wednesday to Friday for New Year's Day, followed by two consecutive days of exams on Saturday and Sunday.

Is this really a holiday?

Is it that she's bad at math, or that Lao Fan is bad at Chinese? Is this really a one-day holiday?

Doesn't this just break up the two weekends?

Where exactly did the extra day off come from?

Even though she had lived for twenty-eight years, she still couldn't help but marvel at how great wisdom the Chinese people had in adjusting work schedules.

The Lincheng City Education Bureau possesses even greater wisdom.

What were they thinking, scheduling the first mock exam for senior high school students after the holiday? Was there even a need for the New Year's Day holiday?

The answer is clearly no.

"Alright, alright." Old Fan clapped his hands on the podium, signaling everyone to be quiet. "You're all in your final year of high school now, the first round of review is over, it's time to get back to work. Don't think that vacation is for playing around. While you're playing, how many people are seriously reviewing?"

Old Fan's statement was likely a rhetorical question, because he didn't care about the students' answers and continued speaking to himself.

"Holidays are the time when the gap between people widens the most, including weekends. Doing one more problem or understanding one more mistake might earn you an extra point on the exam. And in the college entrance exam, that extra point can mean..."

There's no need to listen to what comes next, because Jiang Wan already knows it by heart.

Besides, she wasn't in the mood to listen to Lao Fan's rambling anymore.

The upcoming mock exam made her anxious.
