Chapter 74 Celebration
Jiang Wan walked over to Zhou Chong, raised her wrist to check the time, and said, "You're right on time. You said you'd arrive five minutes early, and you arrived five minutes early."
Zhou Chong raised an eyebrow, neither confirming nor denying.
"Come in and sit down. What are you doing standing at the door?" Jiang Wan turned to the side, welcomed Zhou Chong in, and led him to the small private room next door.
Zhou Chong walked over and saw that only one person was sitting at the round table.
It wasn't their classmate, but Luo Xuan.
As soon as Luo Xuan saw him, he raised his eyebrows, grinned, and waved at him high.
Zhou Chong pursed his lips, lowered his eyes, and tried to pretend he hadn't seen it. "Have the other students not arrived yet?"
“Yes.” Jiang Wan nodded. “You’re the first one to arrive five minutes early.”
After saying that, she led Zhou Chong to the table. Luo Xuan generously patted the chair next to him and raised an eyebrow at Zhou Chong, "Come on, sit here."
Noticing Zhou Chong's slightly embarrassed expression, Jiang Wan explained, "Oh, the college students haven't started school yet. Luo Xuan happened to be home, so he came over with us. He said it wasn't appropriate for a young person like him to sit over there."
As Jiang Wan spoke, she subtly pointed to the other private room, "He insisted on sitting at the same table as us, saying that he knows all of you and it won't be awkward. You don't mind, do you?"
"I don't mind." Zhou Chong smiled faintly and sat down next to Luo Xuan.
Luo Xuan rested his arm on the back of Zhou Chong's chair, looked up and raised an eyebrow at Jiang Wan, "We're very close, Zhou Chong certainly doesn't mind, you don't need to ask."
Two brothers?
Jiang Wan glanced at Zhou Chong, then at Luo Xuan, and blinked in confusion.
When did they become so close?
Just then, a voice came from behind. Jiang Wan turned around and saw that Zhang Chi, Li Yang, Zheng Ran and Shi Leyao had arrived.
Jiang Wan didn't know how the four of them happened to appear at the same time, but she didn't think much of it and waved her arm at them, "This way."
The group walked over, greeted Jiang Wan, and then took their seats in turn.
"Why did you all arrive at such a precise time?" Jiang Wan raised her wrist, tapped her watch, and said, feigning anger.
"No, Li Yang and I arrived a while ago." Zhang Chi scratched his head sheepishly. "Well... we'd never been to Yuxing Restaurant before, so we wandered around downstairs but couldn't find the elevator. Then we saw Zhou Chong come in, and we walked right up to it, which is how we found it..."
"And then, hey!" Li Yang clapped his hands and picked up the thread, "We were just about to follow Zhou Chong upstairs when Zhang Chi suddenly said that he saw Shi Leyao and Zheng Ran and was afraid they wouldn't be able to find their way either, so he was waiting for them in the lobby to come up together."
"Oh, I see."
Jiang Wan nodded thoughtfully, as if she had gleaned something from Li Yang's words, but also seemed not to understand them.
She had just turned to look at Zhang Chi when she saw him blushing and reaching out to grab Li Yang's ear, saying, "What are you talking about?"
This scene seems familiar.
Jiang Wan thought for a moment, and it seemed that when they had just moved to the seats in front of her and Zhou Chong, Zhang Chi talked about how he had applied to be a girl's deskmate but was rejected by Lao Fan, and then Li Yang joked and played around with him, and that was exactly what happened.
So, if Jiang Wan turns her attention to Shi Leyao and Zheng Ran, who will it be?
Jiang Wan couldn't figure it out for the moment, so she decided to give up gossiping for now. She glanced at the time, picked up her phone, and asked, "Why hasn't that brat Sun Qianyu arrived yet?"
She had just dialed Sun Qianyu's number when she heard a phone ringing outside the private room.
Then the call was disconnected, and Sun Qianyu appeared at the door with a grin, "You're here, what's the rush?"
She tilted her head and smiled, then straightened up and took a step into the private room, where Jiang Shengming appeared behind her.
"Sorry, we're the last ones to arrive." Jiang Shengming smiled apologetically. "We're not late, are we?"
"No, perfect timing. I was almost late." Jiang Wan glanced at her phone screen, then put it away and turned her gaze to the two people in front of her.
She wondered why Sun Qianyu dared to arrive so late for her birthday party; it turned out she was waiting for someone.
Jiang Wan followed Sun Qianyu's gaze to Jiang Shengming and noticed that he was wearing a dark gray scarf around his neck. It was a simple, chunky knit scarf, not particularly eye-catching, and even a bit ordinary, but it suited Jiang Shengming quite well.
Compared to when they were at school in the morning, everyone else had only changed their coats after going home, including Jiang Wan herself, who simply took off her school uniform jacket and put on a down jacket.
Therefore, Jiang Shengming wore this extra scarf, which attracted some attention for a moment, since he was never seen wearing a scarf at school.
Sun Qianyu and Jiang Shengming walked over and sat in the empty seat next to Jiang Wan.
Jiang Shengming took off his coat and scarf, got up and walked to the coat rack by the door.
Taking the opportunity, Jiang Wan nudged Sun Qianyu's arm and gestured towards Jiang Shengming with her lip, "This is the first time I've seen Jiang Shengming wear a scarf. This color suits him quite well. Without his school uniform, this combination makes him look rather handsome. Now I understand why you like him."
Sun Qianyu raised her eyebrows smugly, "Of course, don't you even know who styled it for him?"
"What do you mean?" Jiang Wan was taken aback. "You even helped him change his clothes before we came?"
"What are you talking about?" Sun Qianyu glanced at her, cupped her hands, and whispered in Jiang Wan's ear, "That scarf was a Christmas present I gave him."
Jiang Wan suddenly realized.
No wonder, on Christmas Day last semester, Sun Qianyu came to school with a bulging backpack and mysteriously said that she would take him home after evening self-study.
Taking out a scarf in front of everyone in the classroom is indeed quite conspicuous.
Watching Jiang Shengming carefully hang the scarf on the coat rack, something suddenly flashed through Jiang Wan's mind, and she blurted out, "You didn't knit that scarf yourself, did you?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Sun Qianyu immediately covered her mouth, her face slightly flushed, "Keep your voice down."
Jiang Wan immediately understood, smiled and winked, signaling her to let go of her.
Just then, Jiang Shengming returned, and Sun Qianyu let go of his hand and sat back down properly in her seat.
"The food will be served soon, please eat first." Jiang Wan stood up and said to everyone at the table, "I'm going to go next door to keep my family company, and I'll come back when we cut the cake."
After arranging the table, Jiang Wan closed the sliding door and went to the other side to have dinner with her family.
Although Jiang Wan herself didn't care, her family members attached great importance to her eighteenth birthday, especially the elders. Not only did her grandmother come, but her maternal grandparents also came.
It was during the Spring Festival, and apart from the three senior students, everyone was relatively free, so everyone came.
Jiang Wan accompanied her family as they toasted everyone with drinks, said many nice things, and received blessings and generous red envelopes from her family. Then, she carried the large cake back to the small private room next door.
As soon as the sliding door opened, Zhou Chong got up and walked over to her, taking the food cart with the cake from her hands.
Jiang Wan knew he wanted to help her push the food cart, but she didn't let go of the handrail and just pushed the cart forward with Zhou Chong.
It's unclear who started it, but before Jiang Wan even reached the table, everyone began singing "Happy Birthday."
Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you!
Jiang Wan and Zhou Chong pushed the cake toward the crowd as they sang together.
At that moment, Sun Qianyu absurdly felt that they were not celebrating Jiang Wan's birthday, but rather Jiang Wan and Zhou Chong's wedding anniversary.
