Chapter 35 You don't want to apply to Peking University?

The presentation ended ten minutes before dinner time.

All the students present were top students in their grade. Director Tan waved his hand and told them to go to the cafeteria for lunch ahead of time.

Jiang Wan, holding Shi Leyao's hand, followed behind Zhou Chong and Jiang Shengming as they walked out of the lecture hall.

However, just as she reached the corner of the stairs, someone grabbed the back of her school uniform collar.

Without even a second thought, there's only one person who would do that.

"Luo Xuan!" Jiang Wan turned around irritably. "How old are you? Why are you still grabbing my collar? Let go of me!"

Jiang Wan's shout caused all the students around her to turn around and look at her.

Seemingly worried about affecting her image, Luo Xuan quickly loosened the collar of her school uniform and smiled, nodding to the others.

Zhou Chong glanced back at the two of them, then subtly slowed his pace.

Jiang Shengming, who was standing nearby, noticed something was wrong. "Hey, Zhou Chong, why are you walking slower and slower?"

“There are many people ahead, be careful when walking up the steps, take your time,” Zhou Chong replied.

"Oh, that's true." Jiang Shengming nodded and slowed his pace as well.

Then, the two slowly walked to Jiang Wan's side, keeping a short distance between them.

This way, they could hear Jiang Wan and Luo Xuan talking without arousing suspicion.

"Come on, let me take you to the faculty cafeteria for a change of pace." Luo Xuan raised an eyebrow at Jiang Wan, waving the meal vouchers in his hand. "Old Tan gave me a few, enough to treat you to a good meal."

“I’m not going.” Jiang Wan glanced at his meal ticket. “The faculty cafeteria is full of teachers, and your fellow admissions officers will be there too. It would be too awkward to go.”

“Hmm, that’s true.” Luo Xuan thought for a moment, then stuffed the meal voucher into his pocket. “Then you can treat me to a meal at the student cafeteria. It’s rare for me to come back to school, so I should come back and savor the taste of the past.”

Jiang Wan frowned and glared at him. "Luo Xuan, you're a college student now, how dare you mooch off my meal card?"

"You're not short of money on your meal card, what's wrong with treating me to a meal?"

Jiang Wan was about to retort when she caught a glimpse of Shi Leyao's bright eyes and suddenly changed her mind. "Alright, I'll treat you to a meal, but I want to go with my classmate."

As she spoke, she took Shi Leyao's hand and said, "If you don't mind, you can eat with us."

"I don't mind, why would I mind?" Luo Xuan waved his hand dismissively. "It's a good opportunity to find out how things are going at school. I'll go to your house after dinner to help my mom deliver some things to Aunt Shan, so we don't run out of things to talk about."

Hearing this, Shi Leyao couldn't help but ask curiously, "Jiang Wan, did you and Senior Luo Xuan know each other before?"

Jiang Wan nodded. "Yes, our two families are neighbors, and we've known each other since we were little."

Luo Xuan then added cheekily, "She's had to call me 'brother' since she was little."

"Bullshit, I'm not calling you brother."

"That's because you're disrespectful."

...

They arrived at the cafeteria amidst a noisy commotion. After Jiang Wan, Luo Xuan, and Shi Leyao got their food and sat down, they saw Zhou Chong and Jiang Shengming sitting at the table next to them.

Shi Leyao was asking Luo Xuan about some things at Peking University, but Jiang Wan wasn't interested in listening. Her gaze shifted to the next table, where she met Zhou Chong's eyes. She waved to him happily.

"Come sit with us."

Jiang Wan pointed to the empty seat opposite her.

Zhou Chong paused for a moment, then lowered his head and showed no reaction.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Shengming, who was sitting opposite him, stood up and said, "Go ahead, go ahead. I heard Senior Luo Xuan talking to Shi Leyao about Peking University's independent admissions. Let's go listen too."

Before Zhou Chong could say anything, Jiang Shengming had already left with his tray.

Left with no other choice, Zhou Chong picked up his tray and followed him over.

Jiang Wan bit her chopsticks and smiled as she watched Zhou Chong walk towards her.

Perhaps to be closer to Luo Xuan so he could ask him questions, or perhaps to give Zhou Chongteng a seat, Jiang Shengming sat in the spot on the side of the long table.

The seat opposite Jiang Wan was still empty, and Zhou Chong walked over and sat down directly.

As soon as Jiang Shengming sat down, he eagerly joined the Peking University independent admission consultation group and, together with Shi Leyao, asked Luo Xuan all sorts of questions.

Luo Xuan was very easy to talk to and shared all his knowledge with me, even explaining the key points of the written test and the interview format for the self-enrollment program.

Jiang Wan listened for a while, then asked curiously, "Jiang Shengming, do you also want to apply to Peking University?"

She remembered that in her previous life, Jiang Shengming participated in Jiaotong University's independent enrollment program and did indeed go to Jiaotong University later.

"Tsinghua University and Peking University, it doesn't matter which one I can get into, I don't have a choice. It can't hurt to learn more about them," Jiang Shengming said with a smile.

Luo Xuan patted his shoulder and said, "Young man, you have a great attitude. I believe in you."

Jiang Shengming smiled and said, "Thank you, senior. I hope I'll have the opportunity to continue being your junior."

"Oh dear, but there's only one recommendation spot for Peking University in the science stream." Luo Xuan stroked his chin, twirling the tip of his chopsticks between the group. "Junior students, you're in competition with each other."

Jiang Wan took a bite of the braised pork ribs. "I'm not competing with you."

"You don't want to apply to Peking University?" Luo Xuan turned to look at her in surprise.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Chong paused, his chopsticks poking at his plate, and looked up at Jiang Wan across from him.

Jiang Wan rolled her eyes, her gaze sweeping over the people around her, finally settling on Zhou Chong's face. Instead of answering, she asked, "And you?"

Zhou Chong was stunned for a moment, and in an instant, everyone's eyes were focused on him.

He lowered his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. "I'm fine with anything."

"Academic geniuses are so arrogant," Jiang Shengming scoffed, making a joke. "Only Zhou Chong has the right to choose between Tsinghua University and Peking University at will."

“Zhou Chong…” Luo Xuan murmured his name, then looked up at Jiang Wan and asked, “Is he the one who always gets ahead of you in the exams?”

Jiang Wan nodded, but there was no sign of impatience on her face. Instead, her eyes narrowed with a smile. "Yes, he's number one in our grade. He's really amazing."

Luo Xuan raised an eyebrow, looking at Jiang Wan with a hint of surprise.

How could he not remember that every time she talked to him about her exam rankings after a major exam, she always had a sullen expression on her face?

Even if you want to put on an act in front of your classmates, there's no need to be so dramatic, right?

Anyone who didn't know better would think she was very fond of Zhou Chong.

Yes, in Luo Xuan's view, Jiang Wan's question to Zhou Chong about which university he wanted to apply to was purely a ploy to gather intelligence.

But now it seems that's not the case.

Luo Xuan's gaze swept between the two of them, and after thinking for a moment, he abruptly changed the subject, "It's Christmas today, Jiang Wan, did you receive any gifts from boys, like chocolates or something?"

Jiang Wan paused in her eating, glared fiercely at Luo Xuan, and knew he was just rubbing salt in the wound.

"No."

"Oh, really?" Luo Xuan glanced at Zhou Chong, a hint of mockery in his voice. "That can't be right. Are you lying to me because you're afraid I'll tell your mother?"

"Eat your food." Jiang Wan wished she could dump the plate on Luo Xuan's head.

"Alright, alright, let's eat." Luo Xuan smiled and didn't ask any further questions.

Sometimes, you shouldn't listen to what the person involved says, but rather look into their eyes.

The saying goes, "Hearing is believing, seeing is believing."

At this moment, Luo Xuan, a rising star in the legal profession, deeply understood this point.
