Chapter 71 Not My Boyfriend Yet
After releasing all the sparklers one by one, the snow had started to fall heavily.
The two only had one umbrella. Zhou Chong said he would take Jiang Wan home first, and then he would come out to hail a taxi.
Jiang Wan readily agreed.
The space under the umbrella was small, and the two walked side by side on the stone path in the villa area, very close to each other.
Jiang Wan also lightly held onto Zhou Chong's hand that was gripping the umbrella handle.
To minimize getting wet in the snow, a perfectly legitimate reason.
They completely forgot who was having so much fun playing in the snow under the streetlights just now.
"So, there really was such a heavy snowfall this winter." Jiang Wan looked at the large snowflakes falling outside the umbrella. "I didn't believe the weather forecast that said there might be a heavy snowfall."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Chong raised an eyebrow. "I only brought an umbrella before going out because I heard the weather forecast, just in case."
Jiang Wan's eyes widened slightly in surprise, "They actually used it."
Zhou Chong smiled and said, "Weather forecasts are actually quite accurate. However, predictions often can't keep up with changes, since there are too many variables in nature."
Jiang Wan was slightly taken aback, her attention focused on the word "variable".
Predictions can never keep up with changes, not only in nature, but also in all things in the world where changes are even more unpredictable.
If she had indeed divorced Zhou Chong as agreed after the agreement expired, just as she had initially predicted, she wouldn't be here now.
She would never share an umbrella with Zhou Chong and walk in the heavy snow.
Since her rebirth, many changes have occurred, and it remains to be seen what kind of butterfly effect this will have on the future.
Jiang Wan subconsciously looked up at Zhou Chong, only to find herself in his line of sight.
Surprisingly, there were some emotions in his eyes that she couldn't understand.
Over this period of time, she has learned quite a bit about Zhou Chong, and she can understand a lot of his subtle changes in expression.
But there are still times when she doesn't understand, like right now.
Zhou Chong glanced at her once before quickly looking away, as if that one second of eye contact was just Jiang Wan's illusion.
"Have you arrived at your home?" Zhou Chong suddenly asked.
Jiang Wan turned around and found that the villa in front of the intersection was indeed her home. The lights were on in the French windows, and her parents were playing mahjong with relatives in the side room.
"Yes, we're here." Jiang Wan nodded and walked with Zhou Chong to the eaves outside the gate. She peeked out at the snow falling heavily outside. "It's snowing so heavily outside. Should I ask my dad to drive you home?"
"No need." Zhou Chong shook his head and asked with a light laugh, "Didn't you drink alcohol with dinner tonight, Uncle?"
"Oh right, he's been drinking." Jiang Wan suddenly realized. "Then my mom can drive you. My mom didn't drink tonight."
Zhou Chong shook his head again, "There's really no need to trouble yourself."
"But……"
Jiang Wan was still a little hesitant. The snow outside was falling heavier and heavier, and tonight was New Year's Eve. The suburbs were not like the city center, and it would definitely be difficult to get a taxi back.
Just as she was struggling with this, a dark gray Audi sports car drove out of the gate next door, stopped as it passed the two of them, and its headlights flashed.
Jiang Wan turned her head and saw the driver's side window roll down. Luo Xuan leaned out and said, "Hey, what are you two doing in front of your house?"
"Perfect." Jiang Wan's eyes lit up, and she quickly pulled Zhou Chong to the car. "Luo Xuan, please take Zhou Chong home."
Luo Xuan raised an eyebrow, looked Zhou Chong up and down, and smiled, "Sure, no problem."
Zhou Chong glanced back at Jiang Wan, but before he could say anything, the back door of the car in front of him was opened.
Jiang Wan pushed Zhou Chong into the car, took two steps back, and waved to him, "Bye-bye, see you at school on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year."
Zhou Chong pursed his lips and nodded. "Okay, see you on the fifth day of the lunar new year."
Jiang Wan closed the car door for him, then went around to the front, knocked on the half-open driver's side window, and leaned down to tell Luo Xuan, "Take him home properly, or I'll hold you responsible."
"Okay." Luo Xuan waved his hand and made a move to roll up the car window. "I'll make sure your little boyfriend gets home safely."
Jiang Wan's ears burned, and she quickly glanced at Zhou Chong in the back seat to make sure he hadn't heard before whispering to correct Luo Xuan, "He's not my boyfriend yet, don't talk nonsense."
"Oh?" Luo Xuan raised an eyebrow. "Not yet?"
"Don't say things like that in front of him, I'm afraid he'll be upset." Jiang Wan glared at Luo Xuan warningly. "Got it?"
"Okay, okay." Luo Xuan stopped arguing with her and pressed the window button. "Let's go. I have to rush off after dropping him off."
The car started moving again, and Jiang Wan backed up, waving in the direction of the rear window as she watched them leave.
Zhou Chong turned his head back and stared at the figures outside the car window, which grew smaller and smaller until they could no longer be seen, before turning his gaze away.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Luo Xuan glanced at the rearview mirror a few times, taking in Zhou Chong's actions. After Zhou Chong turned around, Luo Xuan cleared his throat and said, "Zhou Chong, can I ask you something?"
Zhou Chong raised his eyes and met Luo Xuan's gaze through the rearview mirror, then slightly raised his chin and said, "Ask."
"Ahem." Luo Xuan sat up straight, cleared his throat, and a playful smile appeared on his lips. "Do you like that little girl Jiang Wan?"
Little girl?
Zhou Chong's brows furrowed involuntarily.
It wasn't because of the question Luo Xuan asked him, but because of the way Luo Xuan addressed him.
The closeness is obvious.
Seeing Zhou Chong frowning and remaining silent, Luo Xuan assumed that he had been right. "Ha, I knew it. I could tell on the day of the school's self-enrollment presentation."
Zhou Chong kept his lips pressed together and remained silent.
"Hey, aren't you curious? Don't you want to know how I figured it out?" Luo Xuan seemed to agree with Zhou Chong's answer and asked with a grin.
Zhou Chong wasn't curious about how he figured it out; he was only curious about Luo Xuan's attitude toward the matter, or rather, his attitude toward Jiang Wan.
There's no need for men to hide anything from each other.
So he followed up on Luo Xuan's question and asked, "How did you figure that out?"
"Eyes." Luo Xuan narrowed his eyes mysteriously. "There are too many details, but I can tell at a glance."
After saying that, he couldn't resist boasting, "Who told me I'm a rising star in the legal profession? In our line of work, reading between the lines is very important."
Zhou Chong wasn't intimidated at all, and simply looked up at him calmly, "So?"
“So…” Luo Xuan glanced at the rearview mirror and grinned, “Aren’t you going to hurry up and get on good terms with your brother-in-law? I watched that little girl grow up, so I have to help her vet him.”
Zhou Chong: "..."
Brother-in-law?
