Chapter 58 A Family of Four
When Shan Tong and Jiang Ronghai found the classroom by following the text message, they saw Jiang Wan and Zhou Chongzheng sitting side by side in their seats, each with their homework spread out in front of them.
He sat upright and wrote diligently.
The two stood outside the classroom door, looked at each other through the corridor window for a while, nodded to each other, and exchanged a glance.
Before reaching for the doorknob, Shan Tong nudged Jiang Ronghai's arm with her elbow, "Honey, look how seriously they're studying, and how self-disciplined they are."
Jiang Ronghai smiled knowingly, "I told you long ago, our daughter isn't showing any signs of anything. Zhou Chong is so outstanding, she's just focused on studying hard with him."
Dan Tong pursed her lips, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, "Studying hard is one thing, but Zhou Chong is so outstanding and handsome, it's normal for him to have some potential."
Jiang Ronghai chuckled, wanting to say more to her, but Shan Tong raised her index finger at him, signaling him to be quiet.
Then, I turned the doorknob.
But it didn't open.
She turned the door again and found it was locked from the inside.
What's going on? Do I have to lock the door to do my homework?
The door lock made a loud "click-clack" sound. Jiang Wan turned around and saw her father's head through the small glass window in the door. She quickly ran over to open the door.
"Mom and Dad, is the parent-teacher meeting over?"
"Okay, it's over." Shan Tong nodded, then looked down at the door lock. "Why did you lock the door while doing your homework? I couldn't open it earlier."
Jiang Wan scratched her head sheepishly and smiled, "It's because I'm afraid of being disturbed by people opening the door too often. We're doing the test paper under timed conditions, just like taking an exam. Once someone opens the door, our concentration is completely disrupted."
The real reason was to avoid a situation like what happened to Sun Qianyu and Jiang Shengming, even though she herself was the instigator.
But clearly, Shan Tong and Jiang Ronghai believed her.
The two glanced at the desk in front of Zhou Chong and saw a mechanical watch placed next to the test paper, which looked like he was indeed timing himself while taking the test.
Furthermore, based on what they had just seen through the window, they completely believed Jiang Wan's words.
"Alright, don't work so hard on your homework." Shan Tong patted Jiang Wan's head. "It's already this late, are you hungry? Shall we go eat?"
"Okay." Jiang Wan nodded and ran back to her seat to pack her bag. "I'm starving."
Zhou Chong picked up the watch from the table, put it back on his wrist, then slung his backpack over his shoulder and walked with Jiang Wan to the classroom door. He nodded to Jiang Wan's parents, "Uncle and Aunt."
After the parent-teacher meeting, Shan Tong and Jiang Ronghai went to talk briefly with the homeroom teacher, Ms. Fan, and also inquired about Zhou Chong's situation.
After hearing the homeroom teacher's high praise for him, Shan Tong now thinks that Zhou Chong is truly outstanding.
"Alright, Zhou Chong, let's go eat together." Shan Tong smiled kindly at him.
After thanking them, Zhou Chong followed the three of them out of the school gate.
Considering that the parent-teacher meeting might end quite late, and since we live very close to the school, we decided to have dinner at a restaurant near the school.
Lincheng No.1 Middle School was established early and is located in the old city area, so the surrounding area is convenient for transportation, bustling and prosperous, with complete living facilities and countless restaurants of all sizes.
Two blocks ahead from the school gate, just outside the back gate of Jiang Wan's residential area, is a five-star hotel.
Jiang Ronghai booked the table here.
There was nothing particularly special about it; it's just that their family often eats here, and Jiang Wan also thinks the food is quite good, so Jiang Ronghai booked a private room before leaving.
As Shan Tong walked into the hotel's magnificent lobby, she seemed to suddenly remember something and turned to look at Zhou Chong, who was following behind her.
Inviting him to dinner was a spur-of-the-moment decision, but it was, after all, a dinner with a classmate's parents, not a formal occasion. I wondered if this would put pressure on Zhou Chong.
Perhaps a more down-to-earth, family-style restaurant would be better?
But she saw Zhou Chong walking upright on the shiny marble tiles, looking straight ahead, taking steady and comfortable steps, as if he had been to similar places countless times, without the slightest discomfort.
Looking at him, Shan Tong inexplicably felt that Zhou Chong should be wearing a well-tailored, handmade suit, not a school uniform.
He exudes the aura of a business elite.
Jiang Wan mentioned that Zhou Chong's parents were diplomats and doctors, so his family must be well-off. He must have attended many banquets and parties with his parents since he was a child and seen a lot of different situations.
That's probably related to the reason, after all, he's just a seventeen or eighteen-year-old kid.
Thinking about it this way, Shan Tong inexplicably felt that Zhou Chong and her Wanwan were quite a good match. He was outstanding, handsome, and the two families were well-matched.
The moment this thought popped into Shan Tong's head, she was startled by herself.
Before turning around, he glanced at Zhou Chong one last time, then hurriedly followed the waiter into the private room.
Jiang Wan walked behind her parents and could clearly see Shan Tong's thoughtful and scrutinizing expression.
The more she looked at it, the more something seemed off.
The way her mother looked at Zhou Chong just now was just like the way a mother-in-law would look at her future son-in-law when she first brought Zhou Chong to meet her parents in her past life.
Is she overthinking it?
Jiang Wan couldn't help but turn her head and glance at Zhou Chong.
Could it be that Zhou Chong has always been so well-liked by his mother since he was a child?
Noticing Jiang Wan's gaze, Zhou Chong turned his head, raised his eyebrows, and silently asked her what was wrong.
Jiang Wan smiled and shook her head. "It's nothing. Let's go inside and eat."
After saying that, she quickly walked into the private room.
The group took their seats in the private room.
The private room wasn't large; it had a round table that seated eight people, but only four seats were set up, making it quite spacious.
Jiang Ronghai and Shan Tong sat side by side, while Jiang Wan sat next to her mother.
Zhou Chong sat in the remaining seat, with Jiang Wan on his left, Jiang Ronghai on his right, and Shan Tong opposite him.
The private room was well-heated, and Jiang Wan and Zhou Chong both took off their school uniform jackets.
Zhou Chong was already tall, and his facial features were rather mature. After taking off his school uniform, he looked even more mature.
Looking at the scene before her, Jiang Wan couldn't help but mutter to herself, "This looks just like a family dinner of four."
After all, similar scenarios had indeed occurred many times in my previous life.
Even the seating arrangement is exactly the same.
