"My lord, the old lady's condition is not good."
The doctor spoke.
He knew about some recent events at the Yongning Marquis's residence. Every time things were peaceful, something new would happen. He didn't know what had happened this time, but it had actually made the old lady faint from anger.
“The old lady is getting on in years. I told her last time she fainted that she shouldn’t be subjected to any more stress, and now she has actually fallen again.”
Hearing this, everyone had a bad feeling, especially Zhou Shiyuan, who stared intently at the doctor:
"Doctor, please do your best."
If my grandmother were to die at this time, who knows what rumors would spread.
At this moment, Zhou Shiyuan finally felt fear.
Seeing his worry, the doctor thought to himself that although the former heir of the Marquis of Yongning was not good at anything else, he was still quite filial.
"I have done my best, but it is truly impossible. The old lady had shown signs of a mild stroke before, but this time it has become more serious. I'm afraid she will have to spend the rest of her life in bed."
Upon hearing this, everyone in the room was stunned. They were initially flustered, but then they all realized that this was a good thing, including Zhou's father and Zhou Shiyuan.
To be honest, they had long been fed up with the days when they had to do everything according to Madam Zhou's wishes.
In addition, the previous division of the family property had already created a rift between the Zhou father and son and the matriarch of the Zhou family, and they were no longer as respectful to her as before.
This time, she suffered a stroke and can only lie in bed, so they won't have to depend on anyone anymore.
The Zhou family father and son both thought this way, and the second and third branches of the family thought even more so.
They always felt that Old Madam Zhou favored the eldest son's family and harbored resentment towards her, so naturally they didn't take her seriously.
However, we'll have to carefully plan ahead for the days to come.
Yuan Zhao took in their expressions and a cold smile appeared on his lips.
She looked at Old Madam Zhou, only to find that the old woman had woken up at some point. She was glaring fiercely at her children and grandchildren, seemingly wanting to say something, but when she opened her mouth, she could only make a few "woo-woo-woo" sounds.
The others seemed not to hear, and after dismissing the doctor, they went straight back to their rooms.
Mr. Zhou did stay, but he didn't go to see Old Madam Zhou. Instead, he spoke to the maids who were serving him:
"You must take good care of the old lady and not slack off."
After saying that, Zhou's father left.
He didn't look at his elderly mother even once from beginning to end.
Old Mrs. Zhou seemed not to have expected her son to be so cold-hearted. After a moment of stunned silence, she let out even louder sobs, but still could not stop her husband from leaving.
"Grandmother, stop calling me, save your energy."
Yuan Zhao spoke.
Upon hearing Yuan Zhao's words, Old Madam Zhou seemed to have found an outlet for her anger, and glared at Yuan Zhao with venom.
Yuan Zhao, however, was not afraid at all. She even went over to straighten Madam Zhou's cup and tucked the blanket around her.
"Grandmother, are you disappointed in them?"
"These are the good children and grandchildren you raised, each one more callous than the last."
"When you were teaching them, did you ever think that one day the consequences would fall on you?"
Although Madam Zhou could no longer speak, it did not mean that she could not hear.
Upon hearing these words, she looked at Yuan Zhao with even more resentment.
If looks could kill, Yuan Zhao would probably already be riddled with holes.
Yuan Zhao chuckled softly upon seeing this, then leaned down and whispered in her ear:
"Don't worry, Grandmother, this is just the beginning. Your 'good days' are yet to come."
