Chapter 4 Deceiving the Blind Jiang Wan Ning
"Zhizhi greets Uncle and Aunt." Shen Ruzhi curtsied and said, "Greetings to the Prince of Langya."
"Zhizhi, you're here?" Zhou's eyes were filled with surprise and relief.
Shen Ruzhi is the daughter of Shen Zhao, the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review. She and Jiang Wanning have known each other since childhood and are as close as family.
For some reason, the two stopped seeing each other a year ago, and Shen Ruzhi never went to any occasions where Jiang Wan Ning was present.
However, whenever they met each other's elders, they would obediently bow.
Shen Ruzhi always subtly inquired about Ningning's affairs in front of him.
But both of them were stubborn, and neither of them would say what had happened.
Zhou was naturally pleased that Shen Ruzhi was able to come today.
"Auntie, Zhizhi was delayed today and is late. Please don't be angry with Zhizhi."
"It's alright, it's alright. It's good that you're here. Ningning was talking about you this morning."
Shen Ruzhi glanced at Jiang Wan Ning, snorted softly, and muttered under her breath, "She still knows how to miss me?"
Zhou heard this and smiled awkwardly, "Zhizhi, please sit down."
“Miss Shen, I know you’ve always disliked me, I know that.” Jiang Wanru lowered her head and wiped her tears with her sleeve. “Miss Shen, whatever you say is fine.”
"But don't make things difficult for my sister between us."
Shen Ruzhi rolled her eyes. "Your acting skills are only good enough to fool the blind Jiang Wanning."
As she spoke, she didn't forget to glare at Jiang Wan Ning.
Seeing her old friends again, Jiang Wan Ning felt only happiness and excitement.
“Miss Chen, please stop talking about Ru’er. If you say that, Ningning will be sad,” Pei Anqing said coldly.
"Your Highness, aren't you afraid that Ningning will be heartbroken and upset by protecting Jiang Wanru like this?" Shen Ruzhi doesn't tolerate anyone.
Her father was the reincarnation of the notoriously stern-faced Bao Zheng, and there was no one in the imperial court he hadn't offended, so she wasn't afraid of causing trouble for her father at all.
Even with the Prince of Langya present, everyone was careful with their breathing, but she was fearless and spoke her mind freely.
"You!" Pei Anqing flung his sleeves. "This is utterly unreasonable."
"Ningning won't welcome you. What are you doing here?"
Shen Ruzhi was at a loss for words. She wasn't afraid of offending people, but she was afraid of hearing unpleasant words from her good friend.
I was at a loss for words to answer.
Haitang, having received a signal from Jiang Wanning, knelt down with a thud, saying, "Master, Madam, and Miss."
"It was Haitang who betrayed Miss, but Haitang doesn't regret it."
Jiang Wan Ning looked shocked. "Haitang, I've always treated you well. What did you do?"
Haitang kept kowtowing. "Please forgive me, Miss. I know you don't want to see Miss Shen because Miss Shen warned you to be careful of the Second Miss and the Prince."
"Miss Shen also told Miss that the Second Miss and the Heir Apparent had been secretly having an affair."
"Miss didn't believe it, so she broke off all contact with Miss Shen."
"So that's the reason?" Zhou exclaimed in surprise. No wonder neither of them had told her.
Although Kezhi is mischievous, she would never tell such a lie, but in this matter...
Zhou looked at Jiang Wanru and Pei Anqing.
“Auntie, this is all nonsense from Shen Ruzhi. It’s completely untrue. Otherwise, Ningning wouldn’t have broken off relations with her,” Pei Anqing said.
"Haitang, you tell me first, what did you do?" Jiang Wanning looked heartbroken, as if she had been betrayed.
"When Miss Shen heard that Miss was to be engaged to the young master, she came to me and asked me to go to the second young lady's room."
"They say...they have evidence that the Second Miss and the Heir Apparent were together long ago."
"I thought, what if Miss Chen is telling the truth? So I secretly sneaked into the Second Miss's room and indeed found the letters between the Second Miss and the Prince."
"The contents of the document are too explicit for me to describe, so I brought the document with me."
As Haitang spoke, she took out the letters from her bosom. "This is only a part of it. There were so many letters, a whole large box. I only picked out a few that weren't so explicit..."
When Jiang Wanru saw the letter in Haitang's hand, her body went limp and she knelt on the ground.
Pei Anqing looked at Jiang Wanru.
Why wasn't it burned?!
Jiang Wanru lowered her head to avoid Pei Anqing's questioning gaze.
Jiang Wan Ning, clutching her chest, stumbled and staggered to Hai Tang, supported by Shao Yao. The distance of three steps felt like ten zhang.
With trembling hands, he took the letter and opened it, the paper shaking in his hands as if he had Parkinson's disease.
Zhou immediately stepped forward, took the rest of the letters, and glanced at them briefly.
"Ningning, let me explain..."
*Smack!*
Before Pei Anqing could even speak, Jiang Wanning slapped him hard across the face.
She put on such a hard performance to deliver that slap.
"Since you were already together, why did you lie to me?" Jiang Wanning cried, pointing at Pei Anqing and Jiang Wanru, "And you even staged this whole thing today?"
"You two loved each other, and you told me that, so why did you ruin me?"
While Jiang Wan Ning was making her heart-wrenching accusations, she didn't forget to keep slapping Pei An Qing.
Marquis Jiang Zheng's face turned ashen after reading the letter. "Your Highness, you need to give me an explanation for this matter."
Prince Pei Yanchuan of Langya glanced at the contents of the letter indifferently, "Rest assured, Your Excellency."
"I have already requested an imperial decree that the future Princess Consort of Langya can only be Jiang Wan Ning."
"Your Highness, what we care about is not the position of Princess Langya, but Ningning's heart!" Zhou Shi couldn't help but roar.
Pei Yanchuan concealed the heartache in his eyes, "My Langya Royal Palace will definitely give you an explanation for this matter."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Wan Ning turned around and knelt down, "Then please give me an explanation now, Your Highness."
Pei Yanchuan's loosely clenched fist tightened slightly. "What do you want? I will grant it all."
"Is Your Highness serious?"
"My word is my bond."
"Then please grant my younger sister, Jiang Wanru, the title of Princess of Langya, by allowing her to marry the Crown Prince," Jiang Wanning declared loudly.
"Jiang Wanning, are you crazy?!" Shen Ruzhi shouted angrily, "You really want the three of you to live together?"
"Don't you feel disgusted being stuck in the middle of them?"
"Ningning, you..." Zhou Shi only looked at her daughter with heartache and couldn't care less about anything else.
The others also felt that Jiang Wanning was being too lenient with Pei Anqing and Jiang Wanru.
"Ningning, are you really willing?" Pei Anqing was surprised.
Jiang Wan Ning only slapped him a few times and then let it go. Although there was an unexpected incident in the process, fortunately, the ending was the same for him.
"Are you really sure about this?" Pei Yanchuan asked.
The disappointment and loneliness in his eyes flashed by in an instant.
Jiang Wan Ning coldly pulled her sleeve out of Pei An Qing's hand. "I've thought it through."
"Very well, I agree. I will instruct the household to make proper arrangements for the marriages of the three of you."
"Your Highness misunderstands. I meant for the two of them to marry, not for the three of us to marry. Since they are in love, how could I force someone else to marry?"
"And what did you just do?"
