Chapter 100 Evidence
"Shut up," Shen Ruzhi said irritably. "If it weren't for you, would things be this complicated?"
"I already said it's not me, Princess!"
"I only touched her lightly!"
Shen Ruzhi glanced at him sideways, "But right now this person is in trouble."
"The accident was your fault, what does it have to do with me? I, the princess, did not cut open her stomach."
Princess Xixia turned her head and pointed at Pei Yanchuan, "Aren't you some kind of prince? You be the judge."
"My men have already sent someone to invite the delegation. In the meantime, Your Highness, please remain calm, or don't blame me for taking action."
Pei Yanchuan's voice was extremely calm, yet it sent a chill down the spine of the Princess of Xixia.
The words I wanted to say swirled around my lips, but I swallowed them back.
More than an hour passed.
The door to the private room opened, and Jiang Wan Ning's forehead was covered in sweat. She was holding a baby in her arms, and the baby's cries echoed throughout the shop.
"It's a boy, and both mother and child are safe."
Jiang Wan Ning was very excited as it was the first time she had independently taken action to save someone.
Jiang Wan Ning casually placed the child in Pei Yan Chuan's arms. Pei Yan Chuan held the child awkwardly, looking bewildered.
He had never held such a small child before.
Just then, the prefect arrived and hurriedly bowed and stepped forward, saying, "Greetings, Your Highness, and greetings, County Princess."
"Um."
The prefect who came this time was newly appointed. When he saw the baby in Pei Yanchuan's arms, he hesitated for a long time before saying, "When did Your Highness and the County Princess have their precious son? It is truly a joyous occasion."
"Cough...cough cough..." Jiang Wan Ning choked on her saliva and coughed repeatedly.
The prefect thought he had said something wrong, so he bent his back even more.
"Just added." Pei Yanchuan said calmly.
Jiang Wan Ning turned her head slightly, her pupils slightly widened as she looked at Pei Yan Chuan, then turned back to the prefect, "Let's solve the case first."
"Yes, yes, yes," the prefect replied.
Jiang Wanning briefly recounted what had happened, pointing to the people that Mo Ran and Mo Qing were holding down.
"Those are the ringleaders; they're probably deliberately trying to cause chaos. Your Excellency, investigate them thoroughly."
"You're talking nonsense. We were just standing up for what was right, how did that make us criminals?"
"Yes, we are just trying to stand up for justice, but you officials are protecting each other."
"How dare you!" the prefect roared. "I will naturally judge right and wrong."
"Sir, since the pregnant woman is unharmed, why not invite her out to testify for us?"
"And these people all saw it. That Western Xia princess was so arrogant and domineering, and they even helped the foreigners."
"Sir, he is right. Let the pregnant woman from earlier come out and give a reply."
As Jiang Wan Ning spoke, she turned around and instructed Hai Tang and Shao Yao to help the person out.
The woman was still very weak after giving birth. Upon seeing the prefect in his official robes, she immediately knelt on the ground and said, "This humble woman greets Your Excellency."
"Who is kneeling? State your name."
"Your Honor, my surname is He, my given name is Chunhua, and I am from Chunhua Lane in the west. I am pregnant and I want to eat something spicy."
"I had often heard people say that the newly opened shops here had good food, so I went there by myself."
“Mrs. He, let me ask you,” the prefect said sternly, “was it this man who knocked you down?”
He Chunhua glanced at the standing Princess of Xixia, then immediately looked away, "Reporting...Reporting to Your Excellency."
"It's her."
“The woman was queuing up properly when she suddenly rushed out, because the woman was moving slowly and was blocking her way.”
"She then raised the whip in her hand and struck the woman's stomach hard."
"The woman was unable to dodge in time and fell, which frightened the unborn child in her womb."
"Not only that, they also helped this Princess of Xixia." Madam He pointed at Jiang Wan Ning and the others.
"You woman, it was Ningning who just saved you and your child, how dare you turn around and blame her!" Shen Ruzhi said angrily.
Ms. He kept her head down the whole time. "But if it weren't for her, I wouldn't have given birth today, and I had a difficult delivery."
"I won't let her cut my stomach open and take the baby out!"
Suddenly, He looked up and pointed at Jiang Wan Ning. Because of the large movement, she aggravated her wound and her face turned even paler from the pain.
"Yes, sir, we cannot let her go just because she is the legitimate daughter of a marquis."
"Cut open her stomach and take out the baby! My God, what kind of childbirth method is this? I've never heard of it before!"
"This is absolutely too cruel!"
"......"
"Silence!" the prefect roared. "I will judge right and wrong myself."
As she spoke, she looked at Pei Yanchuan.
"Just follow your trial procedures," Pei Yanchuan said calmly.
The prefect felt reassured, but when he looked at Jiang Wan Ning again, he didn't know how to speak.
Jiang Wanning stepped forward and said, "Sir, this woman's baby is too big and is in an abnormal position. If we don't do this, it will result in the death of both mother and child."
"And regardless of which method I use, are the mother and child safe right now?"
The prefect sent a doctor and a midwife to check on the health of Madam He and her child.
There were no abnormalities in his body.
"This is just another method of production; it is not only harmless but can also save lives."
Jiang Wan Ning turned to look at Madam He and continued, "Let me ask you, you said the princess started it, did her whip hit you?"
Do you have any wounds?
When Jiang Wan Ning delivered the baby, she did not notice any serious injuries on the baby's body.
This would prove that what the Western Xia princess said was true; the whip merely swept across the pregnant woman's front, saying, "If you want some money..."
"You can have this princess keep you company, since her whip scared you."
“If you insist on making a false accusation, the other party is a princess of Xixia. This is a matter between two countries. Once the truth is found, your crime will be serious.”
A hint of panic flashed in Madam He's eyes. "I...I'm telling the truth."
"If you don't believe me, you can ask the people here."
"Yes, we all saw it."
Jiang Wanning smiled and said, "Mr. He, some money you can earn may not necessarily be spent comfortably."
"I'll ask you again, and you've only just come out. No one told you that this young lady is the Princess of Xixia. How did you find out?"
"I...I heard it just before I went in."
"When a woman is giving birth, she is so in pain that she can't care about anything else. But you, on the other hand, can still listen to what others are saying."
As soon as Jiang Wan Ning finished speaking, the prefect slammed his gavel down hard, "Madam He, tell the truth now!"
The scene of the investigation was a temporary setup. When the prefect slammed his gavel down, the tea set on the table shook a few times.
"My lord, I'm telling the truth. Please investigate thoroughly," Madam He pleaded repeatedly.
Jiang Wan Ning continued, "If I'm not mistaken, you guys are acting under someone's orders to cause trouble with the Princess of Xixia at my hot pot restaurant."
"And the bigger the commotion, the better. If problems arise between the two countries and His Majesty blames us, neither the Prince of Langya nor I will escape responsibility."
"You're talking nonsense! What makes you say that without any evidence?"
"How do you know I don't have any evidence?" Jiang Wan Ning smiled slightly.
