Chapter 6: They finally made up.
Jiang Zheng then realized what was happening.
The two families did not inform anyone of the engagement; today was simply a brief meeting to set a date and discuss the matter.
Why were so many people brought in without anyone notifying them?
"Butler Wang, please speak."
Steward Wang quickly knelt down, "Reporting to the Marquis."
"Wang Chong was supposed to be the goalkeeper today, but he had an upset stomach this morning and went home to rest. Sun Bin took over the shift."
"Bring Sun Bin up here."
soon,
Sun Bin was brought up and scrambled to his knees, saying, "My lord, my lady."
"Did you bring the guests in without informing us today?"
Sun Bin cowered on the ground, "Yes, Your Excellency."
"Sister Chunhua said that these people have a good relationship with the Marquis's mansion, and asked me to take them directly over."
“My lord, Chunhua is from Consort Liu’s courtyard,” Steward Wang explained.
Jiang Zheng looked at Aunt Liu.
“My lord, I had no idea that Chunhua could be so bold. It is all because I failed to discipline her properly. Please forgive me, my lord.”
"So it seems that all these ladies and young women were invited by Chunhua?"
Lady Liu paused, then weakly replied, "It is I."
"I thought today was a joyous occasion, so I took it upon myself to invite them, but who knew..."
“Auntie is confused,” Jiang Wan Ning said coldly. “Now that the Empress Dowager is in mourning, even if we keep a low profile, we will inevitably be caught out.”
"You're quite something, inviting people to your home with such fanfare, and so many things have happened. Auntie is harming Father and the entire Marquis's mansion!"
Upon hearing this, Consort Liu quickly knelt down. "My lord, I was negligent for a moment. Please forgive me."
Jiang Zheng's face darkened. "Go back and reflect on your actions behind closed doors."
"Let Ningning take care of the housekeeping duties for now."
"My lord, the eldest young lady is about to be married, and this steward..."
"It was because Madam was seriously ill and Ningning was about to get married that we asked you to share Madam's burdens, but look at what you've done?"
"Once Madam recovers, she should take over the management of the household affairs."
"Are you going to keep overstepping your bounds?"
"I wouldn't dare," Aunt Liu quickly replied.
"Ru'er should also go back and reflect on her actions! Don't go out for the next few days!" Jiang Zheng said coldly.
"Yes, Father."
Jiang Wanru nodded obediently and withdrew.
"Uncle, Aunt, Zhizhi won't disturb you any longer." Shen Ruzhi stood up to take her leave, glancing at Jiang Wanning, who was standing to the side with her head down, a smile playing on her lips, seemingly trying to make something out.
"Zhizhi, you've come all this way, why don't you stay for dinner? Your auntie will make your favorite sweet and sour pork ribs."
Shen Ruzhi glanced at Jiang Wanning again, and seeing that she did not respond, said, "No need, Auntie."
"My father will worry if I go back too late."
Zhou winked at Haitang, who then poked at the soft flesh on Jiang Wan Ning's waist with her finger.
Jiang Wan Ning snapped out of her daze and stepped forward to pull Zhi Zhi along, "Sister, you've come all this way, why are you going back so soon?"
"Are you still worried about someone stealing your coffin?"
Zhizhi glared at Jiang Wanning with annoyance, "I'm afraid you'll be busy later and have to coax certain people again."
"How could that be?" Jiang Wan Ning linked arms with Zhi Zhi. "I have a lot of flowers in my room, would you like to go and take a look, sister?"
As he spoke, he pulled Zhizhi toward his own yard.
Zhou smiled as she watched the two sisters leave. The two sisters had finally made up.
"Madam can still laugh." Jiang Zheng looked worried. "How...how did things turn out like this?"
Madam Zhou glanced at Jiang Zheng and said, "The reason things have turned out this way is all because of the Marquis's philandering."
"Why am I being dragged into this again?" Jiang Zheng blushed.
Aunt Liu was a famous courtesan in the capital. She sold her art but not her body. Although her figure and appearance could not compare to Zhou's, she still attracted the attention of many people.
However, Aunt Liu remained alone and never had any rumors with any man.
But one day, Aunt Liu, six months pregnant, came to the Marquis's mansion and said that the child in her womb was the Marquis's child.
After some investigation, it was found that it was Marquis Jiang Zheng who was drinking with his colleagues, and that person invited Concubine Liu over, and that was the only time.
Whether he slept with the marquis or not, the marquis himself couldn't remember, and in the end, he could only admit it.
“Since entering the manor, Lady Liu has been gentle and virtuous, and Ru’er has always been well-behaved and sensible. This matter must have been done by that young master!”
Hearing her husband praise another woman in front of her, Zhou felt an indescribable bitterness in her heart.
"Why does Ningning insist on marrying the prince today? It's not that serious."
“Ningning has always been sensible. Isn’t it because the Marquis didn’t stop her much that he knows this?” Zhou said irritably.
"I'll go ask Ningning in a bit."
"My lord, you should go and get to know your other, well-behaved and sensible daughter better," Zhou said, getting up to leave.
"Oh dear... why are you angry?" Jiang Zheng looked at Zhou Shi's back, slumped his shoulders, and let his arms hang down in front of him.
He looked like a wronged old man, lacking any of the heroic spirit he had displayed as a general.
He didn't say anything wrong, did he?
On the other side.
Jiang Wanru returned to her courtyard, her previous obedient and sensible demeanor gone.
"Mother, have you noticed that Jiang Wan Ning is acting a little differently today?"
Aunt Liu waved her hand, and everyone withdrew.
Granny Zhang was the last to leave, and after closing the door, she stood guard at the entrance.
"I'm dressed a little differently than usual."
"That bastard looks just like her mother."
“I wasn’t talking about her clothes,” Jiang Wanru said. “I know her too well.”
"If I were to seek death today, she would beg me to marry into the royal family, and she would also be afraid that I would be wronged by being offered the position of a secondary wife."
"Perhaps this matter is different from the usual ones," Aunt Liu said. "Fortunately, you married the young master as you wished."
"What's wrong with being a concubine? The Zhou mother and daughter pride themselves on their noble status, but aren't they still manipulated by us?"
Aunt Liu said confidently, "It's just a pity that I carelessly lost my position as the head of the household today."
"Mother, you need to be more careful," Jiang Wanru said, her tone full of reproach. "Without the power to manage the household, it will be much more difficult for us to do things in the future."
“In the past, she only knew how to talk about love with the prince, and her mother was on her deathbed and had no time to care about her.”
"Who knew she would ask about such a trivial matter, that's why I didn't try to be discreet."
"However, this entire Marquis's mansion will soon be ours, so there's no rush. If you need anything in the future, you can just ask that idiot Jiang Wan Ning for it."
"Anyway, she won't refuse you."
“Mother is right.” A glint of light flashed in Jiang Wanru’s eyes. “This vast estate of the Marquis’s mansion will be ours sooner or later.”
"The position of Crown Princess can only belong to me, Jiang Wanru!"
