Chapter 119 A Sleepless Night
Pei Yan did not say whether he would listen to Jiang Shuyi or not.
He didn't know what he went out for, and left Jiang Shuyi alone on the bed, with her hands and feet tied up. She couldn't move and could only wait for him to come back.
Jiang Shuyi was still feeling a little uneasy, so she shouted for Yuzhu outside.
After shouting for a long time but no one came, she gave up, thinking that Pei Yan had driven away the people who could help her.
She fell back on the bed and continued to be in a daze.
Pei Yan couldn't have gone out to do something bad, right? According to his personality, he wouldn't do something bad without telling her, he would probably drag her along to watch it, so he must have listened to it and went out to think about it?
As Jiang Shuyi was thinking, she felt sleepy. After running around all day, she finally took a nap, but was woken up by Pei Yan again.
When Jiang Shuyi woke up again, the hall was brightly lit by candles, and it was pitch black outside the window.
She rubbed her eyes, and when she put her hand down she suddenly realized that the belt in her hand was gone.
I quickly sat up and looked at my feet. There were no shackles on them, and there was a thin quilt covering my body, so it wasn't too hot in the summer, and I wouldn't catch a cold in my dream.
Jiang Shuyi quickly got off the bed.
She first opened the window to see if anyone was dead outside, but it was pitch black outside, with only the palace lanterns emitting a faint light, so she couldn't see anything clearly.
The night breeze blowing in your face brought the unique fragrance of flowers and plants of the Qianqing Palace, without any smell of blood.
Jiang Shuyi breathed a sigh of relief, closed the window, and walked quickly to the outer hall.
Pei Yan was sitting on the Arhat couch reading a book.
It was not the classics, history, and poetry of literati, but her storybooks.
She was bored during her illness some time ago, so Pei Yan sent people out of the palace to buy many books, almost filling up an entire box, for her entertainment.
Those books were now piled on the Arhat couch. Pei Yan flipped through them one by one, reading two pages of each book, putting it aside, and then picking up the next one.
Jiang Shuyi had a bad feeling.
She trotted forward quickly, threw the book he was reading aside, then sat on his lap, hugged his neck, and asked with bright eyes: "Your Majesty, Your Majesty, are you not going to tie me up?"
Pei Yan, who was looking for a book, had no choice but to look at her.
After a long silence, Pei Yan kneaded Jiang Shuyi's wrist and said calmly, "I have sent people to investigate. We will soon know whether Gu Hanqing is lying or not. If he is not your cousin, then he is deliberately deceiving and has evil intentions. I will kill him then, and you don't have to feel guilty."
Jiang Shuyi thought there was no need to check. People always say that nephews look like their uncles, but Gu Hanqing looks like his aunt. When he makes certain expressions, his eyebrows and eyes are quite similar to his aunt's.
"If it is true, after your uncle has paid tribute to your mother, I will reward him with 5,000 taels of silver and let him return to his hometown. He will not be allowed to enter the capital in the future."
Jiang Shuyi tilted her head in confusion: "Why are you really going to chase me away?"
Pei Yan lowered his eyes and looked at her: "Today I should have had a good time with you and made you happy, but because of him, we had a quarrel and I almost..."
They almost did something that was irreversible, causing them to become estranged from each other because of irrelevant people.
He didn't say these words, but just straightened his lips.
Jiang Shuyi sensed that he seemed to be getting upset again, so she quickly hugged his waist and coaxed him anxiously: "Your Majesty, don't be sad, it's all my fault! I shouldn't have deliberately made Your Majesty angry, I will never do that again, let that useless cousin go to the horizon, I never want to see him again!"
When Pei Yan heard her say this about Gu Hanqing, his expression softened a lot.
When he thought Jiang Shuyi had hugged him enough, he lowered his head and said, "Let go. I have something for you."
Jiang Shuyi immediately let go of her hand and looked at him intently.
"Why are you staring at me? It's not on me." Pei Yan raised his hand and pointed at the small box on the low table not far away, and said in a gentle tone: "Go get it yourself."
The box was an object from the palace. When it was opened, a small red lucky bag was revealed inside. The embroidery and stitching were rather rough, and it was obviously a worthless item from outside the palace.
Just give her this?
Jiang Shuyi held the small torn lucky bag and looked at Pei Yan with confusion and grievance.
Pei Yan looked at her disgusted expression and his face suddenly turned bad again: "In Yanqing Temple, you had to worship your biological mother alone and asked me to ask for a peace amulet for you. But it's normal that you don't remember it. It was just an excuse to fool me. When you met your cousin, you forgot about the amulet."
After hearing this, Jiang Shuyi's eyes immediately turned into one full of cherishment and love when she looked at the lucky bag.
"Oh, it was your majesty who asked for it. No wonder. Although this lucky bag looks ordinary, if you look closely, it feels different and connected to my heart. It turns out that it is because of your majesty's thoughts in it."
Pei Yan knew that she was being pretentious, but he still couldn't help but feel a little happy.
“Don’t be glib.”
After he finished teaching, he remembered something and asked in confusion, "Where is the book you said about the young scholar who died early? I have searched through all your books, but I still can't find it."
Jiang Shuyi: ...
If you can find it, you'll be damned!
She blinked and said indifferently, "Maybe, probably, I don't know where I put it. Your Majesty knows that I always throw things away. I have read the book for a long time and I don't know where it was thrown. Maybe it was accidentally soiled and thrown away by the palace servants."
Pei Yan looked at her steadily.
Jiang Shuyi felt guilty for a moment, then looked at him confidently: "Your Majesty, why do you look at me like this?
"You told me before that this was the book you were reading recently."
Pei Yan looked at Jiang Shuyi in bewilderment, as if trying to recall whether he had ever made up such a thing before. He immediately sneered, "Jiang Shuyi, you are so capable."
Jiang Shuyi swallowed and pretended not to understand: "What ability? I may have said it wrong. I have indeed read the book a long time ago. Your Majesty, don't you believe me? Hey! Why did your Majesty come here? His face is so fierce, so scary..."
Only when Pei Yan carried her sideways into the inner hall, put her on the bed, and kissed her fiercely did she stop chattering.
*
Under torture, Jiang Shuyi finally confessed everything.
In the end, her voice became hoarse from crying, and she felt better after being fed warm water. She fell asleep with tears in her eyes, but she still held the interrogator's hand.
Pei Yan lowered his eyes to look at the wet and red corners of her eyes, and rubbed her rosy cheeks. After making sure that she was asleep, he gently pulled his hand away.
Then he lay down and held Jiang Shuyi in his arms. He did not extinguish the candles in the room, but only touched her forehead from time to time to see her face.
Fortunately, I didn’t have a fever that night.
When the sky was just getting light, Pei Yan touched her forehead one last time before he was completely relieved. He called Yuzhu Fangchu in to serve him, and he changed his clothes to attend the morning court.
Jiang Shuyi woke up the next day full of energy.
Because she had finally had a full meal, she was extremely fond of Pei Yan and was so clingy to him that he almost couldn't approve the memorials. However, Pei Yan was completely different from her. He was rarely sleepy during the day and even put aside his government affairs to take a rest.
