Pei Zhao's hoarse, desperate roar was instantly swallowed up by the curses.
Snap—
Mingyao felt a sharp pain in her head, and a sticky liquid slid down her hair, accompanied by a foul, fishy smell.
The smell of rotten eggs hit me right in the head, and my stomach started churning violently.
"Sister Su, hide behind me!"
Pei Zhao tried his best to protect Ming Yao, but his strength was too weak and he was no match for this group of lunatics.
Rotten eggs came one after another, and Mingyao's face and body were covered in egg yolk.
"Go to hell!"
Amidst the noise, those three words sounded particularly jarring.
A woman wearing a baseball cap and a black windbreaker rushed out from the crowd.
A bloodthirsty killing intent flashed in the eyes beneath the brim of the hat. Mingyao gasped and shoved Pei Zhao, who was only a fist's distance away from her.
The rotten egg was thrown again, hitting Mingyao directly in the eye.
A nauseating stench assaulted Mingyao, making her suffocate.
Black, foul-smelling egg yolk dripped from her eyes, smearing Mingyao's face, and she temporarily lost her sight.
Just as the woman was about to stab fiercely, Mingyao suddenly felt her body tighten.
The crisp scent of mint lingered around her nose, and Mingyao steadied herself, her heart skipping a beat.
"Blood!"
Someone shouted, and the crowd scattered like ants on a hot plate.
Pei Zhao turned around and saw a woman standing beside Pei Siyu, a dagger in her hand piercing Pei Siyu's lower back.
Blood gushed out, and Pei Siyu stared at the woman with bloodshot eyes.
The man's murderous gaze made the woman's hand tremble, and her face turned ashen.
She staggered back two steps, and before she could react and run away, Pei Siyu kicked her in the stomach.
The woman fell to the ground, looking utterly disheveled.
Pei Zhao regained his composure after a brief moment of distraction and quickly organized the security guards to arrest the woman.
"Don't be afraid, it's all over now."
The man was breathing heavily, his hot breath brushing past Mingyao's neck.
He hugged the person in his arms even tighter, afraid that if he wasn't careful, she would disappear.
Dozens of bodyguards rushed over and, within just two minutes, brought the chaotic situation under control and apprehended the ringleader.
Mingyao hugged him tightly, but her hand accidentally touched a wet and sticky liquid.
She jerked her hand back as if she'd been electrocuted, and upon seeing the scarlet mark on her palm, Mingyao asked in a trembling voice, "You're injured."
"I'm fine."
"I'll take you to the hospital."
He stared intently at Mingyao, his usually icy face now filled with worry and panic.
"Pei Siyu, I'm not hurt! You..."
Before she could finish speaking, her body was lifted into the air.
The sudden loss of weight caused Mingyao to grab Pei Siyu's neck in a panic.
Princess Pei Siyu, carrying Mingyao, strode into the car that had been hastily pulled over to the side of the road, amidst various stares.
Mingyao grabbed the car door and said in a panic, "I'm not getting in the car, I smell too bad."
She stared at Pei Siyu, her tone becoming even more urgent: "You're injured, you need to go to the hospital quickly."
She pressed against Pei Siyu's chest, twisting her body twice, trying to break free from his grasp.
Pei Siyu's eyes turned dangerous, and he said coldly in a commanding tone, "Don't be ridiculous!"
Mingyao was so frightened that her heart jumped into her throat, and she stared wide-eyed at Pei Siyu.
She dared not move, for fear of angering him again.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Pei Siyu insisted on carrying Mingyao for a check-up.
"Pei Siyu, have you gone mad?"
Mingyao twisted her face, finally unable to contain herself any longer, and roared, "What kind of time is this, and you're still holding me!"
You're injured too!
She kept patting Pei Siyu's chest, tears streaming down her face: "Put me down first, I'm really okay."
Pei Siyu was injured, so she didn't dare to pat him too hard.
Pei Siyu ignored her cries and carried Mingyao straight to the examination room.
"Quick! Examine her!"
His shout made the doctors tremble with fear, and they hurriedly examined Mingyao.
"Mr. Pei, Miss Su is alright, but..."
The doctor looked at Pei Siyu's lower back with concern.
The blood-stained black suit looked like it had been soaked in water, a dark, somber mess.
Pei Siyu's face was clouded with gloom, and his eyes were bloodshot as he stared at the doctor: "Do as I say!"
Meeting Pei Siyu's fierce, almost murderous gaze, the doctor shuddered and nervously led Mingyao for a full-body examination.
After the test report was delivered to Pei Siyu and it was confirmed that there were no problems with any of the indicators, his tense face relaxed a little.
"Pei Siyu, you're insane!"
Mingyao glared at Pei Siyu with tears in her eyes and uncontrollable rage.
Even though his injuries were more serious, he made the doctor take her for a check-up first.
Mingyao had no room to resist and was only freed after all the examinations were completed.
She clenched her fist and punched Pei Siyu's chest with a mixture of anger and heartache, "Don't you want to live?!"
Pei Siyu grabbed her wrist, and the icy touch in his palm made Mingyao panic.
She looked up and met Pei Siyu's narrow eyes.
Pei Siyu, whose eyes always held a chilling, captivating edge; Pei Siyu, the cold-faced devil whom everyone in Haidu both praised and feared; Pei Siyu, whose methods were always swift and decisive, never revealing his emotions—at this moment, his eyes held endless tenderness.
He cupped Mingyao's face in his hands, their foreheads touching, and gave a soft "hmm."
"I'm glad you're alright."
