The old lady, with a broad smile, took her hand and looked her over from left to right.
Mingyao grinned, inexplicably feeling that the old lady was the same kind of person as herself.
She sincerely apologized: "I'm so sorry."
"I shouldn't have believed the rumors online."
"I almost misunderstood such a good girl as you."
The old lady pulled Mingyao aside and chatted enthusiastically for a long time, treating her like family at all.
Pei Siyu's tense expression gradually eased, and the old lady urged him to go and rest, as she wanted to keep Mingyao to continue chatting.
After Meng Zhenzhen was taken away by the doctor for a check-up, only the old lady and Mingyao remained in the large ward.
The old lady's expression changed as quickly as turning the pages of a book; after the last nurse left the ward, her face visibly darkened.
She stared intently at Mingyao, her eyes filled with accusation.
"Xiao Su".
You'd better tell me the truth.
The old woman spoke coldly, her eyes flashing with a dangerous light.
Mingyao's heart skipped a beat, and she smiled, pursing her lips.
"Grandma, what are you saying?"
The old woman released her hand, her face expressionless.
"Xiao Su, you're a smart person, you must know what I mean."
Mingyao looked into the old lady's eyes and curled her hands. She understood why the old lady said that.
Judging from the old lady's behavior, she is similar to her.
The difference is that the old lady was genuine, while she was acting.
Mingyao didn't know how to explain to the old lady, and said with a troubled expression, "I have my reasons."
"Can't you tell me?"
Mingyao shook her head: "Sorry, I can't."
The old lady didn't press for details or threaten him. "I don't care what your purpose is in putting on an act in front of him."
"As long as you don't hurt him, I can help you keep it a secret."
Mingyao secretly breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank you, Mother-in-law."
The old woman said coldly, "No need to thank me in such a hurry."
"I did this for his own good."
She glanced at Mingyao and said coldly, "I've already made myself clear to you."
"If you ever insist on doing something to hurt him, I will stop at nothing to separate you from him!"
This is the old lady's attitude.
Mingyao can understand.
The old lady was even more protective of her children than Meng Zhenzhen described.
Mingyao nodded, reassuring the old lady.
“My purpose was not pure, but I never intended to hurt him.”
She paused, then tentatively asked, "Mother-in-law, can you tell me what he's been through?"
Mingyao was very curious about Pei Siyu's past.
Whether in her past life or this one, aside from what she has seen and experienced, she knows nothing about Pei Siyu's past.
She didn't want to be just a confidante or a companion.
Seeing Mingyao's sincere expression, the old lady hesitated to speak.
She smiled bitterly: "That child had a very hard life before."
"As for what he has been through in the past, you will have to find out for yourself."
When Pei Siyu was mentioned, the old lady's face softened.
"He hates it when people ask him about his past."
"If you really get to know him, he might open up to you."
Mingyao nodded, and the old lady reminded her, "Once he explains the past to you, he will show you his most vulnerable side."
"The most vicious way to attack someone is to attack their weak point."
"Su Xueya, I don't want to see him scarred again one day."
This is the old lady's bottom line.
The sound of Meng Zhenzhen's sobs came from outside the door, and the coldness on the old lady's face instantly melted away, replaced by a bright smile.
Meng Zhenzhen pushed open the door with tears streaming down her face, sobbing, "Grandma, it hurts so much."
The old lady quickly hugged Meng Zhenzhen and patted her back gently as if she were coaxing a child.
"Don't cry, don't cry. It's already amazing that the examination has been completed."
"What else would you like to eat? Grandma will go buy it for you."
While the old lady was comforting Meng Zhenzhen, Mingyao tactfully left the ward.
She saw a familiar figure in the hospital corridor.
At first, Mingyao thought she was seeing things, but when she got closer, she realized it was Jiang Rongrong.
"Miss Jiang, are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
Jiang Rongrong turned around abruptly, her cheeks flushed with two particularly striking red blushes.
She said awkwardly, "I feel uncomfortable."
Jiang Rongrong limped forward, and only then did Mingyao notice her swollen ankle.
"Let me help you."
Just as Mingyao was about to make a move, Jiang Rongrong quickly stepped back.
"No, no, you don't need to help me."
Mingyao withdrew her hand, which had been hanging in the air, and asked with some surprise, "But the department that treats sprains isn't here."
Jiang Rongrong's eyes darted around, and she stammered for a long time without being able to give a coherent answer.
"You wouldn't be..." She hesitated, her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked at Jiang Rongrong with suspicion in them.
"I...I went the wrong way!"
Jiang Rongrong said awkwardly.
Mingyao gave a thoughtful "oh," feeling that the atmosphere today was quite strange.
She not only twisted her ankle, but she was also wearing high heels, making her walk very difficult and awkward.
Mingyao wanted to step forward to help, but she was pushed away.
"It's just a sprain, isn't it?"
"What's this?"
Jiang Rongrong chuckled lightly: "It's just a minor injury, nothing to worry about."
While worrying about Jiang Rongrong, Mingyao kept an eye on the road ahead.
Upon seeing Wang Zhouheng, Mingyao greeted him with a smile: "Zhouheng!"
Jiang Rongrong, who was standing next to him, froze. When she saw Wang Zhouheng walking over, she was visibly flustered.
Panic can easily lead to mistakes, and Jiang Rongrong lost her balance and began to fall forward.
